    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

I honestly believe that when I was a young person and I prayed very hard to see the face of Jesus that bit by bit He led me to Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi as if to say " this is what it is like when God becomes incarnate ". Now by ' chance ' Sri Ramana had some Christian education and was able to pick out significant sayings from the Bible particularly those that mention the ' I Am ' concept , and that The Kingdom of Heaven is within you ( Luke 17 Vs 21). For Easter Sri Ramana said that " the crucifixion represents the death of the ego and the Resurrection of the Self ". This Swami represents the beautiful inclusiveness of Vedanta . A great Blessing indeed 🙏✝️🕉️

@@Nishant_1313 so much misinterpretation ..Christian take on hell is more nuanced than that in my understanding. The only people who will be in hell are those who choose to go there. And hell as most Christian theologians will say is the state of separation from God, it is not a place as pictured in hollywood movies. And heaven is the state of ecstatic union with God, when we will finally see the hidden God face to face. This will be more clear if you read the writings of philospher and mystic, St. Augustine who lived in the fourth century A.D and who is considered the father of Christian thought. Yes Christians claim that they have the supreme eternal truth but that is the case in every religion on earth. There are few who claim that every follower of non-Christian religion will not be saved but that is a minority view, even the official catholic position is contrary to that. In the official catholic position, the truth and goodness hidden in all religions is acknowledged because every good and true thing comes from God.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT BEING A HINDU?

    1) Believe in God ! - Aastik - Accepted
    2) Don't believe in God ! - You're accepted as Nastik
    3) You want to worship idols - please go ahead. You are a murti pujak.

    8) You want to start your journey by reading Upanishads - Go ahead.
    9) You want to start your journey by reading Purana - Be my guest.
    10) You just don't like reading Puranas or other books. No problem my dear. Go by Bhakti tradition . ( bhakti- devotion)
    11) You don't like idea of Bhakti ! No problem. Do your Karma. Be a karmayogi.
    12) You want to enjoy life. Very good. No problem at all. This is Charvaka Philosophy.
    13) You want to abstain from all the enjoyment of life & find God - jai ho ! Be a Sadhu, an ascetic !
    14) You don't like the concept of God. You believe in Nature only - Welcome. (Trees are our friends and Prakriti or nature is worthy of worship).
    15) You believe in one God or Supreme Energy. Superb! Follow Advaita philosophy
    16) You want a Guru. Go ahead. Receive gyaan.
    17) You don't want a Guru.. Help yourself ! Meditate, Study !
    18) You believe in Female energy ! Shakti is worshipped.
    19) You believe that every human being is equal. Yeah! You're awesome, come on let's celebrate Hinduism!
"Vasudhaiva kutumbakam" (the world is a family)
    20) You don't have time to celebrate the festival.
Don't worry. One more festival is coming! There are multiple festivals every single day of the year.
    21) You are a working person. Don't have time for religion. Its okay. You will still be a Hindu.
    22) You like to go to temples. Devotion is loved.
    23) You don't like to go to temples - no problem. You are still a Hindu!
    24) You know that Hinduism ☺ is a way of life, with considerable freedom.
    25) You believe that everything has God in it. So you worship your mother, father, guru, tree, River, Prani-matra, Earth, Universe!
    26) And If you don't believe that everything has GOD in it - No problems. Respect your viewpoint.
    27) "Sarve jana sukhino bhavantu " (May you all live happily)
You represent this! You're free to choose, my dear Hindu!
This is exactly the essence of Hinduism, all inclusive .. That is why it has withstood the test of time inspite of repeated onslaught both from within and outside, and assimilated every good aspects from everything . That is why it is eternal !!!
There is a saying in Rigveda , the first book ever known to mankind which depicts the Hinduism philosophy in a Nutshell -" Ano bhadrah Krathavo Yanthu Vishwathah"- Let the knowledge come to us from every direction "

