Is out
Terminator 2 has such a special place in my heart
Innerspace is a excellent sci-fi comedy classic of 1987 the film has a lots of charm and is extremely entertaining
I watched that as a kid, and I've continued to love it into the present. Such a great movie!!
“I need hairspray!”
innerspace is great.
I am a sci fi geek and I’ve never heard of it.
Small nitpick but at 11:45, "knows when to use CGI and when to use practical effects" uhhh, Alien came out before CGI was even a thing lol. Thats why those old movies hold up so well, everything was practical, so you didnt have to worry about the uncanny valley effect.
Hearing that genuinely stopped me in my tracks.
Same. Guy doesn't know film history.
Oh my… this is a dream come true top10. My personal favorites are terminator 2, matrix, and blade runner, followed by aliens, terminator, and alien. I am so satisfied to see four of them, or I probably should say all of them are here.
Looking forward to the video WatchMojo. My vote is for Predator 1987.
It’s hard to believe Star Trek movies didn’t even get an honorable mention.
It’s quite possible that the Star Trek films were overlooked because the franchise itself didn’t originate on the big screen. The movies were great indeed but the television series was more ground breaking.
I'm a huge Star Wars fan and while I always like to see Star Wars being praised, I think "Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan is a Sci-Fi masterpiece. It doesn't get the praise it deserves.
The Wrath of Khan.
No it’s not.
Cause they are crap for nerds only
Aliens ❤
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! 8:03 My #1 pick is Back to the future (1985). Back to the Future is a timeless classic that effortlessly blends humor, heart, and time-traveling adventure, leaving a legacy of pure nostalgic delight..!! 🤣
Great Scott, This Is Heavy,The Back To The Future Trilogy is always wonderful to view one I can never get tired of ever
That was indeed a great movie trilogy. Most movies never make good sequels, but Back to the Future is one the few movies that succeeded in making great sequels.
@@dreamguardian8320I beg to differ- Back To The Future THE best trilogy 🎉😂
Definitely the best movie trilogy ever made
Each movie as good and funny as the other
@@Sajdar85 Agreed, I like in BTTF 3, where they wake up Doc by using a spicy drink.
I thought Close Encounters of the Third Kind should have gotten an honorable mention. It is a revered and highly influential film in the genre.
Yes! Agree. Its a tough list as you think ET should have a place here too (although I get it). Wrath of Khan is another one. Another one I LOVED was The Fifth Element. That was kick ass.
For me, 2001:ASO was and still is more "Look at the amazing effects achieved at the time." It didn't move me at all... _at all_ ... and if I don't feel any emotion, then I can't call it good, much less great.
I remember my 1st time watching jurassic park in my local theater like yesterday. It was one of the first times I had experienced theater surround sound and when the t-rex vibrated the water with his thunderous footsteps...I was afraid and in awe. I went 3 more times after that.
Wow! Awesome list! Good job everyone! 🤩
Terminator 2 :Judgment Day, for me, is the pinnacle of cinema. Every line, action, or setpiece is perfect, and it has one of the greatest female movie characters ever, in Sarah Connor.
Amen 🫡
My favorite movie of all time. So...damn...good...
@@Storm23PS3 Mine too. One thing I saw was about how the action always deepens the characters and stakes, as opposed to just mindless explosions.
@@clay_gottschalk Absolutely. I have honestly seen it hundreds of times (I was a weird kid), and I still absolutely love every second of it.
@@Storm23PS3I am 39 years old and to this day its still my favourite movie of all time too!
Greatest movie ever made
Ripley is not the sole survivor of the Nostromu, Jones survives too
Right!
Jonesy!
Tears in rain was iconic and sad 😔.
Say what you will about James Cameron, but he's managed to make two of the best sequels of all time in T2 and Aliens.
Interesting that when you leave it up to the viewers that I agree with most on this list. Not much complaints out of me on this one.
Sci-fi truly is one of the most important genres of all time, for how important it is for that of the fact that it could be real in our way of life tbh, ya know.
