    I always love the curly hair features. Great silk press

  • @ellie5373
    @ellie5373 Před rokem +56

    Learning to do DIY silk press was a game changer for my hair. Growth, length retention, less tangles and breakage, and because I can run a comb through my hair (versus never being able to all week with a naturally curly style or braids), the sebum from my scalp can get better distributed to my strands and naturally lubricate my hair (as opposed to using all those build-up causing products). Yes, your body produces the best natural hair protectant on earth!
    People will argue that heat styling will cause severe damage and it's because they (a) go to hair salons where the stylist uses maximum heat + multiple unneeded passes to achieve the sleekest look or (b) they are doing their press wrong and using the wrong products/tools. Been pressing my hair for almost 10 years VERY regularly and my hair always reverts completely. You should never retouch with the flat iron during the week even if it gets puffy, just style around it. Serums and light leave-ins are your friend, so avoid putting heavy oils and creams in your hair before a press. A good blow dryer is also key. I don't use those lava hot round brushes or cheap, junky blow dryers that do mechanical damage. I use the dyson with the comb attachment meant for kinky, curly hair. The revair is also good, but doesn't get the roots straight enough imo. A good blow dry will only need 1 pass with the iron (I keep mine at 350 and it's pin straight). My hair stays straight all week even with 5 days a week at the gym (use headbands and silk scrunchies to tie it up!). I use Amika dry shampoo towards the end of the week but very conservatively. Clarify your hair once a month to remove build up from silicons and serums. Deep condition your hair weekly. Your hair will grow if you follow these tips.

      @strawberrie1 Před rokem +1

      You're absolutely correct! I do the same with my hair and I am able to maintain healthier hair. I also agree that I get better results using the dyson rather than the revair. I do like the revair but I wouldn't have purchased it if I knew what I know now.

      Thanks so much for the detailed description of your process! I haven’t straightened my natural hair in over 7 years (just twist-outs & braid-outs). However, w your instructions, I feel I might be able to wear a straight style every once in a while - just to change things up. Appreciate you taking the time to school us on how it’s done!

    • @helenaBeau
      @helenaBeau Před rokem +2

      I have a lot of thin stranded pin straight hair and if I let it air dry it’s prone to breakage really easily. I think it has to do with the amount of time your hair stays wet. I just think of it as a sponge, and sponges need to be wrung out to last longer. What’s worked best for me is to let it air dry 75% then blow dry. Every person is different though

      @toribanks Před rokem +5

      Thank you so much for your feedback! love big body curls as well, although it was discussed in the initial consultation with Nicole(which was not fully recorded) that she wanted her finished look to have minimal volume and loose curls. As a hair health professional, I wouldn't recommend using Marcel irons on just any hair type. To completely avoid the possibility of heat damaging the hair, it is best to use thermal tools that have specific technology to protect the hair. In this video, the white tool I am using to curl is the GHD platinum+ hair straightener, which protects the integrity of your hair, allowing the hair to be stronger and shinier than irons without similar technology. Also, I educated Nicole on ways to upkeep the loose curl without the use of heat. With proper aftercare, the goal is for any type of curl to be long lasting😊

    I've always wanted to ask - is it safe for hairstylists to have such long nails? Isn't it dangerous to the client and themselves? Scratches, bleach, water damage to the nail adhesive?

    • @nhiyabluspeaks
      @nhiyabluspeaks Před 8 měsíci

      This is a great question. As a hairstylist, a lot of us may use our pinkies to part and a clean sharp nail makes it easier. Some guests like the sensation on their scalps & keeps the hands clean/presentable while constant water weakens the nails… they add strength to move through the hair, BUT! There’s nothing like the grip of braiding with no nails 💜

      I think this hair's texture properties implie that you don't wash it every day, even when straighten. It would destroy the fiber very quickly. You could go for a week or two I guess (based on @DeeperThanHairTv videos)

    • @82nonnie
      @82nonnie Před rokem +14

      Soon as you wash it it goes back to natural and curly. She can keep it straight for a week or however long til next wash day. Just putting it in a bun to sleep at night or “wrapping it” another technique for sleeping. Silk head scarf on top to keep it frizz free. I usually do this to see how long my hair is like once a year . Lol but definitely can do it every week and still have healthy hair
