Who else loves the 16-35??? Whats your absolute fav lens?
Matti Haapoja canon 16-35🤙🏻
Prime 35mm 1.8😂
I had the sigma 18-35 and loved it, but went to full frame.
I need to replace it with the 16-35 soon 🙏🏼
16-35 is great! My favourite is 35mm prime though, gets everything done for me, from portrait to landscape, it's a stunning focal length!
I have the canon 24 1.4 L now and it’s great, but miss the zoom so much from the sigma
I've got the 16-35 f4 on the EOS R and I got that for the built in IS and it's a great combo. Do you struggle with the 2.8 on the R without lens IS when you're walking around/think the extra stop is worth it?
I tore my ACL and MCL after legit my first 5 seconds on a one wheel. After I saw you trip my knee hurt for you. Love the vids! Thanks for sharing!
Did anyone else see the shot at 2:09 without it's color grade?! 😲
Lane McCall yes and i was just Searching for anyone commenting on this! 😂
@@samuelneubourg8584 It happens from time to time, I just wanted to point out the naked video clip haha.
Samuel Neubourg I said the same thing!
Lane McCall so I’m guessing they all shot in raw, then color grade after? Or already have a LUT?
@@raulgolfs Well, not raw, but CLOG. Raw video files are MASSIVE. Like, 15 minutes = 128GB massive. Sometimes even more. CLOG is similar, but still compressed. Just flatter, to allow for better flexibility in post.
I love my 18-35 1.8 but I have a sony and with the M-11 adapter the autofocus makes the audio useless. GGGRR
do they make a different adapter that would work better for your application?
Love it! Was just looking online to get a new lens, perfect timing.
Another amazing video Matti! Many thanks
🙌🏻
I think I can live the rest of my life with my 16-35mm, 50mm and 70-200mm lenses.
Hah pretty much right??
Casteliero only lens I’d add to that is 24-70 to cover the gaps but you’re right.
@@wiskybiz caps between 35-50 and 50-70 are kind of irrelevant. You can use analog zoom and take couple steps closer or farther with your feet :)
@@mattih Well, maybe throw 1.4x extender there in the mix as well. And lately I've been craving Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 lens, but it's freaking heavy.
Yeah for sure, thats my dream setup with the 50mm 1.2, for now I only have my 35mm 1.4
You made the point about primes and how you are forced to move to capture the shot you desire, and I have to back that statement 100%. I personally use the Rokinon 35mm 1.5 and I love it. Allows me to really stretch for creativity and I've found that I get more interesting shots that way. BUT, they both do have their perks and we use both. It is a preference game for sure. Great video!
Downloaded this video so I can watch it again when the need arises. I learn a lot from you Matti. Thanks for being you.
I just purchased my first zoom actually and I'm quite excited to use it
Hahaha here i am looking for tips and i see your comment. Love your content Collin !
Great choice!
I have a 14mm f/2.8, 18-135 and 70-200 ... Thinking about upgrading the 18-135 to a Tamron 24-70 2.8 G2 for the extra light and IS. Anybody have that lens? What's it like compared to other Canon lenses?
I swear you post the most convenient videos... I'm upgrading to a new body and I've been trying to figure out what kinda lens I'm gonna purchase next and it was between a 28-75 and a fixed 85 and these 2 videos you recently posted helped me out so much haha killin it
Perfect man!
Got the time? Use a prime!
Gotta zoom? Use a... yeah
Haha 😆
BROOM!!
Can't use too soon..😆😜
Hahaha made me think for a bit lol feels like broom is the only thing that rhymes with zoom 😂 vroom?
@@JesusMartinezCreates What about bloom? your pictures bloom... or like i said, can't use to soon... You'll be doomed... escape the gloom... etc...😉😜
Music towards the beginning sounded like funkytown. Now that’s stuck in my head.
This is great advice matti! We tend to spend so much time and attention on cameras but lenses can have more of an impact on your filming and photography than we give it credit for.
In my dream world the perfect CZcams lens of 16-55or70 2.8 would exist
Thanks Matti. This was very helpful. Am just starting out in this field and I am pretty sure your tips will get me a long way. Thanks again. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Matti!! I love this new way of vlogtorials you created!
The 16-35 f4 is my go to (it’s cheaper and has IS, I like it a lot).
Is the sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 a cheap alternative for the 16-35mm? Is there any major differences?
