    Flankers
If the line has great variations to suit different uses and seasons, I buy the flankers that suit me.
If I am just looking for my single favourite interpretation in the line, I buy just that one.
ideal Intense with its hot pepper opening appeals to me more than the cherry opening of Ideal EDP.
My choice is not the most popular of the line, though I am glad to be able to have a single selection from the line that suits me.
The bottle design is my favourite too.
I'd love to be in a pitch dark room and reach for the matte black black bottle, spray and experience the Intense notes, all in complete darkness.
    NOIR INTENSE

Excellent. If guys like you and Monsieur Guerlain (though he has to be careful or they’ll shut him down again) and enough smaller reviewers and customers demand better, maybe M. Wasser, Guerlain and LVMH will hear us. And it’s tragic if they don’t. Guerlain is the best. (Although I say Habit Rouge is all-time best designer range [and Wasser agrees! 😉] and I’d say Vetiver is number 2 because I really like Vetiver as well) They’re listening to the wrong people, and being guided by the wrong principles. Where is the high art they once strove for? Where is the unquestionable quality? Guerlain needs to turn itself around in terms of imagination and quality and the fan base will grow and so will the $$$!
    Great video and commentary!
Keep, speaking out! They should put you on an advisory board.

I have also been very disappointed in Guerlain as of late. I can understand them wanting to be more mass appealing but they are going about it the wrong and frankly, lazy way. I was so excited about the release of Meteorites but it's such a let down. Obviously made to appeal to a very young age group.
Another Lhomme Ideal flanker. Where is the innovation and creativity?

Sometimes its due to regulatory restrictions in certain countries on certain ingrediants of the perfume. In the interview Wasser gave on Persolaise Perfumes' channel he said that this was the reason some of their products recently went out of stock or were discontinued.
They may be trying to rework the formula or waiting for the approval of some aromachemical in the perfumes before they sell in the US. Or something may have become restricted after they came up with the formulas and can't figure out how to reformulate them with integrity.

The common mall shmuck/designer snob will still lean toward bubblegum blue invictus savauge sport no matter how well crafted a mainstream designer from Guerlain is. I think it makes business sense since to appease their loyal supporters who don’t want to smell like a little boy or girl. They (Savauge, bleu, Armani, varvatos, etc..) already have the market share...I hope Thierry accepts the challenge. Eloquently put, Eugene. I loved every second of this video. True love for perfume (or anything for that matter) should always involve constructive criticism in my opinion.

I stick with the classics. Habit Rouge EDT, Shalimar EDP, Jicky EDP, l'Heure Bleue EDP, Samsara EDP and the newer Lui... the rest I don't know, I am going to try Jardins de Bagatelle but that's it, I think most are just market pleasers, far from the artistic Guerlain the niche archetype...

I've been getting back into the Guerlains lately and find it so confusing that the scents are so hard to find. They don't sell online in the US and the ones that link out to a retailer are mostly out of stock. I live in LA, a major market, and there is almost no distribution here. Even the 'flagship' Saks has a very limited amount. Its just not a modern way of marketing your product. Why is Dress Code even on their site when you cannot buy it anywhere? But I overall agree. I just got a sample of L'Homme Eau Boisee - which feels identical to the Prada Infusion Vetiver. I (and we all, I assume) expect so much more from the house gave us the pinnacle of so many types of scents. I also don't think they should be lumped into 'designer' fragrance. They don't have a design house like Chanel, Dior, etc. They are a perfume house. I get why due to price point and availability, but given fragrance (and beauty) is their only focus - they have a higher bar to reach in my opinion.

    • @usmellsgood
      @usmellsgood  Před 6 lety +1

Hey Tim, i feel your struggle as they aren't available online in Canada but i am lucky the fully stacked boutique is not a far drive for me. As far as distribution goes ill never quite understand where they are coming from holding back certain releases or a whole chain of lines and most G counters in my area are an embarrassing joke. Im hoping this is rock bottom for them and we can only go up from here.