@@Nishant_1313 Hi! I think the only question I am fit to answer is your last question. I have read (and also follow to a certain extent) the writings and/or teachings included in the New Testament, but I don’t call myself a Christian - just a lover of Christ.
Yes, I am inclined to believe that Jesus walked this earth as stated, and I like to believe I have some kind of sense as to what kind of person he was/is. Do I believe the testimony of his apostles etc? I have no reason not to, unless some major changes were made or left out during translation and/or accumulation of the works. Now I am reading some of the writings that were not included in the New Testament. Do I believe the message within? I am inclined to say yes (yet within the framework of nondualism - will I be condemned to all eternity in hell for this? I believe no)! Do I believe an eternal hell? No. I believe that Jesus was a man both revered and condemned by the world and the worldly; so, I am not sure that Jesus by another name would not also be condemned by the institutions raised in his name.
BUT I do have people very close to me who do take literally and seriously the printed word of the Bible. I have not discussed the details of Advaita Vedanta with them … YET. From your request, I am now very curious to ask them what you asked, and if I do, I will update you as to what their response is!! 😊
And not to belabor the point, but I did just see a beautiful quote that I found when I just searched out Christian nondualism. This quote is by a Catholic priest named Romano Guardini that pretty much sums up much of my ongoing experience and belief (I hope I am copying the quote correctly AND that I am not being redundant). The quote is : “… although I am not God, I am not other than God either. And although I am not any of you, I am not other than any of you either. And although I am not the Earth, I’m not other than the Earth either.”
Maybe having an overwhelming and ingrained fear of God plus a twisted message from the church and mind is the reason for forceful imposition of one’s beliefs over others - but that is not love of or unity with God (or creation for that matter) imo - that is need for power and control and fear and domination and other stuff that is in and of the world (imo). Ok, wordy response. Take care.

1:08:00 "....therefore let us cast all our concerns upon Him, and it shall be well with us." Very profound. God is taking us to enlightenment on the FASTEST possible route, though it might not feel like that to us. When the distant flickers of the destination near the dawning sun reach us across the mountains, we start feeling that we are approaching...

First of All Jesus was a Myth and it was an adaptation of Local story of Orpheaus Bacchus , as cultural appropriation was very common to Christianity to convert Pagans , in the beginning they were worshiping Jehovah but when they came to know about story of Orpheaus Bacchus they made him son of god to attract pagans. To now more watch " A Tale of Two Calender " by Prof. CK Raju.

I do not follow any meditation technique, but have developed extreme faith in the supreme based on my life experiences. I follow your videos . I have experienced a bodiless state a couple of times while trying to sleep( although was not sleepy at all) .I got terrified( coz I don't know y I experience this ) and opened my eyes and all body sensation came back. Although the state was so blissful and there was absolute shutdown of mind. Please whoever can answer this 🙏

I've had one similar experience when I was much younger and for many years I've been wondering the same. But then I began my spiritual path about 2 years ago and through meditation the answer to that question became clear. Best answer I can give you is choose a yogi tradition (any will do) learn their techniques and you'll see the answer yourself... as Buddha stated in his first teachings, " The ultimate truth cannot be taught it has to be experienced ".
May God bless your soul with ever lasting peace and happiness 🙏🏼

28:22 Real spiritual life begins with crying, and then your requests receive a hearing ... cry helplessly one time and He does not forget, God will take responsibility for you and God will guide you. It will take time depending on Karma and sincerity and effort, but in one sense it is done, because it is now in the hands of God, and God will not fail you.

22:02 this is what distinguishes Evagrius from mass religion. It's not bad: whom will you have to solve your problems except God? It's because God has planned it that way, He doesnt want us to stay here. Hahahaha. Yes. This world is a bridge, pass over it dont stay here. Dont build a house here. God will make it uncomfortable till you learn your lesson. No problem, go to God with your problems and get some consolation. But go to God for God! Go for God! Pray for God! Sweet is his name, love Him! Keep your shoes outside the temple.