1 = T2 in my eyes
Great Scott!
Blade Runner and The Thing came out on the same day. They had to complete with E.T. POLTERGEIST, ROCKY 3 and STAR TREK 2 at the box office. 1982 was STACKED and some movies that are classics today just had a hard time completing with the other summer blockbusters.
"Roads? Where we're going, there ARE no roads!" The onscreen chemistry of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd really attributed to the success of the "Back to the Future" Trilogy. You could really believe them as close pals.
You've misquoted the film there.
"Roads? Where we're going we don't need..roads.". But yes, the marty and doc friendship was/ is great
So many great ones! Back to the Future,Space Odyssey is perfect. It's claustrophobic. You feel everything. Alien is gold. It's fantastic! I love it. Matrix is fantastic! I love it. I agree with questions you asked. I haven't watched Dune but I think it's great. I agree with description. It's like Star Wars. Of course Terminator 2😁It's perfect. Perfect description. Don't miss the movie! Great video! Fantastic! Thanks so much for this😀
Metropolis criminally underrated
indeed, it could be the most important sci-fi movie of all times alongside 2001 Space Odyssey!
Many great films on this list. Many movies that ask big philosophical questions, that really makes you think.
T2 is one of my favs and I have watched it countless times.
But for me "Children of Men" is the greatest sci-fi- movie out there.
Predator says "Hold my beer".
Terminatior VS Robocop!
MCU VS Arrowverse!
There is a comic for Robocop vs. Terminator, and a CZcams show of it called Death Battle.
@@dreamguardian8320There were video games, too.
Great list...all amazing movies, though Predator belongs somewhere on there too.
Well we sure can see that between E.T. The Extraterrestrial and The Thing which one stood the test of time.
Only a couple of those would be in my top ten.
Terminator 2
Back to the Future
King Kong (1933)
War of the Worlds (1953)
Them!
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Forbidden Planet
The Andromeda Strain (1971)
Star Wars
Galaxy Quest
Putting T2 at #1 was absolutely the correct choice. Terminator 2: Judgement Day is The Greatest Sci-Fi/Action Movie of All Time. Plus it was released in the 90's - The Greatest Decade of All Time.
Blade Runner, T2 and 2001 Space Odyssey - 3 the greatest!
My top 3 favorite Sci-Fi movies: #3-Star Wars (the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy both ended up here) #2- The Terminator movies (The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) and #1- Robocop (the original film not the reboot) Honorable mentions: The Star Trek franchise, The Matrix, Starship Troopers. (I'd add more but then I'd run out of space and nobody would wanna read the rest of this comment lol! 😄)
Cameron being a complete and total [censored] has ruined his films for me. Not to mention I find his later films wildly overrated.
They filmed the dustbowl scene for interstellar in the stands of the baseball stadium in my hometown, i remember that place being a zoo!
Freakin love Blade Runner, The Empire Strikes Back, Interstellar, Jurassic Park, The Matrix, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Dune: Part One and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. I should also mention that getting to see Back to the Future in theaters was a legendary experience ngl.
I've never seen The Thing or Interstellar or A Space Odyssey so with that being said here's my top 5 starting with Honorable mention:
Jurassic Park
T2
#5 Jurrasic Park
#4 Alien
#3 Back to the future
#2The Terminator
#1 The Matrix
It's so refreshing to see a WatchMojo top 10 that isn't agenda loaded and total nonsense. This is a realistic and accurate top 10 of what multiple people actually think. Please do more fan ranks instead of the nonsense you normally put out.
I can't put Star Wars on a scifi list. It's high fantasy set in space.
On the other hand, Arrival is definitely top 10, as is Tenet. Both have uniquely mind blowing takes on how time works.
At 6:00 Maury povich emerges: He is..............NOT the farther!
Luke: Nooooooooooo., noooooooooooo 😱😱😱😱😱😱
dune part two, arrival, blade runner 2049, aliens, star wars a new hope, close encounters of the third kind
Definitely read the Arthur C Clarke book, that is the basis of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, it will fill in the gaps in the film narrative.
