The timing of this video is amazing, I've been looking for an alternate to S3D for a while! Thanks UJ!
prusa or superslicer are better anyways
I bought and setup a 3D FDM printer (Neptune 2D) and while Benchy printed near-perfectly... my niece wanted an Eevee and the default Cura settings made support removal a NIGHTMARE. And left lots of spots I had to cut, lots of spots that didn't NEED support and even some literally embedded into the model, which made me grab my dremel tools and sanding the model for half an hour...
So I'm really glad you've tested and showed results of this software. Definitely have to try it after work for my next project.
How did it go?
That mirroring option is absolute genius.
Agreed! Such a simple thing but it’s 🤯🤯
@@UncleJessy definitely falls into the "why didn't I think of that?" category.
@@UncleJessy hey any info about a second extruder for the ultimaker printers? I have the s3
Isn’t mirroring a normal function of all slicers? I do it all the time
@@Waynes-Wares "Support mirroring", not object mirroring.
This doesn't really justify a monthly sub to me if I'm honest. Cura is pretty good IMO. The Arachne engine (is this in Lychee's filament beta?) is really useful for variable layer heights and Cura is generally pretty customisable and loads of well established plugins all for free.
I don't think being able to manually place mirrored supports and seeing them before slicing justifies the cost.
You can manually place & mirror supports for Free FYI its just the inline supports/paint on supports etc. But yea completely understandable. Plus this is the first release of their slicer. I'm just happy for manual supports vs what we have in Cura & prusa slicer for all of the helmets I like to print
@@UncleJessy I want to PURCHASE my software, not subscribe to it.
@@finieous198 Purchasing software is how we end up with Simplify3d, taking all their revenue up front and abandoning the software afterwards. :(
Arachne can't make it to Lychee, it's open source and they'd have to release their source code to integrate it.
They could create their own thing based on the same concepts though.
This subscription fee is cheap. Not to mention they they are using this money to further develop the software. Don't look at what it is now. Look at where it's going.
@@EpicnSkil but Cura is free and is continuously updated quite regularly
this is a HUGE step for lychee to have the capability of both SLA and FDM based 3D printing i love using lychee for easy to use slicing. for just dipping there feet in this.. i would be excited to see how far they come with this
Prusaslicer gives you very good custom support, which works amazingly well.
So i will not rush changing to a subscription based product.
It's probably a good thing to ask Prusa to add these features to a future version.
Prusa Slicer is much more useful in my opinion based on this video, not only you have already painted supports, but also you have smart fill painted supports to designated face, and you can paint where you don't want supports to be. So nope, Lychee is overpriced product already.
I love the custom support option with mirroring. Would be nice to see a custom infill option as well. Where we could place infill/supports inside the 3d print. Also love seeing the supports without slicing every time but yes, the colors need to be changed. I will be downloading Lychee now :)
Uncle Jessy I have a challenge for you! I have made 2 products (prototyping and testing is over) and have had massive difficulty in producing nice looking models in my 3d Printers. They are now 2 years old and I still can't get them made to a standard where I can sell them.
This is all because they contain what I call 'large flats' - horrendous surfaces that are easy when you look at most home products - but tend to be real difficult with resin and FDM printers. Like the bottom of an ashtray or coaster for example.
Now what happens if a printed something that looks like a coke can? Hideous warping and elephants foot!!
If I gave you these models - or even if you tried to print some large flats yourself - I think it woulkd make a great video that is actually usefull for tackling one of the biggest drawbacks to printing in general.
Some notes : Using lightning infill is the only way i have managed to stop elephants foot and warping on large flats. I hear you saying 'vary the fans - the temp, etc - print slower/faster - change this or that' but trust me - my findings are done over an entire year trying to solve this problem. Lightning infill helps massively!
Also I am aware that resin printing has wapring too for flat suraces, but I cant print metallics in resin - so unless you have a video about adding metallics to resin - then I would love a video about large flats please if possible! (or about adding metallic powder to resin ) Neither of which you seem to have done - so I would love if you could deliver that for xmas - Father Printmas!