16-35, everytime!! It's the lens I always reach for, the first in the bag (when it's not living life on the camera). We use the F/4 with IS, but only because of the IS. I would much prefer having the f/2.8 for more options. love the video Matti :)
Yea I’d rather have 2.8 but IS and 2.8 would be incredible
@@mattih Wouldn't it just!! We actually made a video about the F/4 IS only last week, if you're up for it -> czcams.com/video/WMfznxGY1MI/video.html or is that too much of a shameless plug!?!
It exists look at the tamron 15-30 it’s 2.8 and has image stabilization. It produces sharper images too especially in the corners.
Matti Haapoja I’m trying to decide between the f4 and 2.8 myself. Could you share your reasons for prioritizing an extra stop of light over IS please?
Great thank you for sharing your lens experience matti!
😂😂😂 totally missed the chair at 5:13 - I literally went back to see if you landed the jacket on the chair. Thanks Matti for this VID! Totally changed my perspectives on the wide lenses.
Since I had my Xt-3, I have been living off the kit lens and have been satisfied since I shoot 90% video. But sometimes I need more reach or zoom for some broll shots. I was thinking about the usual 50-135 2.8 lens, but it's just too dang long. Then I saw a 90mm f.2. I have never used a prime that's that long for video. Do you think it would be a nice compromise on a telephoto, it terms of a manageable size?
Hey Matti i only have the 24 - 105 f4 L so would you say that is a good substitute for the 16 - 35?
You're absolutely right about sniping with a zoom lens. I came back from a trip where I decided to use a super zoom (I'm an amateur with an APS-C camera) to not switch lenses and carry less gear. But I found that when I came back and reviewed all my pics, I zoomed in too much, very little interest in the angles I chose. So I sold it and put a 35mm in my bag and a 17-50. Had much more interesting pictures after that switch.
What lens would you suggest for a vlogging focal length for a crop sensor? 18 would be the FOV of a 28 which isn't that wide.
9:11 which one you recommend for starting? i'm confuse what you are trying to articulate because all the way is zoom then recommend prime!!!
Matti would a 16-35 F4 lens be good enough? Especially for AF?
My Sigma 18-35 is almost always on my camera. Wish it was lighter though haha
I just wish it fit full frame.
I'm sure I'll feel the same way whenever I graduate to FF
Dude, those sigma art lenses are killing me. The 24-70 is a tank
What's sigma?
@@HenryJuliao haha only rocking the one right now. I still slowly paying myself for the money I borrowed to get it haha
Very usefull comparison ,thanks matti
Thank you very much! I'm gonna buy a Sony A6400 and I just wonder the kit 16-50 f3.5 is good enough? After watching your video, I think I should invest more for a F2.8 or F1.8 one.
Hi, I use Canon EOS R, for long distance hiking, if I just wanna bring one len, which one will u suggest? Many thanks ~
Yeah I have an 18-55 lens with image stabilisation and it’s amazing, the 50mm 1.8 is beautiful too but I hate switching lenses
Great coverage on zoom cameras! Amazing tips and knowledge. Thanks
Have you tried using the sigma on the 1dx shooting in 4k? No vignetting cuz of the crop factor. I've got that sigma 18-35 on my Panasonic G7 with a speedbooster. Looks so good.
In my experience, zooms do NOT work on steadycams/gimbals because every time you zoom in or out, it changes the weight distribution of the rig, yes?
Use a lock?
Matti! I'm planning on getting this lens! Quick question, do you think the version III worth the money over the version II? I don't know what to do!
I love the depth of field, low light ability and sharpness of prime lenses
does anyone know? compared to the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens is the difference only in apaeture? how about image quality as the price difference is not much id like to know which one would be better for landscapes and such.
Please help. I film on the same canon 16-35 on my 5dmk4 with a rode video mic pro but I can sometimes hear the autofocus on the recording. How do you get over this ?
Also I am nervous about buying my first lens since the 50mm. I am on a crop sensor but I never know which direction I might go...is it really worth it to buy a lens solely for crop sensor?
Love the video! Thanks for the opinion. I have a question, I want to buy a SIGMA 18-35 / f 1.4 because my camera has crop sensor, but all the reviews I see about What Lens to buy recomend lenses in 2.8. I would like opinion and advice about if is good in 1.8 or if it would be better in 2.8, Thanks!
I’m shooting my first short film today for film riots 1 minute competition and I’m so nervous. All I have is the 18-55 kit lens and a nifty fifty. I wanted to solely use the 50 but the room I’m shooting in is too small and I can only use it for a few shots, it’s also a low light situation. Wish me luck! Any advice is welcome =D
Good luck!
