Converting an Xbox 360 Slim from RGH2 to RGH3

- I've had an Xbox 360 Slim Trinity console running the original RGH 2.0 implementation being used as my guinea pig console for years at this point. It was running pretty well with a CoolRunner Rev C, however the inconsistent glitch times I was getting with it were starting to annoy me after so many RGH 3.0 installations. As many people have asked me how to convert their already modified Xbox 360 Slim RGH consoles to RGH 3.0, I decided to do so on my own system and cover the process!
This video isn't as verbose as my other videos related to installing RGH 3.0 as this video is aimed more towards people who already have an Xbox 360 Slim console with a glitch chip installed and are comfortable performing component level work on their console. This will work on any Xbox 360 Slim RGH with a glitch chip installed, no matter which implementation of RGH 2.0 has been performed.

I use the exact method to upgrade my trinity from RGH 2 to RGH 3 and the boot times are so much better. Highly recommend anyone who is still using RGH 2 to do this upgrade. Great video and btw you forgot to blur out the CPU key at 11:15
Good looking out! Absolutely on the upgrade, another worthwhile upgrade if you want to keep the chip is to RGH 1.2, however I just opted to remove the chip entirely.

I actually find removing the top and bottom pieces that you say are the hardest part for you very easy. I guess maybe it's because I've done it so many times. Getting the two halves apart, on the other hand, I find much harder, at least until recently when I saw how you do it.

Hey Mario, this is a very nice tutorial but I gotta ask something. How come this is a RGH 3 conversion instead of a RGH 1.2 conversion? You would only need to change one I2C wire to PLL, remove the other I2C wire, and reprogram the glitch chip. It would be a lot less work than converting to RGH3.
It was fun to do and I've had this question several times from folks wanting to upgrade to RGH3.
Amount of work would have been about the same either way since I would still have to scrape PLL, rewire chip, reflash the chip, and update the NAND for SMC+
My first attempt to convert RGH1 to RGH3 did not got so well. After removing the chip the Trinity had no lights at all, not even power to USB controller. I tried the original dump, nothing. I gave it one last inspection, I noticed via pad FT4R2 was lifted from the old wiring. I did some searching and found a post that talked about jumping C5R11 and R4D4 to fix this. After hunting down some pictures my trinity is back up and running, RGH3 boots great.

if i had a slim id totally try this, but my rgh 1.2 jasper instaboots everytime, however like you said only 1 in 10 or maybe like 1 in 50 times it just doesnt boot, its kinda weird and makes me get up to reach the power button on the console itself
Oh yeah, a RGH 1.2 Jasper model will do you well for eons.
I'm surprised you didn't flick that 4GB memory module off the board and slap in a hard drive.

Any plans on talking about how to convert from glitch to retail without having the original nand? so you can get secundary error codes
Didn't have any plans for that, however if you need to do that: only do so with a NAND programmer you can solder in.
Dump NAND, make sure you have CPU key, then build an image as "Retail" with "Clean SMC" checked.
@@MrMario2011 Thats the thing i don't have the cpu key, lets say you brought an rgh'd xbox but it won't boot so you need to go retail first in order to diagnose
@@LenoxFilms something similar happened to me, I just dumped whatever nand it had on board, built a new nand off of it and flashed that and it worked.
Been wondering if you could do exactly this to convert to RGH3. Thanks for the video, my brother will be happy, he has a few RGH consoles with terrible boot times so he can convert them now

Hello. I have glitch chip installed just like you (wired) and I want to completely remove it and get back to stock. Do I need to repair NAND as well or what is the procedure in this case? Kind regards
Yes. You'd need to flash over a Retail NAND with Clean SMC enabled, then remove the glitch chip.
Will there be and will there ever be (never say never) a soft mod for the 360 just like the OG Xbox 🤔 By the way I followed one of your tutorials the other year on softmodding my OG and it was fantastic. My original is still going strong with all the frills and trimmings 😀👍
Don't expect there to ever be a softmod, unfortunately. Although I would love to be proven wrong.

Hey @MrMario2011 i am planning on getting my self an Xbox 360 Falcon version that already has an RGH and i would love to know if you have any videos that are focused on un-RGH-ing Xbox-es, as of now i don't have any OG backup files from the OG owner/modder and i am worried if i decide to do an RGH V3 mod that I'll brick the system or even worse kill the Xbox 360😟😟😟😟
I said in the video I wouldn't recommend anyone convert a Phat RGH to RGH3.
@@MrMario2011 is it because it's impossible oor??, i am asking mainly because i want to have a Vanilla Xbox 360 and re-live what other people had it like back in 2010's and late 2000's, am not worried about the de-sodering because i am pretty good at it, i am mostly worried on the Software side of the hack not to brick something
I just tried to RGH3 my Xbox and I’m pretty sure I bricked it. Any idea what to do next? I was following a previous Tutorial u made, I got to where you get the cpu key from xell and it wouldn’t boot up… what do I do next? Do I have to get a new Xbox and start over?
Could be soldering quality, especially the point under the X-Clamp
If RGH 2.0 has been installed, does that mean RGH 3.0 doesn't need any more modules, you just need to use a cable and jump it like in the video?

RGH 1.2 for Jasper if Phat.
RGH 3.0 for Trinity if Slim.

If my current corona rgh is having boot issues and freezing issues after about 10 minutes sitting on the dashboard would upgrading to rgh3 help those issues at all?
Maybe, it more sounds like that could be issues in regards to wire routing.

Hi Mario, i have xbox 360 corona running rgh 2 and dashboard version is 2.0.16xxxx, i tried updating but getting error, would like to ask if i follow the same steps mentioned in the video where i jrunner we are selecting the latesh firmware will it upgrade my dashboard automatically? if not then how can i update the dashboard becuase when i try to update i am getting below error: 3f4b 4497 1301 0300 c800 0036
It will, yes.

Yes
I would suggest to use the newer method of RGH for delivering the signals using AMS1117 1.2V voltage regulators, it is the safest method.
I've spoken with Octal who has worked on RGH3, the original release method is still what's recommended.

Getting my rgh 3.0 tomorrow, so hyped but it’s going to be an interesting one because I currently don’t own a pc, I am going to try to use usb to iPhone lightning converter and hopefully I can download files and transfer that way. If anyone is wondering why I’m doing it this way we’ll it’s pretty simple… big broke 😂
Hopefully it already has Aurora on it so you can transfer files over FTP if needed.

I managed to get a Modern Warfare 3 Edition slim for super cheap and i just installed RGH 3 with your tutorial and it insta boots every time.
