Heike Dreschler is my all time favorite athlete, Privalova, Koch and Masterkova are next. Damn the third leg for Germany messed up

Masterkova the 800m/1500m specialist was a fantastic tactician!

Dreschler did not need to ease up unless she misjudged the green triangle as the end of the zone. She made such a rookie mistake for someone so experienced

Oh I think you are right !! Thanks for that. But Heike is a not really experienced in the relay - I never saw her run relays with the old East German team.

This is one of the greatest anchor legs of all time considering the significant headwinds on the homestretch all meet long. Ottey was timed in something like 9.71.

I watched this live as I liked Katrin Krabbe of Germany.
She was fantastic here, only a bad baton change took away the gold medal.

      They still would have lost

Katrin Krabbe was a fantastic athlete.
    Dreschler was great too.

What is so fantastic about being caught on cheating?

David Coleman's commentry is so focussed on the German team that he virtually only mentions the winning Jamaican team in passing.
Merlene Ottey's last leg was breathtaking yet he chimmed on and on about the Germans and how they'd have won but for a poor exchange etc.

Well he was right...and typically announcers today ramble on and on worshipping any black athlete regardless of how the white wins. Jamaican and USA track programs are worse abusers of PEDS than any country in history.

Yes... a poor change... I think German could win same with that poor change... But Ottey was so fast in her leg... a cruiser... and Privalova too. So... honour for Jamaica

She was ousted from the sport for taking an asthma medication that wasn’t even on the list of banned substances at the time. What a shame, they ruined her very promising career and destroyed her reputation

Krabbe var verkligen ett stort straff för hela DDR - Krabbe fick bära hela straffet för hela DDR dopning systemet - fast hon var antagligen oskyldig!

Looks to me like even with a good change, Jamaica probably wins this. The Germans just didn't put enough distance on them, the third leg was the weak link.

Jamaica had a terrible second exchange compared to both the Russians and Germans.

Dreschler blew it big time. Why wasn't Silke Moller Gladisch in the race for the Germans?

    • @ohhiitsjustme3445
      @ohhiitsjustme3445 Před 6 měsíci

I think she had retired by 1991. Most of the late 70s/early 80s East German stars (Koch, Göhr, Wockel, Auerswald, R. Mueller, Gladisch-Moeller) didn’t make it passed the ‘88 Olympics (which is when they started the really clamp down and input very strict drug testing! Flo-Jo also “conveniently” quit after ‘88!)
