    As a new C8 Corvette owner, I've had to make decisions on what my build was going to be (1 LT vs 2LT Z51 Package etc..), I've had to break it in from the factory, and best of all, I've had to get used to a new mid engine sports car platform. In this series, I share with you what it's like to be a new owner of the 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette with the Z51 package and the Magnetic Ride dampers.

    You spend upwards of $65k on this car and you’re worried about wasting $150 on an extra oil change?

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato  Před 3 lety +2

      It's an unjustified cost since it's not really doing anything

      If you are paying someone $150.00 to change your oil, you're either very lazy or super wealthy one of the two. The oil and filter is cheap and the car is very expensive so just change it. I never go over 5000 miles even on ten year old cars with 300,000 miles. Changing your oil can't do any harm to you motor, not changing it could. You can back your Vette on some ramps, slide under and change the oil in no time, so why not.

    I always do a 500 mile change just to get rid of any shaving, etc. Then I change every 2,500. I like clean oil and coolant- cheap insurance.

    He’s correct and so are a few people in the comments , but it’s your car if you feel you should change your engine oil at 500 miles then do it , it won’t hurt the car , yes the manuals and engineers say your fine and more than 99.9% you will be .
    Myself I’m not worried about spending a few bucks on a oil change , I also don’t follow the 7500 mile oil change do my oil changes in 3500 miles on my CTS

    The break-in 500 mile keeps you from ruining your Corvette in the first month of ownership. I went a step farther and ran all the DCT modes during the 500 mile breaking, started on weather and worked my way through track. Then set my mode to track steering and brakes and left the Z mode set to factory settings! Just because you can change things doesn’t mean you should! The engineers set the modes up for good reasons. I am a driver not an engineer! I am at 6400 miles and going for the first Oil change and DCT filter charge at 7,500 miles for free just before the C8 is a year old. Delivery was August 5, 2020. This is the best Chevy I had since my C4 in 1993. Before that the best was a 1956 Chevy 210 2 door! It was Sea Form Green with a straight 6 and three on a tree!

    GM limits power, not revs. You are not supposed to rev about 4500 rpm for first 500 miles but there is no rev restriction in place. The car's oil monitor measures mileage and counts down. If you do not reach the 7500 miles within one year, it just uses 12 months as the recommended period. If you drive very little during the year, you probably don't even need to do it every 12 months but since first oil/filter change is free, take advantage of that no matter if you haven't put enough mileage on your C8.

    • @richarddobreny6664
      @richarddobreny6664 Před 3 lety

      They would also limit revs on a cold engine in my C7... as the car warmed up, the redline move up as
      Well....

    • @philsalley3278
      @philsalley3278 Před 3 lety

      @@richarddobreny6664 Different matter and I never noticed any rev limit on my C7. THERE IS NO REV LIMITER DURING THE FIRST 500 MILES ON THE C8 CORVETTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @superchief15
    @superchief15 Před 3 lety +1

    No, 500 miles is an internal that was great in 1970 but not now! The oil is better, the engines are better and except for some vendors that cannot make good valve spring that even a 500 mile oil change couldn’t help you just don’t need it! 7500 mile on mobil 1 is a great internal and some synthetics say 10,000 is OK. The 500 mile oil change wasn’t even need on my 93 LT1 Corvette when it was new! Again it was on Mobil 1 from the get go!

  • @petsur

    I respectfully disagree. I read the owner's manual, I know what it says. The day I bought my C8, the dealer had just gotten back from a dealer training session at Spring Mountain. They had a Corvette engineer there giving a classroom session on the car and he stated to change the oil at 500 miles. That in itself is enough for me. I've been told that the lead Corvette engineer says not too, but come on kids, the lead engineer isn't stupid. He has to play politics and go along with Chevrolet's decision to state 7500 miles. I'm sure the bean counters or GM global warming specialist came up with 7500. To spend 80K on a car and be a cheap ass over $100 is foolish. If you didn't, I'm sure you will be fine, but for my 80K, I'm going to ride it hard and I want it to be pampered until it's GO TIME at 1500 miles!!

    Change oil when the oil life monitor tells you to. Simple as that. The software in these cars measures a variety of variables to determine when the oil requires replacing.

    • @loopba
      @loopba Před 2 lety +1

      Its estimated based on driving time, not on measuring anything in the oil

    @franciscobarragan1360 Před rokem +2

    You change your oil because it loses viscosity not because it’s dirty son, filters works to clean your oil, viscosity is responsible to keep it lubricated, organic oil last upto 10,000 miles or 300 engine/hours but it is recommended to charge it 1/2life (3500-4500 miles) while synthetic oil can last upto 40,000 miles or 1000 engine hours but it’s recommended to change it every 7000-10000 miles

      Sometimes even the manufacturers don’t quite get it right. The oil life monitors on the 2008-10 Caddy CTS’s had to be re-calibrated because it was extending oil changes too much. GM ended up extending the warranty on timing chains (as I recall) due to this....
