  • The verdict is in for 19-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla.
    The Strongsville woman, who faces multiple charges in connection with a deadly crash that killed two people last summer, is due back in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court as Judge Nancy Margaret Russo announces her decision in the case at 1 p.m.
    The verdict’s announcement comes just a few days after closing arguments were made in the bench trial last week.
    It's a case that dates back to Sunday, July 31, 2022, when Strongsville police say the crash happened at 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of Progress and Alameda. Upon their arrival, officers say they located a Toyota Camry “with severe damage and full airbag deployments.”
    All three occupants inside the vehicle - including Shirilla - were unconscious, not breathing and trapped inside the vehicle. 20-year-old Dominic Russo (Shirilla's boyfriend) and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan were both pronounced dead at the scene.
    Shirilla - who is accused of intentionally crashing the vehicle - faces multiple charges including murder, felonious assault and aggravated vehicular homicide.
    The prosecution says Shirilla was going 100 miles per hour when she went off the road and crashed into a building.

    • @michaelkabler9276
      @michaelkabler9276 Před 2 měsíci

      People get pushed down stairs all the time. She obviously wouldn't expect brain damage to be the outcome. I suppose she just pushed her for fun to see what would happen ? You can't tell a story without the details. She pushed her for a reason. That reason matters. She didn't intentionally plan brain damage the same as she didn't plan deaths of these two and being able to survive it. Thats not reality. People use little emotional bits of stories and ignore all the facts. You people are destroying society be twisting things trying to make your emotions into fact. Emotional decisions is the opposite of a judges job. And it's made it all the way to a position of power like that. You and everyone else will get caught up in that emotional court system in the future. Because emotions are not reliable, or fair. Legal system was and it was stable. This is crazy. Kid get adult charge adults don't get in the exact same situation. That is scary stuff and people being sheep blindly following that path are even scarier. GOD HELP US ALL!!

      @@Manu_Lemoine_FR I didn't watch the whole trial just bits and pieces but from what I understand there is video of her driving normally then accelerating to a very high speed and the brake lights never come on. Also, the car she was driving has a computer on it, like most new cars, which can collect data about the speed of the car. Evidence from the car's computer showed she accelerated to 100 mph and at no time attempted to put on the brakes. Further, while doing 100 mph she drove right into a brick building. So, her high rate of speed, no attempts to brake and aiming into a brick building with no attempts to steer away from it, one can reasonably deduce that she was on a mission to kill. There was further evidence that she had driven that same route some time earlier that week to scope out the lay of the land. Additionally, while she was in the hospital she said more than once how guilty she felt. It's in the Doctor's notes. Innocent people don't have anything to feel guilty for but she said she felt guilty.
      So, that is a handful of very powerful evidence. There may be even more but like I said, I didn't watch the whole thing.

Take the key out of the car or put the transmission in neutral or turn the steering wheel at a lower speed.. Why didn't you do anything? The car takes time to accelerate to 100 mph...It's not murder. This is a big mistake of an ordinary teenager ... similar cases happen almost every night ... she was unlucky .The judge should have considered whether prison makes him a better person...does the punishment achieve its goal? NO no, because it's not killer genetics, not a killer mind..just a marijuana night..She doesn't deserve such a punishment!A completely average teenage girl's huge mistake and drugs.This is not murder..the word murder means something completely different. This is mostly a fatal road accident under the influence of drugs.They have no witnesses .. there is no one who can prove what happened in the car 100% ... Car malfunctions are not the type that involve the car accelerating full-blast without the driver actually putting their foot on the acclerator. And suppose that did happen, where the car just started randomly accelerating - wouldn't anyone's natural reaction be to put on the brakes? The car's computer data showed that no brakes were applied as the car approached the wall.
      Just because she says she has no memory of the event doesn't mean it's true. And simply having your life in jeopardy doesn't automatically mean you lose memory of it. But if she truly doesn't remember it, then that would be much more likely because of the trauma caused on impact of the crash - not because of knowing her life was in jeopardy.
      No, the courts didn't "come up with a reason"...the prosecution put forth actual, empirical evidence using the car's computer data, surveillance footage, and testimony by those who heard her threaten to wreck the car. MacKenzie and her lawyer had the opportunity to put forth exculpatory evidence and an argument that provided reasonable doubt. They just didn't have any. It makes perfect sense if she wanted to end her own life too...any reasonable person knows that if you drive 100 mph into a brick wall, you probably won't survive it. But somehow she did. Her mothers reactions look so fake and forced.
