@@biggcebo that’s interesting. I will try that.
I find that if stuff is Re-Stemed it works well depending on what you're trying to extract. After messing with pre filtered material I find that all stem separators work good. 4 years ago We had NONE of this (at this Price point). fr fr

The stand alone version is usable, but only for really short sample stem separation, and even then you need to use filters to clean the sound up. Just doing it on PC sounds better and is way faster( even if you transfer a sample from your MPC, to the PC, stem it out, and send it back the MPC it gets done faster than the MPC doing it stand alone). Glad I didn't wait on the stand alone version because it definitely wouldn't be able to do what I'm doing with it on the PC. I've been stemming out entire songs(3-9 minute tracks), chopping the whole song into loops and doing live remix tracks on my standalone MPC One+. The standalone version is definitely a lo-fi version.
You are spot on.
yea it's barely better than Nothing. I even ripped files from a cd put them on a flash drive imported to mpc and it was really Phased out. Nothing I could use as a Primary stand alone sample. Mainly co star space filling type samples
not feeling the standalone version. I have te sektop version and don't use it as I was waiting for standalone as this is how i predominantly work. I was not impressed with the desktop version either. I think i get better results using their kill plugin to get bass. I basically separate into bass mid and high using air kill. Would not be suporised if Akain are not using stem separation AI algorithms as the MPC does not have the horsepower for that so instead its just using a standard set of eq and filters so some samples sound better than others depending on the frequency spectrum and how well different sounds sitin different frequency ranges.
Great video, and I'm hype!!!🙏🏾✊🏾💚

The Best Stems is Virtual DJ and FL Studio...but one thing to remember, the MPC is not a High Tech Beefed up Tanky PC, so when the Stems aren't great, it's the Hardware that the Stems are being used through. If your Stems are not processed in a matter of seconds, and it takes 1 minute, or minutes, then you do not have the Computer Processing Power needed to handle it
I think the best I have had a chance to experience is RipX. Fl Studio is good. Logic is very good also and the fastest I have seen with a high quality. I agree the MPC in Standalone needs to be more robust to do high quality stem separation.

I will not use MPC stems in standalone.
You are welcome. It might be great for lofi type stuff.
Got it running. Can I just stem out the drums of a sample? So I can a drum less sample? Or do I need to use all the stems all the time?
@@PeteOnTheBeat no you can deselect anything you don’t want to stem out.

Efficiency and Quality:
On-device stems are created using the zPlane Stems Efficient algorithm, desktop MPC uses zPlane Stems Pro for highest quality.
@@musicfan2135 and you can tell.
I feel like standalone stems would still be useful for texture, but they’ve got a long way to go
@@SimonPhoenix3 agreed
Sorry for blabbering GS. I was having keyboard + neck + mpc connection problems. Of all of these I only fixed the MPC.
From what I gathered this allows us to separate a sample into 4 stems. What I wanted was to just take out the drums of a sample so I can chop. If this can't be done,it won't be a replacement for Serato as I wanted, but for 10$ it's very good.
I tried to layer all the stems together, minus the drums, and chop that pad/sample but unfortunately it only let's me chop one stem and not the 3 together. I think that we can probably resample that sample with just the 3 stems but it's not has dynamic as it should be.
But again,for 10 bucks.
If anyone has any work around pls tell me.
@@PeteOnTheBeat I got you. So I think you want all the stems to have the exact same chops.
If I have it correct what you want to do is chop the sample BEFORE applying stems.
Then when you apply stems uncheck both check boxes.
It will then stem out the sample but each stem will retain the sample chops.
It sounds to me that the standalone algo downsamples (like , make 44khz into 22khz) so that the cpu only has half the data to deal with . There might other stuff too with the standalone algo , but the desktop version clearly has more top end ...
It is definitely a less efficient stem algo.
Stem separation struggles on samples with a wide stereo field.
It struggles on some mono samples as well. I have found some it cannot separate at all.
@@GhettoStyles yep…. if them frequencies are too tight it sounds horrible.

