  • After 2 & 1/2 weeks in Austria, Estonia & Finland it was time to go home, so after a brief pitstop in Los Angeles to thaw out a little from weeks of below zero temperatures, QF12 was my ride home.
    Check-In at LAX was quick and simple, however security was much slower than normal, maybe they were all suffering a week long hangover after New Years Eve...
    Once through, security, it was a sharp left turn, up to level 5 and directly across to the right is the Qantas First Lounge.
    This is a great lounge, however it doesn't have the views like Sydney does.
    Table service dining is always fast, and the food delicious, The usual Salt & Pepper Squid was ordered, followed by a Classic Beef Cheeseburger & Chips (Fries). The Ice Cream Sundae with Chocolate Pretzels was a good way to close out that mini feast (keeping in mind there were more meals to come on the flight).
    Boarding from Gate 152, and departure were on time, and my strategy of sitting in 88G paid off yet again, the 3 other seats in the row empty.
    As usual, the Customer Service Supervisor (CSS) came around and introduced himself (Platinum perk), we had a brief chat and he took note of my meal preferences, and offered a drink prior to the drink service commencing.
    The 2 crew stationed at the 2 rear doors (M5-L & M5-R) introduced themselves early in the piece. Both (and all other crew) were brilliant for the entire flight (this is why I fly Qantas).
    The Chicken Noodle Salad (Cold) is amazing, highly recommended. Followed by an ice cream sandwich, then Hot Chocolate.
    Then time to sleep.
    Aside from waking for the mid-flight snack, or a Ham & Cheese Toastie (or 2) I managed to get approx 9hrs sleep.
    Breakfast was the scrambled eggs, and once cleared some time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise views from both exit door windows.
    Arrival into Sydney was 10 minutes early (it would have been 25-30 minutes but ATC put the flight into a holding pattern off the coast).
    This flight was more reminiscent of the Qantas of old... Flight was great, Food good, and service was impeccable.

      The B747 was a special aircraft, I think it was around the same time, either 1989 or 1990 I took my first trip from Sydney to Los Angeles in this aircraft, back in the day where all the smokers were down the back. Thank you.

    Did you have any issues being so close to the restrooms? I never book those seats in case of sleep interruptions or fear of smell

      Having flown a significant number of flights in Row 88, I am yet to have an issue. The crew keep them clean, and the way the air flow is, any potential odours will be removed and expelled from the aircraft. Given over 90% of the time I get the entire row of 4 seats to myself, it is worth it.
      Sometimes people will congregate and have a chat, but crew usually stay on top of that.

    Great video. Just wondering, what software app did you use to edit your video? And what did you use to film - mobile phone or video camera? I have samsung s23 and i dunno if i can use it for filming.

      For videos like this I use an iPhone 14 Pro Max, I find recording in aircraft, or busy places like airports a Mirrorless Camera with lens etc is just too big and chunky. Video editing is done on iMovie, so nothing overly fancy. S23 will be perfectly fine.

    Thanks for sharing!! Do you know the seat pitch for economy? I had read somewhere that Qantas offers more pitch in economy than other airlines. Is that true? Thanks!

      Economy Seat Pitch on the Qantas A380 is listed as 31in (79cm). Having recently flown economy on American and British Airways, the Qantas seat felt more comfortable. Hope that helps.

    Great video, do the seats right at the back against the bulkhead still recline as usual?

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  Před 4 měsíci

      Thank you, technically the seat has something like 1cm less recline, but in dozens of flights in that row I have never really noticed it, nor it been an issue.

    hi great video. How was the customer service and seat comfort from one to ten? Did you check in a bag? Where they strict with the weight

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The Customer Service on this flight was an 11/10, from the regular crew to the Customer Service Supervisor that took care of the cabin section I was in. The seats are fine, keep in mind I had a whole row of 4 seats so managed to get at least 8hrs of sleep. Yes, checked a bag and whilst I was well under the weight limit, on flights to/from the U.S. they are very strict (you have a 32kg limit, so that is more than enough, and it would be hard to have a standard bag weigh more than that).

    Nice video! Honestly i do not understand how people can recline their seat in economy with a clear conscience. Look at 5:53, absolutely no space

    • @ausflyer

      Keep in mind the seats in my row were upright (my seat was slightly reclined), but yes, it is one of the drawbacks of flying Economy, when a seat is fully reclined, it is in your face.
      Thankfully during meals they are not reclined, and some flights you can be lucky and have someone that doesn't recline. One of the reasons I like the back row is when/if I recline it doesn't affect anyone.