The "island detection" like on resin is one thing i love, others show a static representation of unsupported areas, this can let you see where it might be critical, dynamically
Loving the filament beta, it was already my goto for resin. Great breakdown.
man i'm so excited that lychee is moving into FDM slicing. I love their resin slicer so i know they'll be able to get their FDM one there sooner rather than later!
if you go to filament settings you can force a change to nozzle type...line width = nozzle with in the settings
Thanks!!! Yeah looks like it’s locked at the machine level but free to change there.
SuperSlicer can support that whole rim with one click by overhang angle of your choice, with snug supports that save a bit more material also.
Supports are the reason I got simplify3d too its all I use for fdm.
This is honestly the closest and even better than what s3D has been able to do. Extremely excited by the potential of this
@@UncleJessy it's a pity simplify3d hasn't kept it up to date, they could have been king of the hill by now.
This is cool also thnx to Scenic Curiosities for helping me to get to this channel I will need this help when i try it on my own
Heck yeah! Scenic makes such awesome content and easy to follow tutorials for nomad
@@UncleJessy agreed
I still use Simplify 3d as well on my Artillery X1, and even though it has not "and probably will not be updated" it still loads quicker than Cura and works great!
It’s about 100xs faster that Cura with just about everything
The nozel size can be changed in the printer settings. Not on the print settings.
And tou can change the colors or just disable it of you don't want to see it. There's also an option to see layer lines before the slice.
That looks like a neat feature, but that seems to be all it's got, and other slicers have plugins to perform much the same functionality. I don't even see mention of the Arachne engine, either. I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to resin slicers, but when it comes to FDM slicers, it had better be balls-to-the-wall spectacular to be worth a dime, because the big boys are free (and open source!)
Yep agreed. They have a lot of catch-up to do plus building out some of their own features to make it really worth people switching over
Well, that's me sold on converting my jobs slicer profiles to Lychee! Just need to find the time to learn the filament and resin settings. I don't mind Chitubox but not a fan of their supports, but hate Cura as a pc user
Yeah defintely check it out. Fingers crossed it only gets better from here
I’ve already started moving over to the Bambu Studio slicer for my Ender3 S1
I downloaded lychee when started 3D printing 4 months ago the pro was a months free trial but honestly when it finished man was I lost just having the basic version! I now buy pro monthly for a fiver it's nothing it pays for itself in one print! It is a must going for the lychee pro especially the new version with all the mono 2 etc added and all this stuff fixes for resin printer's it's so fast now just able to pick your support spacing and just drag them! Support tags I'm playing around with just now infill etc for resin
Dang, that crown makes me think you should do an Aragorn cosplay!
I've been using Prusa slicer recently for FDM but being able to use the same slicer for FDM and resin is a nice option.
Lychee has some great options that need more research from me. Great Video.
Love their resin slicer so I bought pro for both knowing it won't work yet on any of my highly customized fdms but hopefully the support will encourage them to let us make custom profiles.
This totally reminds me of B9 Creators slicer and their supports. Very cool!!
Hold on a minute there is a Neptune 3 plus now?
Just wait, there'll be a Neptune 3 Plus Pro X soon enough... ;)
Laughing there's a plus and Max now
And a Max coming as well! Time for some big big Cosplay prints
Built my own. As of yet, I don't see support for custom parameters. Sticking with Cura.
hello jesse) recently on youtube I saw a video about how people print 3d models directly on the fabric. I wonder what you think about this, and whether it is possible to do something similar on other types of printers.
Just downloaded this and going to play with it. Jumping ship from S3D after their V5 was an utter failure.
I am also a longtime simplify 3d user. How does the free Lychee version match up to Simplify? The supports and variable layer height settings keep me using it.
Free version allows you to play around with the supports and I highly recommend trying it out. I don't know if they have Variable layer height setting in there. They do have a setting to auto adjust the layerheight during printing for better results!
How does it stack up against super slicer?
Pulled the rug out from under me Clay! I just ran crying to my Elegoo rep. Here's hoping we can see their MAX next to my CR-6 and KOBRA
I didn’t see any Voron printers listed. I also use a FlashForge Guider IIs. Not sure if it is supported in Lychee.
Would like to see more support options like "everywhere", "touching buildplate", "standard", and "tree". Need to see a model printed with a lot of supports to really see how well they come off when the base of the support is on the model.
Is the zig zag pattern of the support structure relative to the bed or the part. An annoyance I had in S3D was that duplicated (or a symmetrical model) would have different support structure placement due to their position on the bed.
