1.8 Trillion Pieces of Plastic Floating in Pacific Ocean

  • The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a growing area in the ocean located halfway between Hawaii and California. It contains an estimated 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic. Ocean Voyages Institute is a California non-profit organization that hopes to remove some of that plastic. They took a ship called Kwai to “fish” for garbage. On a 45-day mission out to sea, Kwai picked up 96 tons of waste from the Pacific Ocean. Most of it was single-use plastics like toothbrushes that people use everyday.

    I’m glad a large channel is talking about this situation. This is extremely concerning since sea animals can be eating this all of this plastic and dying due to it. One day there’s gonna be more plastic than fish in the ocean.

    I've always hated how my friends say that one person throwing their garbage on the ground won't do anything, but when everyone has that same mind set this is the horrible result.
    Edit : of course I understand that waste isn't just from single use, I'm just stating my feelings on this. if everyone thinks oh what I'm doing myself can't be that bad then it becomes more of an issue than if we all just acknowledged our faults and work towards a better future, Because that's all we can really do.

      Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side. And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh. We can't count the rest.. once a plastic molecule is bonded it never goes away.. so the plastic might break down to the molecular level but it's still there. • @samanthajean808
    @samanthajean808 Před rokem +9

    Yes, a lot of it is single use plastic.. But MOST of it is fishing nets from commercial fishing. Plastic can only be recycled 2-3 times before it becomes useless. Best practice is to find swaps for single use plastics and make sure you're using what have have to it's fullest potential. Recycling does help, but taking a good hard look at what you use as a consumer is what we all need to do.

    The Great Pacific Garbage Patch actually originates from garbage from California and the neighboring areas. A big reason people haven't been able to be fully certain of its origin is because lots of it comes from the entire world as a whole. The garbage patch initially started small, but slowly grew, slowly developing its own weather, tides, and more. The wildlife, or what's left of the wildlife in the garbage patch area, have even started to slowly adapt to their inorganic environment. California needs to take responsibility, especially considering that the area of the Pacific where the garbage patch resides is considered part of the US.

    so how does it get into the ocean , do people migrate to the beaches and through all their plastic items into the ocean . or is it been channeled or dumped ?

      Thrown on land, washed up by the rain sending the trash into our rivers which will then go into the ocean and the currents carry them all into that one area

    Once a profit is made from cleaning up trash you won't be able to find any. Until then stop buying plastic.