this really sounds bad, I'm trying to find an answer to the question why akai released steems for samplers, it doesn't make sense. There are a lot of ideas for some cool new effects etc. for mpc, but it's definitely not steems separation. It seems to me that these are also difficult times for influencers because they realize that it's crap and they have to put on a good face for a bad game. Some other guy from YT wrote that: what did you expect... but I'm asking who wanted sreemsy anyway...? akai simply responded to a potential sales demand, it means - they wanted to make money on something and came up with this idea, it's a pity that they released such a thing... it makes no sense

i dont understand if people have 1300$ to spend on gear why they dont help out local artists? couldnt the sample local music people? if i had that gear I would be out looking for stuff to sample .
Unless I'm not understanding your comment "we" do work with local artists all the time. It could be sampling or production. I think every person with a MPC or any other pro gear works with local artist and national artists when they can. The thing is some of these local artists need to take themselves and their business seriously. If I have invested tens of thousands of dollars in my equipment and my craft it is unethical to ask me to work for free.
Ill never pay akai for their trash plugins. I use ipad plugins and record directly to the mpc that way. Also stems on ipad is way better. Ill just do stems on ipad and then sample into mpc through the effects of the sp404mk2

Smdh. I don't care about new machines. I would much rather have a stronger system. We would pay for it in the 1990s we paid $4000 for a MPC 4000. I'm not saying they should charge that much. All I'm saying is that they can't use the price as an excuse. The new stems feature sounds horrible on the standalone because of the processing power come on now.

It's like saying, "well, we did it" while you can't even use it. It's a wack way to do business. They're going to need more powerful hardware to support this Stem stuff if they want to be "innovative" with standalone stems. Otherwise, just stop promoting it. Maybe they'll improve them somehow, but that's doubtful with the lower processing power on these units. Keep it real..Straight trash..tracks bleeding into each other. The industry knows the danger of letting people break down their records and get perfect sound tracks after spending all that money in studio times with bands etc. The market would be buck wild and no one would get paid. That's like giving you a mustang factory to build the same car as ford and all you do is change the rims, seats and sterring wheels and then say its your invention. Bottomline they make money while these so called producers making all this garbage music destroying classic records, sampling etc. live a pipe dream and want the easy road to riches. Stop it. Old school grew up in the 80's and know how to make music while new school wants a free ticket...no dice!!
@@billymoluv that’s a very hot take specially coming from the 80s when many of your favorite producers were sampling music and not even paying the artists and producers they sampled across most genres of music. It’s true the quality of standalone stems or any stem separation isn’t 100% there but sampling is sampling. It literally started in the 80s you said you grew up in and actually the late 70s to be exact.
@@GhettoStyles Yeah but how can you say the artist didn't get paid? the producers and the artist doing the samples are all in the industry but locals get hit even today with copyright laws. Industry own all the samples streaming etc. We get bullshit dreams they sell us while they act rich but now you really hear the truth..They are all broke. I know a lot of industry cats. The idea was good for us but the truth is dre etc have full access to sample or use original tracks from the studios. There's will never sound like ours stuff.
@@billymoluv you are talking about WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY. The facts will show that most music that was getting sampled all the way until almost 10 years after the streaming era began. There are tons of songs from the 80s and 90s that still have unpaid samples in them. As an example Mobb Deep’s Shook Ones literally just got claimed be Herbie Hancock in I believe 2020. That song came out in 1995. Not only that many artists like George Clinton and Jams Brown had to sue to get paid from sample usage. Digital Copyright claims is still very new and often gets it wrong still. Before you argue check your history. Producers in the 80s never told where they got samples from unless it was blatantly obvious and they didn’t pay for the vast majority of it. Wu-Tang 36 Chambers had no sample clearances until around 2019. A lot of artists have had songs retroactively pulled over old samples not being cleared. Please do your research. Sampling is sampling.
@@billymoluv just one side note most of the new artists today are not starting on major labels. And many aren’t going into major studios to record. XO Tour Life was recorded in a living room. Major labels don’t play nearly the same part as they use to.
