  • Hello fellow strobists and off-camera flash lover, we find ourselves again with yet ANOTHER dumb idea in our lighting world. This time, it is from Phottix, releasing their own version of Brandon Cole's Black Dish, the RAJA Eclipse Softbox.
The RAJA Eclipse is essentially a Black lined softbox...In this video, Yvens B reacts to the claims made by the Phottix team in their CZcams video with their newly released off camera flash modifier.
Please do not go after the creator here, although it's a terrible idea, all criticism should be made towards Phottix for accepting to make this disaster. I feel slightly bad for Brandon's Cole now that a company stole his idea.

There’s been a lot of hype about artificial intelligence, but there’s far more natural stupidity…
There are countless ads that you see about some kid who invented a heating system that can heat an entire room on just 5 watts, or some other device that somehow ignores the laws of physics. These scams are unfortunately profitable, otherwise you wouldn’t see them.

Should I get a copy for review? 👀

Would love to see you get one, only to haphazardly spraypaint it white/silver/YvensBlue on video, in order to UP its resale value

And dont forget to make those grids 18% gray so that the light can "roll and blend" through them better

I wanted to try another Phottix product, but having seen these unparalleled ludicrously false statements, I have no intention of doing so anymore.

I had a feeling someone else was going to copy this bad idea just to profit. 😐

Kind of sad that this is the state of photography in 2023.

@@YvensBPhoto well I’m not sure what the hell is even happening anymore on this side of the industry…sheesh. A modifier that was misguided being ripped off to do another version… I just…. I’m struggling here

I have theories, but I'm as baffled as you brother. Lighting is not heading into the right direction.

@@YvensBPhoto at first it thought maybe Brandon didn’t accept a run on these Boxes from an OEM so they turned around and sold them to phottix. But this looks like it’s not the same exact one soo yeeesh

Hahaha, knew you'd be on top of this one. Phottix has a lot of really well-built, rugged, almost over-engineered gear, but this...well... hm, it's a thing. This totally came out of left field and I am wondering, who is this for??! Also by the look of the promo video, it looks like their editor missed the Halloween deadline. It's weird that they would release this silly soft burn box thing when they have stuff like the G-Capsule out. (or coming out?) One would think they would just make a fabric inlay for that or their other modifiers and probably sell a bunch more of this groundbreaking, innovative, amazing rubber coated fabric just from people trying it out as a novel accessory. But hey, if you cant beat em, join em. I am waiting for the release of the YvensBLUE box to drop next year with built-in auto color correction and grading.

@@YvensBPhoto yeah, this thing deserves to be mocked into oblivion. Im convinced this type of thing only exists to (try to) make photographers look cool using it.
