    I have a 1963 140 Daddy bought used in 1976 and he and I both raised numerous tobacco crops with it as well as gardens. We turned land, cut and tilled land, listed up land and put in fertilizer with it, bush hogged with it, subsoiled with it and have skidded logs with it as well as cultivated with it. I still use it to garden with, scrape snow and whatever else comes along. For my money, the 140 is the world's greatest small farm tractor. Thanks for making this video Chris!

    I had that problem with 1 of my corn plowing videos lol. “That’s not plowing” lol i stumbled upon your channel a few days ago. Love your videos. Straight to the point and tell the truth like it is. Reminds me of a lot of myself. I have a 52 super A and a 59 140 and wouldn’t take anything for neither of them lol. I was young and dumb some year back when I redid the super A and didn’t replace the the front engine seal and and piston rings and now I have a nice looking tractor the smokes and leaks oil but I’ll get to it 1 day. I do all my mechanic work also on these tractors. I have an old 2444 that’s the ran long enough to egg shape the front spindles. Hour meter quit working at 8800hrs but it’s well do for a rebuild. I have to take my final drives off the 140 soon and replace all the seals and gaskets. I think all of them are leaking lol

    Hello from Ohio! I like to garden enough to put some up for winter. Plenty of Cubs and As around here but I've only seen one 140 at a nursery. You're right, I've tried tillers, Sears garden tractors, gravely, hoeing my head off the whole time. It all worked but looked like a jungle . Yeah the fords and Fergusons are too low and uncontrollable for garden type cultivating cause you can be covering up your corn if you get out there when you need to. I finally found some H or M farmall shifting gang cultivators. Put on a H they do very well. So I'm two row now. I just looked at a john blue tractor the other day. That was cool. It had Buddingh finger weeders on it. They work really well he said. It's like a large allis chalmers G. Still too low for corn. All the truck farmers down in valley use the round-up ready fake corn. I say " why don't you just spray that chemical right in your mouth? I ain't eating it!" Ok, I'm done ranting.

    • @HomesteadingtheHardWay
      @HomesteadingtheHardWay  Před 4 lety +1

      Lol don't worry about the rant , I've seen some of those new Gs they look like a good idea for produce but nobody around here has bought one yet . Up your way farmers probably went to bigger tractors before the 140s came out. A lot of farms here had a one row farmall and a 40 horse Ferguson into the late 80s until most of the little guys went under and big farms got to be normal . Thanks for watching

    I read somewhere where Allis Chalmers sued Farmall when they first came out with the model A because they supposedly copied the torque tube type design Allis had on their model B so in order to get around the lawsuit Farmall moved the engine over to the side. As they say, the rest is history. What a stroke of luck or genius ever how you want to call it. Love the tractors. Just picked up a Model A with cultivators can't wait to try it out. Love your videos keep them coming.

    My family are row crop farmers on large scale, (I ended up a carpenter) but when I was a kid my Grandpa planted acres of potatoes. He had a Farmall offset with a middle buster plow that he’d roll the taters up with.
    All us grandkids took buckets and bushel baskets and crawled around picking up all the taters and pouring them in the barn floor or under a shade tree. Day after day until all the taters were dug. Fed all 9 of his living children and 21 grandchildren with those taters and what wasn’t sent home to eat were sold.
    This took me right back to those days of being a snot nosed kid fighting through tater bugs and ground rattlers to gather up all those red potatoes! Thanks for sharing

  • @coburnlowman

    The Allis G is a great contender. You are closer to the crop on the G. The G isn't as powerful as the Farmall side tractors tho. Never had the 130 , have an A , Super A , and a 140. There is a world of difference in the A series , and the number series. That 113 engine on the A series is so weak compared to the 123 engine on the number series. The 140 has a much better geared transmission then the A series as well. It uses the same engine , and transmission as the Super C. It's an overlooked gem as well. I truly miss my old Super C. It would get into tight places, but just big enough for decent work.

      To be able to cultivate two to four narrow rows . Like onions , carrots , lettuce etc . Supposed to use small plows or tines , A few produce farms around here still run a couple. They won't handle a two row set up like a C wheels won't go out and not enough engine .
