the kraken is a legendary sea monster of enormous size said to appear off the coasts of norway.
kraken, the subject of sailors' superstitions and mythos, was first described in the modern age at the turn of the 18th century.
however, the first description of the creature is usually credited to the norwegian bishop, pontoppidan. pontoppidan was the first to describe the kraken as an octopus (polypus) of tremendous size, and wrote that it had a reputation for pulling down ships. the french malacologist, denys-montfort, of the 19th century is also known for his pioneering inquiries into the existence of gigantic octopuses.
the great man-killing octopus entered french fiction when novelist victor hugo introduced the pieuvre octopus of guernsey lore, which he identified with the kraken of legend. this led to jules verne's depiction of the kraken, although verne did not distinguish between squid and octopus and the kraken rap battled cthulhu in freshy kanal rap battles on youtube where cthulhu vs kraken happened.
cthulhu is a fictional cosmic entity created by writer h. p. lovecraft. it was first introduced in his short story "the call of cthulhu", published by the american pulp magazine weird tales. considered a great old one within the pantheon of lovecraftian cosmic entities, this creature has since been featured in numerous popular culture references. lovecraft depicts it as a gigantic entity worshipped by cultists, cthulhu rap battles the kraken in a rap battle on freshy kanals youtube channel in the kraken vs cthulhu or also cthulhu vs. the kraken. in the shape of a green octopus, dragon, and a caricature of human form. the lovecraft-inspired universe, the cthulhu mythos, where it exists with its fellow entities, is named after it.

love the way each VA embodied their character, kraken sounds angry like the way sailors would portray it when they had their ships attacked and Cthulhu has a lower pitched voice to mimic its intimidating aura and make it seem like a god that’s been asleep thousands of feet beneath the sea
FR tho Pe$o and LEECHY were absolutely perfect casting

I love how Cthulhu's first verse seems like he just woke up, but the second verse seems like he's having fun.
It makes the battle so much more layered.

Freshy always goes hard on the weirder match ups. It was a good first spooky battle, and a very fitting beat for the these two tentacle monsters. Pe$o Pete and Leechy Boi both both did great too. Great job Freshy

@DeterminismisFreedom Cthulhu isn't that strong, he's weak as hell compared to the big boys of the Lovecraft Mythos, even someone like Galactus or Unicron could make Cthulhu into fodder

@@Fallout4277 That line was both referencing "cat-calling" (a form of harassment towards women) and the name of H.P Lovecraft's cat. H.P Lovecraft is the original creator of Cthulhu. His cat was named the n-slur.

Once again Dustin uses a horror legend that redefined the horror genre against a creature best known for myth and folklore in an aquatic rap battle.
I remember hearing the audio early, gotta go with my man Cthulhu on this one (although I bet the majority will side with the Kraken lol)
I think Cthulhu won as well.
Kraken had a really good bar with the catcalling diss, but Cthulhu was consistently on fire with his disses in this battle.
@@HB-fq9nn agreed. I wasn't really vibing with Krakens disses. Him misspelling Cthulhu's name was funny, and obviously the catcalling one was a bar, but aside from that it was pretty mid. Cthulhu's 2nd verse especially tore the octopus a new one
Cthulhu relied heavily on movies and relevance for Kraken, while Kraken did a lot more and kept a better pace the whole time. The name bit was fun because it simultaneously gave Kraken great characterization and called Cthulhu out on his kinda pretentiously complicated lore even down to his name.
@@TheLoonToon eh, it was pretty meh lol. There are smarter ways to diss "pretentious" lore than to misspell a characters name lol. It's funny, but I'd hardly call it a good diss.
And I wouldn't say Cthulhu "heavily" relied on the jabs you mentioned. He brought up the movies thing twice for instance. The popularity contest jokes were to show how Kraken and Cthulhu were on completely different leagues. I'll take them over "octopussy queefed" any day

I love that the kraken, who’s essentially just a big octopus, has the nerve to ask “who’s insignificant now?” to Cthulhu himself… an eldritch being, who’s essentially beyond gods, capable of rewriting reality itself, who can decimate universes with a thought, and who can drive mortals to insanity with a glance

Most people assume he is a great deal just because he is part of the Lovecraft mythos, but he isn't part of the "All Mighty powerful gods who can do anything they want" crowd. He is actually very low on the "hierarchy" of power.

This battle blew me away with it's flow and disses, Kraken has the better flow but Cthulhu just spit sick dude... Although my favorite line was the cat, oh my god that was brutal
