They were very early, but to be honest, the music from them never digged me. But still its really strange they did "modern" death metal we listen in the 90s already in the 80s. Even i dont really get their vibes, i still think they're way less underrepresented in Death Metal.

Has Nunslaughter ever played the Deep South? Anyone know. Talking South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama or Mississippi. I’m sure they’ve probably played New Orleans, Florida, North Carolina. Maybe not North Carolina, but probably.

When I first heard Spiritual Healing it sounded a bit more like Death / Thrash.

We all know that Chuck Death went prog metal in the mid 90's when he fast-forwarded metal intto new musical dimensions (lyrics and composition) and inspired the next-gen (for better or worse). Chuck deserves the respect of metal genre talking heads, but not the hero worshipping nor the reputation given to him by those who say he wimped out on the brutality of death metal. Chuck evolved faster than the rest of the genre and we have his albums to attest to that FACT.

I think by Scream Bloody Gore Chuck had mainly blown his load on extreme metal since he had done so many demos by then

hot take opinion?: early death iz great, first 2 albums, great...never cared for spiritual healing as much.....individual thought patterns iz MORE of a deathmetal album than human, my earz say, it's based on the backup band playing the material. hoglan is more "punishing" on the drums.

Living Monstrosity was the first death metal song I ever heard. Still one of my all time favorites. Without that album. I wouldn’t have learned about death metal the summer before 9th grade. Back in 1990
The non PC attitude is what I like most about Spiritual Healing. Ultimately, it would be the last good Death album IMO.
I think Beyond The Gates is the best Possessed material and the most death metal, but maybe im a shitkunt

I think the version of Mutilation on the album is a bit weak. Compare that it to the version on the demo that came out right before Scream. It sounded more frightening and had more of a punch to it. The album version wasn’t bad but it was fizzled out and weak.
Death demos are the real deal and some of the best death metal ever made
