Anyone who claims to know and love the character of Rick Grimes should also understand that his primary motivation, what drives him, what propels him forward and gives way to all those badass moments he's had, is his LOVE for his FAMILY. Protecting them. Seeing them safe, happy, fed, and living, FINDING THEM. Rick is a family man. He protects his own. After Lori died, and Carl started to trust her, and Rick allowed himself to fall in love again, Michonne became his family. So yes, this is a love story. Yes, Rick's love for her and hers for him wil be front and center, amongst all the action and gore - the LOVE. That's what keeps him going. You cannot stan Rick if you're going to reject and dismiss his primary motivation. Love. Of. Family.

The writers were pretty strategic early in establishing this. Rick coincidently meets Michonne on the same day he comes to terms with Lori's death, thought that was symbolic. Rick definitely was looking for a new family, & what's great about him is he brought others into the fold too when he saw they were trustworthy. Rick is a man of integrity & values loyalty.

It’s NOT “his own show” that’s what you don’t seem to be getting. It’s BOTH of their show. Was always going to include BOTH of them. She’s a writer, producer, handle casting/editing and she’s an actor on the show so she is getting the focus she deserves for the importance of her character to the overall narrative. Just as Rick will. But If you want something that won’t center Michonne in the story, focus on the comics cuz that definitely won’t be this show, which they have repeatedly said since the beginning.