Matti Haapoja thank you Matthew 🙏🏻
Good luck!
Lights lights and more lights. Grap a couple LED work lights and bounce them off the ceiling to raise your esposure and lower your ISO. I film almost every video on my channel with a kit lens and most people can't believe that I use a cheap f3.5-6.3 kit lens.
You got this man, I shot mine all on a 16-35mm, just make sure you got lights and diffusion!
Hi Matti, what do you think of the Canon 18-135? Thanks! 🍀
Really well said Matti. I tend to film mostly on a 24-120 equivalent... great I.S., range, and lots of compression / bokeh on tight details shots at 120mm (that look like prime shots), so I totally agree... when you need to get a lot out of a short amount of time, grab the zoom 👍
Am using an a6400 i tried shooting video with my 50mm prime but the autofocus isnt wrking well do u have any remedies ?
Matti's content is just getting better and better! I love it :)
Another great video Matti. I use the 10-24 on crop so similar to 16-35. Just wondered what settings you use regarding focus (points v area ), iso and shutter speed to get your looks in footage. 👌👌🤚
Amazing! Extremely clear, no faff and covered all bases!
Good content man... Great videos
This was a very informative video!!Thanks man. Learnt a lot about primes and zooms.
Dope channel Matti. What do you think about the efs 17-55 on the EOS R with the adapter? Any loss of IQ due to the cut in megapixels (30 to about 11)?
How do you like the Tri-8 I see hanging out in the background? Is it the bi-color or the daylight version? Been looking around for nice led panels but have been leaning towards the litepanels astra
so if I were to compare the canon 10-22 which would be the equivalent 16-36 full frame. against the canon 10-18 and/or the Sigma 18-35. Which lens makes more sense for landscape. Money not being an issue. I use a canon t7i.
Just got a 11-16mm 2.8, was using the 10-18 5.6(SL2 DSLR). The biggest learning curve now is now stepping out of the Depth of Field... Any suggestions?? Great video, have a great day, take it easy...
So of the two lenses what would be the better fit for my Canon 90D, the Canon or the Sigma. Being told the 90D doesn’t play well with some older Canon lenses or specific non Canon lenses. I specifically shoot landscape photos, lots of waterfall images here in the PNW.
Great video...and I couldn't live without my 17-55. It rarely leaves my C100. Crazy sharp and great in low light.
Matti i really like how you color grade your vlogs and cinematic shot..
Thanks!!
Love your work a lot matti...... two thumbs up to your effort..... wana learn a lot..... specifically i want to know how to create a fast video and istantly it becames slow at particular points.
Thanks dude 🙏🏻
Please please tell me which is the best for Canon 77D? Need it for makeup tutorials on you tube but everyone says the autofocus on the sigma 18-35 is not good....????
Hi Matt ! Which lens would you recommend Sigma 18-35 1.8 or Canon 24-70 f2.8 for video work ?
Love the loud 80s music transitioning into the quiet voiceover. Really great 😆
Love the opening scene with the edit to the beat of the music! Wondering if you could explain how to do that in a future video? I have been struggling using Final Cut and have not found a way and Google didn’t help. Thanks and keep up the great work, love your YT channel! As far as zooms and primes go - I like to use them both a lot! It depends on my mood and photographic purpose as to which I’ll choose to use!
@Matti Haapoja, how did you take the shot at 0:26 mins? Someone held the camera for you or you left it somewhere?
How long your camera battery last during winter?? Is it true battery are easily drain when its cold..
Yep does die faster
I’m using a 24-105mm f4 g lens .. looking for another zoom lens with a great aperture range. Any help?
I have a problem. I'm using Sony a6000 and i'd like to buy this Sigma 18-35 but it says that it's on A mount. And sony a6000 has sony e mount. But on the other hand it says that it fits the cropped sensor. The question is: will it fit or will it not?
hello ; question on a black majic pocket 4k with speed booster what the best long range lens; the longest;
I like this idea for on the fly work. I'm glad you discussed the prime and the different looks you get with different lenses. For filmmaking using the lens that gets the look and message across is important, and yes it does take time. Love your show! you are very through and know your stuff, and be careful on that rolling device!
I'm a Sony APS-C user. The 18-105 f4 as a zoom for everyday usage is a good choice. The 35 or 50 f1.8 for low light is a great supplement.
