This has become my new favourite book. I’ve never found a book that has comforted me so much in my own feelings, and towards the end of the book, I just cried multiple times, because I really resonated with the main character, and felt what she was going through. I was reading it for the first time in a depressive wave of my own a month ago, and Although I wouldn’t have called it uplifting, I needed to read it at the time, because I felt like I had nowhere to go where my feelings would be validated. I am already re-reading it for the second time, because it’s just become that book for me. I can’t wait for Austen’s next novel.
It resonated for me too, and still does. I'm glad you found it! 💚
It delights me to hear someone enjoyed this book as much as I did. As a queer atheist who grew up in the Catholic school system and also struggles with depression, anxiety, and existentialism, I felt like this book was written for me. In its authenticity and honesty, it beautifully encapsulates the struggles of a depressed person's day to day life all while being hilarious at points. I loved this book so much, I would love recommendations for similar books!
I haven't yet come across any other books like this, but I'm always on the lookout.
A happy thought in the title. It sounds an intriguing and humorous read. Basket Case by Carl Hiaasen was a humorous novel about an obituary writer obsessed with death.
Father Jeff says the words that make up the book title. I'll have to look into _Basket Case._
I put Basket Case on hold at my library. Thank you for the recommendation!
@@deborajohnson5717 I hope you enjoy it.
Enjoy the channel music. I out this on hold at the library.
Ooh, let me know what you think of it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks about death all the time. Recently, with all my worries about Rhonda, I’ve been thinking about you and your loss quite a bit. I hope all is going as okay as it can.
This book sounds fantastic. I really should read it. Great video!
I miss him like crazy. Dogs are so much like toddlers that the loss is enormous. I'm glad everything went well for Rhonda. ❤️
This sounds like a really good book. I'm glad you found some comfort through the story. Great review, AJ!
Thanks, Em!
This books sounds awesome! It sounds right up my alley.
Let me know what you think if/when you read it.
very much loved it
Yay!
I just finished this book and loved it so much. The humor, the great pacing and writing, Gilda’s sweet nature & thoughtfulness - there’s so much to enjoy here. I really want to recommend it for my book club, but do worry some people won’t get Gilda. But that’s okay - I think I will do it. Love a book with humor and heart, and looking for more of them if anyone has recommendations!
God, I loved that story. It seems like so long ago that I read it. If you haven't read _Beyond Black_ by Hilary Mantel or _The Collected Regrets of Clover_ by Mikki Brammer, I think you'd like them. Not necessarily direct comparisons for this book, but in a similar vein I think. _All's Well_ by Mona Awad might also be a good one based on this.
@@AJDunnReadsandWrites - Thank you! I enjoyed Clover & will check out the other recommendations 😌
Fantastic video. Loved your description of the main character, Gilda. Love distinct voices and grim/deadpan humor. You seemed to be delighted with the novel. 😌 You make me want to read the novel! “Honest” is a good word.
It was excellent. Let me know if you read it and what you think if you do.
I am glad the book gave you comfort with your dogs passing. I am glad you enjoyed the book! Great review. I am going to pick up the book! I put the book on hold at my library.
Thanks, Deb. Definitely let me know what you think of it.
I was really put off by the title of the book, but you've made it sound really interesting!
The title didn't bother me, but the cover is hideous. 😁 🐰
Great review! 👏
I read this relatively recently and really liked it. I also thought her voice was incredibly well realised.
Hey, Sina! Thanks!
Such a great title, this definitely sounds like one I want to get to sooner rather than later.
I hope you do! I'll look forward to your thoughts on it.
What a great title! I suppose it's true. LOL. I like the cover too.
There's no denying.
The Dead Receptionists? Oh yeah, I think I have their first EP haha. 😄 This book sounds really amusing and I'm glad it brought you comfort. Sounds like something I would like.
😁 An excellent read.
Wow, this sounds like I book I need to read.
I think you would really get Gilda's character. Let me know what you think if you read it.
What a great review you dd. It's sad that depression is a real thing. I haven't read it.
Thanks. Brains are weird.
Man... that's a morbid title. LoL.
I hate even thinking those thoughts. LoL.
Like I said before...I try staying away from sad.
I guess I'm one of those people.🤷♂️ LoL.
Glad You enjoyed it. I bet if I seen the title on a shelf...I would put it down.
Glad it helped with You missing Your friend (🐕)👍