I know way too many of the lines from some of these films. 😁
I thought this list was pretty much upside down -- and it is -- but Alien being so high let's me forgive it. Flawless film.
Wouldn’t the Ghostbusters franchise be partially considered Sci-Fi too?
*TRON* is still my favorite in terms of style, subject matter and pioneering CGI.
Sci-Fi is my obsolete favorite genre. Love this list. Ellen Ripley is my favorite ‘action hero’. I would put Back To The future at number Four LOL - my favorite time travel movie. Unfortunately I never saw Interstellar and must find it somewhere. Back To The Future best trilogy IMHO. Honorable mentions to Robocop, Brazil, Twelve Monkeys, The Fly, The Martian. The best Blade Runner is called The Final Cut.
INVALID VIDEO!!! no me to Robocop? Gedda frakkk owda hear 😂😂😂
Can you do a video of the most awesome anime movies like Inuyasha, Naruto, Pokemon hopefully sailor Moon, Digimon and a bunch of others PLEASE 🤞?
Another quality honorable mention should be Ad Astra.
I would think Inception would top Nolan's sci-fi flux over Interstellar.
Thankfully it didn't
I agree. In fact, I found Inception engrossing and Interstellar pretty much felt flat to me,
For a best of all time, so many movies never got a mention, let alone a place on the list... Contact (1997), Forbidden Planet (1956), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and War of the Worlds (1953) are great sci-fi (where remade, the originals were better). Mentioned but I think deserve a place on a "best of" list: Planet of the Apes (1968), Dune (1984), Star Wars (1977, as originally released), The Terminator (1984). Deserving of higher placement: 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Good list. I personally don’t like: 2001, Jurassic park and Star Wars. But rest is great. And great order.
bruh 2001: a space odyssey blew my mind away like blade runner and matrix and interstellar all in one
Back to the Future and Jurassic Park are my favourites. But I would like to mention E.T.
Two older films from the '50's are definitely worth watching. "Forbidden Planet" and "This Island Earth" are both classics. There are others, but this is a very good starting point for finding the hidden gems from the past.
Forbidden Planet was fantastic on many levels. Groundbreaking and innovative on many levels. Robbie The Robot was one of best robots ever
When you think of Forbidden Planet two classic Sci Fi scenes came from it. Beam me Scotty. And help me Obi Wan Kenbi.
The Fifth Element was awesome! Minority Report too.
Yes! The Fifth Element has got to be one of the most flavor heavy sci-fi movies with a ridiculously fleshed out world. The fact that it's a one shot only makes it better.
Terminator 2 is the right winner(my all time favorite movie, seen it loads of times), but the list feels incomplete without Aliens, Pitch Black, Inception and The Terminator(nearly on a level with T2).
"thats a damn Minigun!"
There’s one I kinda remember seeing on tv about these things that airplanes shot at and tried to destroy but they did not damage and the things destroyed the planes. Not sure if they were alien robots or drones but it looks like the movie was filmed in the 70s, 80s or 90s.
Jurassic Park is the film I saw the most times in the theater. 17 times. Happy spoiled grandchild here.
Alien, could have been a good movie, but the fact that it's a movie length advertisement for smoking cigarettes is just revolting to a point I can't get passed.
Terminator 2, back to the future and Alien definitely earned their spots
11:40 Like @Effedup said, Alien was made before CGI was Even a thing in movies. The practical effects in this movie and 2001: A Space Odyssey are the standard bearers for what practical effects should be in sci-fi movies.
I wondered what could beat The matrix and I cannot dispute it's iconic position. So many of the Terminator movies tried to capture the second one and not many if any can
The problem with the terminator sequels is they ALL try to be T2 when we all wanted to know what happened AFTER T2. Not sure how i feel about no predator. Always had trouble choosing between the two. Personally i prefer predador. But on a technical level...T2
Back to the future was a classic.
