    Good morning, Louie. You mentioned vacuum sealing. Have you ever tried one of those electric wide-mouth glass Mason canning jar sealers for silver coins? And regarding your retirement, as the old saying used to go: "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!"

      @losinglouie  Před 24 dny +2

      Yes it is, yahoo! No I'm afraid I have not tried the mason jar technique. Prolly would work fine tho. As long as it's smaller items.

      What? Put loose coins in a mason jar and use the sealer with mason jar attachment and air seal? Would still be air inside. Perhaps a desiccant and a oxygen absorbers tho would work as well.

      Was told there’s is a trick to vac sealing. That corrugated side you cut a piece 1” wide by however long the bag is and insert between a bag that’s otherwise clear and flat both sides. And it can vac and seal it so one side isn’t that corrugated so you can see the backside of the coin with no obstruction. Only prob is I’ve no idea what clear two sided bags don’t contain pvc or whatever that causes silver coins to tarnish. Might have to reach out to the company and have em make a pre sized vac bag with only a corrugated vac lip just for us stackers. I got the mason jar attachments as I do pasta in mason jars that way. I’ll try out the method your saying. Def seen some Johnson matthey 10oz bars on eBay in vac bags Before I guess with 1oz you’d do 5/10/20 to a vac pack and prob flip every other bar over so you can see a representation of both sides of the bar/coin through the 1 side or the vac bag that’s clear.

    It's a glut, everyone is still selling to pay for taxes, insurance, and everyday living expenses along with so much volatility in the market.

    Hey Louie! Trying to decide which sale item on SD Bullion is a better buy. 1 oz Silver Bars - Design Our Choice $0.99 over spot or 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin - Random Year $4.99 over spot?

    • @losinglouie
      @losinglouie  Před 24 dny

      For silver eagles, quantities of 20 or more are cheaper elsewhere, and super cheap on costco if you have the exec club membership. I'm guessing you are buying a small quantity? But I might lean towards the eagles.

    I’m glad I found your page thanks for the info.. is there gold or silver that is exempt so the USA government can’t take it or tax it, when someone dies and in there Will give it to family members? If you or anyone knows thanks.

    • @losinglouie
      @losinglouie  Před 24 dny +1

      I think putting it in a will would all but insure taxability. As an alternative maybe consider a safe deposit box that is passed to the family discretely.

      @@losinglouie A traditional way to avoid taxes is to conceal the gold or silver in something that would go through probate as a different item. Three examples that i have heard of are under the seat of a vintage car, buried under a garden shed behind a house, and embedded in the black statue of a falcon. Of course the recipient would have to be told of the gift in advance in order not to sell or give away the item by mistake.

      Thanks for the info. I was wondering about pre 1933 gold, I thought I heard somewhere that it’s not taxed or taken when giving to family members, maybe if it’s not in a Will

    Isn't proof a better coin than a BU?

    • @losinglouie
      @losinglouie  Před 24 dny +1

      yes, but in the case platinum eagles, the BU's are more collected and have highly limited mintages.
