Curve Hurdling with Tevin Colson

  • Yesterday we took last week’s workout to the curve. We did 2 sets of 4 reps over five hurdles on the curve, 8-stepping to the first hurdles and 7-stepping between all the rest. We finished with two speed reps over the first two hurdles of the 400h race, taking 22 strides to the first hurdle and 15 to the second.

    Hey coach. When should you place the hurdles on the curve when they are beginning long hurdles

      Pretty early actually. Learning to negotiate the angles of the curve is a critical skill in the long hurdles. So once they have a solid foundation in technique, it’s okay to start incorporating specific curve-related workouts.

    Is that about 50 feet between hurdles and 75 yards start to finish?

      It’s 54 feet to the first hurdle, 51 feet between the rest, and the run-in off the last hurdle is about 15 yards. So it’s about 100 meters total. I didn’t mark off the finish line exactly this time.
