  • Heike Drechsler (née Daute, born December 16, 1964 in Gera) - East German athlete, specializing in long jump and sprint running, multiple Olympic, world and European champion.
    Curriculum vitae
In her career, she was a multiple medalist of the most important athletics competitions. She was the only one in history to win the Olympic gold medal twice in the women's long jump competition. By 2000, she had made over 400 jumps over 7 meters in official competition, more than any other athlete in the history of the sport. The longest jump in her career she made in 1988 in Neubrandenburg, with a jump of 7.48 m. In 1992 in Sestriere she achieved a better result than the world record at that time (she jumped 7.63 m) in the long jump, but this jump was not record due to unfavorable weather conditions (wind speed during the jump was 2.1 m / sec, exceeding the permissible value by 0.1 m / sec). She ended her sports career in 2002.
As a teenager, she joined the communist youth organization Freie Deutsche Jugend (Free German Youth, FDJ), and in 1984 she was elected to the People's Chamber, i.e. the parliament of the GDR.
