  • Up to 50 new or converted charter schools will be funded out of Budget 2024, the coalition government has announced.
It has set aside $153 million of new funding for the publicly-funded private schools over the next four years.
The money will establish 15 new charter schools and convert 35 state schools in 2025 and 2026, depending on demand and suitability.
Associate Education Minister David Seymour said there had been overwhelming interest from educators exploring the charter model.

$153m charter schools? $107m lunches? Are hungry school children funding this? Sounds like a smashing idea

Newly released documents obtained by NZEI Te Riu Roa on an OIA request show that between 2014 and 2018, charter schools cost up to $48,421 per student annually. When adjusted for inflation, that figure jumps to around $60,000. The figure is over six times what is spent per student per annum in mainstream schools, which is around $9000 per student.

So rather than properly funding actual schools Rimmer is just abandoning them because he thinks they're failing.

Once u start dividing the students up u start to turn them into a gang mentality loyalty n allegiance to their moto means they fo whateva it takes to win which has wide resching consequences

Looking to leech more public funds to private corporations. It was certainly a year of record corporate donations to certain parties.

OK. But be careful this will not be an avenue for Maori to get Te reo, Tikanga, Maoritanga based teaching and be Government funded.