Letting go of making every shot look perfect when Matti does make every shot look perfect. :)
I am using on my canon m 50 it,s kit lense 15-45mm and i freaking love it.
what camera / stabiliser is he vlogging with? Does anyone know? Thank you
What lens would u guys recommend for a trip to Hong Kong a walk around lens for a Nikon crop sensor camera?
Recommendations please?
Matti, I really like the direction your taking right now. Your video are more fresh, lively. The vlog style fits you really well. I hope you will continue in that path. CheerS.
I was a nikon user but I want to swap beacause of Canons filming capabilities. Is this a good choice? This is what i will get if I go Canon: Canon 77D with Canon 50mm 1.8 + Tamron 70-300mm. Any suggestions camera suggestions...?
The only issue I got with the 16-35 is the extreme loud auto focus. Some times when I shoot video I need the auto, but that can easily ruin the shoot. I got the mkII. Do you guys always shoot in manual focus?
Nice video by the way 👍
matti, wait, so at the end you were saying we should not get the sigma 18-35mm and save up for the canon 16-35mm? Is there much of a difference besides the mounts?
Yeah the 18-35 is for cropped sensor, so it's actually an 18-35 x 1,6 (much tighter shots)
Keep up the good work you're killing it
Thanks dude!
Actually got a 28-75mm Tamron 2.8 the other day. And I really love it, I could get a really nice wide shoot then go in for a narrow shot. I shoot film also
i got 24-70mm f2.8 sigma
Would you recommend the 24-70mm for landscape photos and hiking photos
Hi Matti, i really enjoy your channel, i'm a digital marketing manager and i'm starting my new adventure as being a vlogger (photographer, video maker) I still need to figure it out what material i need for beginning and for this comment specifically i would like to know: In which f.l you film your self?? Your vlogs? actual 16mm or 24mm ?? Please help .. Thank you
Awesome stuff, enjoying all the video’s 👍🏽 and content is on point....new to the photo world and enjoying it and opted for the Fuji XT3 😱🤔 sorry Cannon “can I still wathch”?? 😜
Absolutely love this video. I find that the zoom lens allows me to be more creative. I don’t have to worry about carrying multiple lenses when climbing a tree to get the best angle for a seen.💯🔥👍🏾 you are definitely a legend!!!
😊 🙌🏻
Where can I get this super retro music from the intro? Haha reminds me of the firs workout videos with colorful attire haha great video man! Ive been shooting with a sigma 17-50 for the longest and it definitely gets the job done 👍🏼
How does he get stable handheld footage with the non-IS 16-35 1DX2 combo? Surely it’s not all down to just post
im looking at getting the Sigma 18-35 1.8 or the Canon 16-35 2.8 for my 80D, I shoot mostly music videos. Anyone have experience with both?
I just bought the sigma 18-35 and it's awesome! You said that it's only for crop sensor cameras, but I noticed that you pulled it off of what looks like a cinema camera. Can it work on cinema cameras like the C300?
We bearly have 8 hour days in Norway, this time of year that is.
Thoughts on the EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens????
I've been around photography for a few years now & am finally buying my own camera.
Thinking into purchasing the Canon - EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera.
Since the lens comes as a kit hoping to get some quality shots & some versatility with the range.
Thanks so much for the superb content!!!
You say 95 percent, but what about really good b-roll? Do you use that for broll as well or a different lens like the 70-200?
Hi. I'll be having my first big gig. Its a big stage with magicians as performer. I only have my 24-70mm and 50mm. Should i rent 70-200 or 135mm or should I overcome anxiety with large crowd 😂. Thanks!
Thanks for the info!
I was debating on getting the sigma 18-35 for some time now. After seeing this and how much you love it, it's a done deal!
I am new here ,been watching many of your video and i can say Matti, You are doing a real good job doing everything ! . amazing production quality, camera, editing, sound, content. I find it very interesting and fun to watch !. Do you really do it all alone ? I just want to watch all you have here. Learning a lot.
You and Peter you are my inspiration I owned lot's of knowledge from you thank you for that
😊
4:23 Awesome footage Matti!! Like those genuine reactions! Rare footage man😉
This was lovely Matti.. 👌🏾
Question...if it takes me 1 year to afford a 70-200 f4, I should work harder and earn extra money so that it doesn't take me almost 1 year to by the 70-200 f2.8 version. Seems like I should buy what I can afford and earn what I can with it, then sell it then upgrade when I can.