Is there also support blockers? (might have missed that in the video). In S3D it is so annoying needing to click-delete dozens of support beams.
What about support line width? Annoying in S3D to need to create a second process just to under-extrude support.
Does it support vertical holes with zigzag support or the much better perimeter-following support (like Cura does or like PS "snug supports"?
Zig zag, yes is based on the bed but you can rotate the supports in the app!! Didn’t show in the video
I’m not seeing support blockers but wouldn’t be surprised if they are there or coming as it’s on their resin slicer!
Not familiar with support line width, in the pro option you can really wildly manipulate each support or set of supports
Not familiar with that last request. I’d say checkout the free version and see!
@@UncleJessy @Uncle Jessy What do you mean by "you can rotate supports"? Do you mean you can change the support xy angle? If so, this wouldn't help, at least not that I can figure. The only way I know of that mitigates this issue is slightly shifting your parts to align them with the "support grid".
Support blockers are a must imo so I'll look into myself.
Support line width, in PS or SS for example, is the ability to change the line width of the support structure. Dropping it to just below your nozzle diameter makes the support break apart much more easily and it also saves a somewhat insignificant amount of filament.
As for the "snug" supports, imagine needing to support a 90* overhang "lip" of an objectt. Would you want the overhanging perimeter supported by zig zags or supported by support structure that follows that perimeter? Hard to explain without photos, but S3D style supports are awful for supporting any small lip without a lot of clearance.
I bought Simplify 3D and it was great until I got a Prusa and moved to their slicer.
I do like Prusa slicer but again it’s the supports and having to slice to see what the heck it will look like. They finally added those snug supports which at least make them print/look cleaner than the fuzzy mess that was there before
Have you tried raised 3d’s slicer Ideamaker? Lots of cool features in there for free and they have manual supports.
I wish they had the 3 plus out and on sale for Black Friday, I would have def brought one! I have the Neptune 3 and love it as it is my first 3d printer really does what I expect without much ramp up.
So far it’s amazing. I’m not sure when it’s officially up for sale yet but the pricing + buildvolume and features are stellar
In the material settings, you can change the nozzle size for the printer within Lychee. Thanks for this video!
Nozzle size isn’t a real thing. It’s all about volume anyways. Unless the slicer implements some layer height or line width limits according to nozzle size, it doesn’t matter at all
It is such a shame that I can not purchase the software and only have a subscription option. After 5 years, I would have paid $250 for the software, NO THANKS!
Is there some sort of stock notification on Elegoo's site? The day you released your Neptune 3 pro video they were already out of US stock lol
If you have the extra money get the pro! Wow it saves so much time. And time well that’s absolutely money! I have used different slicers and lychee has been the best.
I might have to give it a try.... but more importantly...will you be doing a video on the Neptune 3 Max at any point? I need something to replace my Artillery Sidewinder X2.
The slicer also supports Ankermake M5.
Just tried the beta and after several restarts to get things corrected a basic print did ok.
The initial issues I see.
As you found, can't make your own printer. Couldn't even find a way to copy one and use that.
No place to enter filament diameter. It is listed under a printer but is locked. Needs to be in with filament. You can adjust acceleration and jerk but not the filament diameter? Odd.
No Z offset adjustment. One of my printers does not have auto leveling so you need to use the Z offset, like in S3D, to fine tune the first layer.
One issue I found was the start script for the printer I tried was basically useless. Nozzle and bed heating at the same time which basically leaves the nozzle at temp cooking the filament while the bed heats.
Also the prime wasn't even on the bed.
The script was a hatchet job that was mostly over done, excess commands that weren't even relevant or functioning properly.
Overall it is ok so we'll see where it goes.
Agree with you on S3D. Lot's of people rag on it but it still works well and is reliable.
Would you mind touching on how you would tackle a relatively flat object or object with a flat base with a flexible plate? I notice the suction loses on a flex plate a bit when resin printing.
I almost never print flat… BUUUUT I like that idea and challenge🫠
For miniatures I feel printing flat gives the best results
Any chance we could ge a "speed settings" video for this? I have been doing resin prints for about a year and am getting into fdm for terrain and larger prints. But this seems like I am missing something. Your cup printed in 6 -7 hrs but I have some 1/4 - 1/2 inch dungeon floor tiles I'm planning on printing up on a neptune 2s and lychee says it will be a 34+hr print...