Predator should have been an honorable mention...
Interstellar is my favorite movie. I do think Zimmer plays a huge part of it. The score is really an outer world experience.
You missed an obvious one, Robocop!!! Yes, the original!
Who are the hosts? I think I caught that the dude’s name is Andrew but I didn’t catch the name of the other host.
"l'homme qui rétrécissait" vieux film noir & blanc ( année 30/40)
Et "Proteus"
Bienvenu à Gattaca
I would have voted for war of the worlds the original and the remake maybe not number one but i enjoyed both of them
C’mon Watch Mojo, the Terminator isn’t a “robot”, it’s a cyborg.
Jurassic Park used to scare the crap out of me 🤣
Skynet está começando 😅
Dune part 2 ahould be on this loat for sure
Terminator 2 is real achievement in film making.
Now, we all know that Jurassic Park is a history film..
Awesome time guys
I always think the 3 Star Wars trilogies are more sword and sorcery IN SPACE rather than sci-fi in a genre sense.
You're not wrong. Many have dubbed Star Wars as the film that launched a sub-genre, "Science Fantasy.' Lucas used a lot from mythology to create Star Wars.
Jurassic park was intense and was one of steven Spielbergs greatest movies of all time.
As voted by young people. No mention of "Forbidden Planet" or "Fantastic Voyage," "2001:A Space Odyssey" ranked a very low #9(?🥺?) and the original "Planet of the Apes" and the first "Star Wars" are not even ranked, just mention kind of in passing. All the movies on the list are great and worthy films. But, come on, really? Oh, and by the way, I almost forgot to mention, the ORIGINAL "The Thing" from 1951. Just because it's older and less graphic than the "remake," doesn't make it a lesser film.
T2, bttf, interstellar
Stalker, Solaris 1972
Alien and The Thing are horror movies.
T2 is action.
Other than that I guessed the entire list except for Jurassic Park.
I am honestly surprised District 9 isnt on here
Man where is Inception....Star Trek...Tron Legacy...Mad Max Fury Road...etc etc the list can go on and on.
I think AI Artificial is one of the most underrated science fiction movies of all time I never see it on any of the top science fiction movie list’s but it definitely deserves a spot! like this comment if you agree and tell me what you think!
I must have missed the spoiler alert at the beginning.
Gattaca!!!😀😀😀
#1 is correct.
Predator should be on the list as well as Stsr Wars......
What about Event Horizon & The Core?
Personally I'd say Back to the Future should have been at least rank 3 since it's better than Jurassic Park and Alien
I love INTERSTELLAR, JURASSIC PARK, and the honorable mention of DUNE (2021). In all honesty though, DUNE: PART TWO is the best sci-fi movie ever!
I 100% agree its scope pure emotional pull and production are truly epic in every way possible
I love most of the films listed but its not even close for me D2 is just amazing.
Disappointed that "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan" nor "Predestination" made the list :(
It`s super obvious you cannot list them all and there are probably like 5 Great Movies I cannot currently remember out of the top of my head right now as well (Even if they, in my personal list, have ranked and are ranking very high...), but I wanna mention one movie that most have either forgotten or even never knew it existed, yet according to me in it`s own right and a single movie release (even if based on game franchise I think) is one of the better of it`s kind. I'd go as far as to state that within it`s size (when compared in scale) and goal rivals it`s much more famous brethren like Star Wars (mentioned here) and Star Strek... Speaking of which Where the F is ST in this list o_0 (I am actually SW fan thou) how can non of it be in it? "First Contact" is extremely good stand alone for example of the "aged ones". My Shout Out goes to: "Wing Commander" Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard murder, it for me, on screen, in this one. Also the much less popular female support and ~the other one are very good and decent and the male support is ~very supporting. That movie is a Shadow S (meaning no spotlights shine on it, yet S it is). Well the villains might be a lil bit too cartoonish, but ~budget I guess.
Contact 1997 written by the great Carl Sagan.
My guess is that Empire is going to be voted the best.
