    "The Boeing 777, commonly referred to as the Triple Seven, is an American long-range wide-body airliner developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the world's largest twinjet." Why would any commercial airliner fly their biggest aircraft to Pokhara? The typical runway length for commercial airliners is roughly between 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) and 13,000 feet (3,962 meters). So PRIA doesn't have a runway that is too short for majority of the commercial jets.

    Regarding the 305 Million USD contract, that is actually a fair price. Your video states that in 1980's the estimated cost of the airport was 40 Million USD + 45 Million USD = 85 Million USD. Now you need to add inflationary costs therefore the average inflation rate in the USA from 1960 to 2021 was 3.8% per year. Since we are using USD, and if you add 3.8% to each year on the initial cost + inflation.... you will reach the current contract price. So, if you don't know your finance and economics, it's best not to report without making sure your content has some value. 305 Million USD is a very fair amount for this airport through an economic perspective for it's contruction as per inflationary pressures.

      If you get good loan doesnt mean you just throw it all away.. If there is no good revenue/income source even bank doesnt give u loan. ADB backed out because they knew the idea was gonna fail and they did their reasearch. It obviously a debt trap when they knew airport couldnt generate any profit along the way.. Now, please read title of video and stop giving your opinion on inflation/finance/economics. This isnt real estate or crypto trading.. Please do your own reasearch, maybe publish a paper on it to defend your statement..

    • @arcanamel
      @arcanamel Před rokem +5

      @@AranShahi Economics isn't about stocks and crypto lol it is what governs your entire life. All development happens on the back of debt. You cannot build a nation or even a small business without utilizing future income as a source to fund todays development. I bet you or your family member have a house, vehicle or business or maybe you are studying in a university, all of that is paid with debt. This project if not completely viable on its own for the first decade to pay its interests it is totally viable when the goverment uses its expenditures to pay for the remaining interest plus principal. So how is this a debt trap? Just use some common sense and a little logic Aryan and stop being a little lamb who follows every little thing Indian media tells you.

    • @AranShahi

      @@arcanamel so u r saying carrying more debt to clear ur previous debt that on betting completely vague plans which has no revenue. Currently the airport cant even generate enough revenue to pay for it operating cost and yet, You beleive magically the air traffic for Nepal will spike to x100 profit. Common sense you say, i say you should stop dreaming.. A decade already has passed building it what else future projection do you need..

    • @arcanamel
      @arcanamel Před rokem +5

      @@AranShahi I don't know if you are employed or unemployed, if you are building something for the economy or the market or for the public. However, I don't think you understand the principals of development. First you must build infrastructure before people can come to a location. Imagine this, if Namche Bazaar didn't have a trekable route and there was no airport in either Lukla or Syangboche, do you think tourism there would have flourished? Do you think those airports were feasible in those days? I am pretty sure there were many Sherpas who thought building a treking route was a stupid idea, a debt trap perhaps. Good things take time, effort and most importantly risk! You will learn this as you grow and maybe start your own business. And government expenditure means utilizing money we have raised in taxes to to pay for development, so we wont be taking another loan to pay the current loan.

    Pokhara International airport was done with good faith; but India did not want to see Nepal becoming prosperous and developing thereby not allowing the air routes. If Pokhara internation is debt trap, then it was initiated or driven or even engineered by India. So much so that we can not rule out the possibility of conspiracy for the downing of the Yeti airlines 10 days after its opening. This is very intriguing.

      The political crisis in 2018,President Maithripala Sirisena sacked then Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,political instability and infighting, the Easter Sunday attack in 2019 which caused the tourism sector, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022 caused direct and indirect impacts on the economy. Continuous policy missteps and less than desirable economic management of the Gotabaya Rajapaksa government. The Value Added Tax (VAT) cut from 15 percent to 8 percent, resulting in Sri Lanka being downgraded to a ‘substantial risk’ investment category in 2020, closed doors to international financial markets. As the COVID-19 pandemic impacted exports, remittance and tourism revenues, as sri lanka had to continue servicing its debts without earning dollars, and as imports continued to balloon,Sri Lanka’s forex reserve decreased at a rapid rate. A ban on chemical fertilisers in the guise of shifting to organic agriculture backfired overnight when it affected the agriculture yield, ultimately resulting in food shortages. The tea industry,one of the main sources of foreign exchange, saw its yield plummet by half.The rise in the global fuel market due to the Ukraine war compounded the challenges. The result was a sharp decline in government revenue, a dramatic dip in government reserve, and an increase in imports.The govt for the past few years introduced a populist budget that spend more than it earns.
      This is a govt that mishandled an economy compounded by external factors that i mention above.
      Looking at this crisis the west and indian media took this opportunity and twisted the reality to fit into thier propaganda and paint the picture dark as a chinese debt trap(a term created by the west to create fear mongering). The americans are basically saying only u can do bussiness with World bank and IMF and not china.
      Ppl like u that doesn't know the past history of sri lanka nor do ya'll know the internal politics of sri lanka and thier situation. Instead of being pragmatic and using logic, yall are just emotional and sentiments gets the better of u by listening to all these media hype on sri lanka just to fulfil an agenda.
      Back then our Finanicial Minister Janardan sharma ban luxury imports.The ban on imports had adversely affected the government's revenue collection.Every year the govt keeps increasing the budget and loans keep increasing to cover up for the lack of revenue collection.Expenses are not in line with revenue. Dumb decisions from govt are made that can cause an economic crisis. Do you blame this on china too? Or do u think we should hold the govt accountable for the mess?

    So much hate for the Chinese but not a question raised to the country and the people governing it. If Nepal was actually worried about getting in the debt trap, they should initiate talks to open Indian airspace for flights in and out of Pokhara. I don’t see or hear anything that is being done to bring international’s flights, where is the Government initiative and incentive for foreign airways. Nepal did need a second Airport if you haven’t learnt that yet. And if India doesn’t open its airspace for Nepal that will be unlawful and against UN Convention of Transit. And some stupid comments you have made in this video without taking note of rate of inflation in the last 40 years.

      @@amiithan4992 well self sufficiency is the only hope for Nepal. The world is global now. Nepal needs to work smart, if it lacks resources then they need to be able to build skilled manpower for IT and startup sector. Or else use the resources we have to fund other sector. The problem is not being able to manage funds, deeply rooted corruption. Neither China or India can be Nepal’s saviour unless we become self reliant. The funds coming from outside will dry up too so better and urgent allocation is important.

      Can you share which UN convention did broke? India is well within it's right to give permission to any flight operation in it's exclusive airspace.
      Even Pakistan doesn't give access to Indian flight operators going to central Asia/Europe and most of our flights have to circle around Pakistan.
      Before Planning the Pokhra airport you should have taken permission from India regarding the airspace. India is opposed to BRI and Chineese projects. Anything chineese and India will be against it. China has been continuously opposing our actions against Pakistan.
      Ask chineese to make it profitable and provide their air route. India can't and shouldn't give permission.