I'd love to see how this version of Lychee works with a full head helmet like a Mando or something similar. I've messed with it a little, but I'm curious how many supports you'd need under the dome to avoid failure.
I don’t know if you read the comments, but is it possible to do a video about retraction rate wipe I usually keep pro and I use a viper any cubic and I get spider strings all over the place and I don’t know how to get rid of them I have messed with all the settings I just don’t have the technical know how. I have actually been in contact with lychee support. Oh my gosh they are amazing amazing. Best customer support I have ever seen on anything just remember they’re in France so there is a time difference but if you could do something like that, talk about retraction the spiderwebs, the stringing all of that that would be awesome.
I prefer IdeaMaker. It allows custom supports too. I'm surprised it doesn't have a larger fan base.
Your inability to use cura is a direct result of the dependence on S3D. I started out on S3d when they first came to market. Easiest way to do supports and dual color back then. Cura has same abilities now. Also PRUSA slicer can do painted supports. S3D hasn't updated in years and is being left in the dust. They have become their own meme about when their update will be released, etc. Learn Cura, you'll be glad you did. Check out Chuck Hellebuck's (CHEP) videos for all the Cura tricks and tips.
Don't want to learn Cure, try prusa slicer. Prusa is hard for me, but I'm learning it because having options are good. Now I might have to look at this Lychee slicer because, Options!
Hi... I have Neptune 3 Max... I could not see Neptune 3 Max in Fdm 3d Printers... So how can I use Lychee..???
If you like s3d then take a look at Ideamaker. Almost the same interface. Really easy to migrate from s3d. I always thought the devs from s3d had move to ideamaker because its sooo similar
I'm new to resin printers but have been using FDM for 3 years. It remains to be seen if they actually innovate enough on the FDM side to warrent the paid subscription model when there are so many excellent free FDM slicers although I do like the workflow in Lychee (especially having 3D mouse support) and it would be nice to have all my 3D printing workflow in the same app.
I bought S3D when I first started but didn't see the point in renewing the subscription when there were no new versions coming out.
FYI - S3D is not subscription.
Really appreciate your videos
Trying to get the right gcode to use with my ender 3 pro with added bed leveling. Copying the gcode that works in cura was not the way to go...
Have you tried dental resin for sculpture prints? I’ve wanted to try temporary crown dental resin for a sculpture print
🙌🏻
I'm new to resin 3d printing where can I find a good Elegoo community? What Wham Bam flex plate should I get the original or the new XTR?
how do you update lychee i dont see an option for it and i dont see an option for fdm printers on my version
Out of curiosity what printer did you use for your base on the Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro since they don't have it listed? I'm new to 3D printing and wanted to try this out with my new Neptune 3 Pro but I'm not sure which one printer settings would be best for experimenting with Lychee Slicer since mine isn't available.
This is AWESOME! I have been waiting for them to do FDM forever. I have an off topic question Uncle J. I am about to get my first bottle of ASB like resin for my Elegoo Saturn and wonder what settings you use in Lychee with your printer if you use that type of resin? I have always used the PLA based before but started making minis for my kids and his is a bit more rough with them so I needed something stronger. Please advise! Love your channel.
I am using the free version of Lychee. At 07:58 you show the estimated print time etc.. Is it only available to Pro users, as it is not showing up in my UI.
I'll have to check it out, I guess I'll have to wait though since I don't currently have a 3d printer with a 0.4mm nozzle
Is the fdm option only available on the paid version, or does the free version have it too?
Is lychee safe for subscription? I've always used prusa but just bought an elegoo saturn 8k based off of your reviews. And I see you run lychee as the slicer. But what im trying to do needs the pro. Do you recommend it?
I couldn’t help but notice that Elegoo Neptune 3 Plus out of frame. Is that true?
thats cool i downloaded it and i see they have profiles for flashforge printers so hopefully they work
Seeing supports is the best.
Sry i'm a little confused. Since I have a Neptune 3 Pro too, so does it mean the Lychee doesn't support my N3Pro, or I can choose N3 and that will work too?