I'm 110% with you Eugene, my exact thoughts about the brand and latest releases. I did had the change to try this new one, when i saw the notes of this new one I got a bit hyped but then I remember the new flankers of guerlain and since this is direct to the mass market I soon lost hope for something truly unique in the mass market department and was I right, like I thought very similar to the edp with some small changes, a bit like the mon guerlain floral very similar with the last one with some minor changes. And like you said, if this was from Hugo Boss it would be a good release for that house, but for Guerlain, not good enough, look at Gucci and what they are doing now, the market is getting saturated with the same thing... but well, at least guerlain is not making a ambroxan bomb i hope

They are nice but not loves. I would love to know more about Derby and that family of fragrances. I do not have access to this line locally and a $250 blind buy is too risky. As of now I think the original Ideal takes the cake for #1. Amzing almondy cherry pipe tabacco type scent I adore the sweetness. Ideal Edp comes in #2 place.. Lintense n cologne tied for #3. Havnt smelled sport or cool yet. Heritage is my top Guerlain scent silver cap more aldehydes slightly brighter gold caps slightly darker feel both are amazin.

So much appreciated your sincere position with them...this is a lesson for all those who praise someone/something when it doesn’t deserve it. It was supposed to be in our nature, the honesty but nowadays became a quality. I salute you, real man. I’m glad is still there...so when I wanna watch real perfume talk, I watch you, Kristo and Peter from FragranceView..rest is bs... I got to know perfume now and I’m just disgusted by all those online reviewers which are unable to formulate an opinion of their own....and just go by the official notes in the order that they are written. Robe noir black perfecto and l'homme ideal parfum are close to being masterpieces in my opinion , not quite the same heights as the historic masterpieces like habit rouge tho ..amongst the best designer releases by chanel and dior theses two fragrances mingle in fine , they don't go that step further as we wish.

I ran across it at the Duty Free in JFK about a month ago. I thought it was too strong tobacco for my taste via the blotter. I couldn't spray it on due to getting on the plane for work and was concerned it would be too strong for passengers. But I kept the blotter in a insert in the galley. I can agree with you in theory, but you have to consider something like Wasser is not from Guerlain family, he's swiss, he started the career in a period of minimalism (before Guerlain his boss was Ellena) and yes, can we talk about that, he creates dozen of fragrances that the property don't want to create. Believe me, he s a genius of non complicated fragrances and you can see this in the special collections. The marketing distribution is totally bad. That s just my humble opinion.

Like Bill Clinton once said: 'It's the industry stupid'. The whole perfume world is infected by 'flankermania'. Even niche brands release 'tema con variazone' (Tom Ford, By Kilian) year in, year out. Let not mention the 'me too's' and 'copy cats'. But there are enough brands left that make good and discerning fragrances and do what Guerlain should do (like it once did): surprise and marvel. Driven by their own standard and vision on beauty instead of being 'infused' by marketing. Under guidance of Thierry Wasser (and marketing) Guerlain has become too boudoir and gourmand powdery, cliché feminine, too glamour and childish at the same time (La Petite Robe Noire). Mon Guerlain is not a scent but 'something lingering in the air'. When you sell you soul to devil (multinational) things like this only happen...see what happened to Yves Saint Laurent. I could go on for hours, but no time and I don't think Thierry Wasser doesn't really care that much. The art of perfume has lost its soul in way, he knows it as well. But like I said enough new brands. Best www.lebienaime.com / www.geurengoeroe.com

U Smells Good, it isabout 71€ online in Germany. In kanada the parfumes seem ro be on the expensive side.

Great take on L'Intense. P.S. Another 810-er here.

LHI intense is pointless if you own the Parfum... LHI Sport is pointless, period.
    An absolute disgrace.
    EDIT: Agreed on Vetiver.
    The best bar none.
Isn't Homme l'eau boisèe a Wasser fragrance? Perhaps not a masterpiece but a great fragrance nonetheless.
LVMH should just let Guerlain be, and Guerlain/Wasser ought to wake the f*** up.

Mandorla for what it is, a Sport, I don’t mind it too much but would prefer that Guerlain not create such stupidity.