Subscription based for a slicer is just.. hard no. There are very few applications I find to be able to really justify a subscription model as the only option, slicers are very definitely not on that list. But no hate, a lot of people feel differently and Lychee is undeniably a quality product. If they let me buy it outright, with the option of paying for updates, my opinion would likely be have been different.
I love Lychee with my Mars 3 but although my Sovol SV04 is in the printer selection, but I didn't see how to set the modes of the 2 extruders there. I'll stick with my Idex in Cura for now.
Ideamaker has manual supports and also has some plane cut features for free
I think I will hold off until it gets updated a bit more with more features added in. It does look promising though.
I will still be using Lychee for my resin printing. Infact my subscription updates automatically for it today. But for now I am going to stick with PrusaSlicer for my FDM printing.
Ah, no support for larger nozzles.
I use 0.6mm and 0.8mm nozzles on my printers because I sometimes need to go big, it saves me hours of time, and electricity.
I still use s3d mostly, but as soon as superslicer/prusaslicer enables custom supports it will be over for other slicers
can i use this with Elegoo Neptune 4 pro / max
I love this new slicer but the issue I'm having is the print time. For something that would take just over 23 hours in Cura says it would take over 51 hours in Lychee. Was wondering if you had any input on this Uncle Jessy or if anyone else might know?
I think I am just too use to Prusa slicer so gonna have to stick to that. I'll keep an eye on this though for sure.
all hail prince Jessy!!!
Is it using the classic engine or the arachne engine?
Kid just bought herself a Pro last night . Good to see we can use the same slicer for both our printers .
You'll find Simplyify3D updated ver5 is superb👍
love simplify3D but why so little love from them??
If there was a new slicer that had support for belt printing on the cr-30 i'd be beyond happy
It will be added to Lychee Slicer in the future :)
@Uncle Jessy Can you please share the profile/settings you use for your Saturn 2 8k on Lychee? Your resin prints are clean and very fast. Thank!
Would you be able to make a settings guide for the Neptune Series for Lychee. I bought the pro software based off of this video and cannot find a good setting profile that is time efficient. I am printing on a Neptune 3. Trying to print Dungeon Tiles in a time efficient manner. Any info would be much appreciated!
How did you buy it? I can only find subscription options.
which slicer is the best for elegoo neptun 3 pro?
If you love all this functionality, you should check out IdeaMaker
Wish it supported the CR10-S
Adverts before slicing if you don't pay a monthly subscription service. Nah I'm good thanks.
Not a fan either but I understand why they need to do that.
How dare a company try and make money!
It's like 5$ a month
U can invest into a printer but can't spend 5$ to support the project.
Takes an hour to stage and support your files, several minutes to slice, hours to print, but you can't let an ad play for 20 seconds... Riiiiiight
You're missing the point. The adverts don't bother me so much, because they can be blocked pretty easily.
If however, you're ok with yet another monthly subscription service that'll slowly but surely go up and up year on year once you're locked in, or remove features you previously used in a lower tier and are now in a higher tier that you need to pay extra for then go for it.
I absolutely hate cura. I'm so glad lychee is finally supporting fdm prints now
I mean I really want to like Cura, but it just runs so bad, and the functions just seem horribly clunky, and it takes forever for me to slice anything. But it is free and open source and I see why lots of folks like to use it.
Love it, my wonder is can you work in the gcode for say an added BLtouch? I know you have to manually change the start gcode in Cura. I love the software and would love to go pro so I can clear up some space on my PC, but need that feature to get the most out of my printer.
I FOUND IT, Def going pro! FOr anyone also wondering, it is in the settings of the printer itself. You'll see General and GCODE and the latter is where you want to be!
I think the one item that caught my eye was the interface. Otherwise, paying for a subscription is a detraction.
Is this true? "NBO film can increase 3D printing 40% faster than FEP" . It would be nice to save that kind of time.
Should have kept the supports on the I love 3d printing mug. Would have completed the look even more.
Ooooo I’ll be able to use the only slicer I’ve liked enough to pay for for everything 😱
Looks cool, but the Linux version crashes every time I try to export the gcode, so I'll wait until it's out of beta . . .
they charge for a beta which lacks tons of options...more like alpha. the resin version is nice, 5 bucks a month for constant development is fair. filament version should be free till final release, resin subscribers can test.
