      I just switched to R6MII from years of Fuji. I tried every simulation constantly and leaned towards some for certain things, such as Astia. Classic Chrome simply desaturates an image and i dont understand the appeal for the most part. So far i see the Canon as able to have far more accurate colors, with the ability to tweak everything easily. But i usually worked the raw files anyway. The Fuji reds never look red unless you fine tuned the exposure and white balance. Thats a lot of work. FYI i still like the Fuji cameras, but i needed a camera that can focus on everything, all the time.@drbeardo6960

      @@JamesReader Hi James! These days, I shoot RAW almost exclusively (I don't even store additional .jpg on the cards any more). Back in the days, I liked 'Fine Detail' most, and I installed the Technicolor Cinestyle profile on my 80D, which I used on all my videos before I got the R6 with it's Clog3 option. Back then, I also played around with Canon's picture style editor - it's GUI looks a little dated, but it's a quite capable tool to create your own, individual picture styles for a fast .jpg workflow.

    Interesting comparison, as i had both these kits at different times (and wife and i were recently in Portugal. 😊). I find the noticeably larger size of the Canon kit to be a downside when compared to the Fuji…but then there is its lens IS. Hard to choose! I’ve ended up going with a Nikon Z50 (with different dx lenses) for my light travel and everyday carry camera. Biggest draw back at the moment, IMHO, is lack of quality primes that are also light and compact. Hopefully more of the Sigma primes will be released in Z mount.

  • @Muchtoobizy
    @Muchtoobizy Před 2 měsíci +1

    This was a really interesting video for me since I own both cameras but never bothered to do a side by side comparison. I agree with you that the Fuji gives a bit more character to the image straight out of camera. I think this is mostly to do with contrast and perhaps a touch more clarity which you can add in post. The photos at 8:44 show a big difference with the Fuji being more pleasing.
    However you skipped on what I consider one of the biggest differences between the cameras which is continuous autofocus. The Canon wins here which is the main reason I bought it. I do street photography and when there is a person in the frame, it just instantly locks onto that person and tracks them. That makes a huge practical difference to my working style.

    8:50 No offense, but the R8 + 35 is *much* sharper than the X100V. I can easily read "camara municipal" on the right, it's smudged on the left. Detail in the roof tiles and water stain are way better resolved by the Canon.

    Very good comparison, presentation and beautiful pictures! And for most of the people the Fuji images probably look better, because of the in-camera possibilities.
    I had the first X100 when it came out, loved the form factor and vintage look, but never really loved the IQ. I had the Canon 5D MK1 since 2008 and compared the images as I used both cameras. The Fuji X100 always looked more flat while the Canon had a dimensional look. Both cameras died three years ago. I tried to compensate with an iPhone Pro as I was tiered of carrying bulky Camera gear, but then got the Canon R5.
    Long story short - like already 15 years ago, there is a place for both cameras, but now that a Canon kit can nearly be same size (R8+RF28) I would not go for the Fuji again (if not for the fun- or object-love-factor).
    But it depends on the photographers topic. I have a street photographer friend who swears on Fuji and had all the models in the last 15 years.

      Fully agree: R8+28mm is way better than Fuji X100v, especially if you do use video features. I would have prefered a better batterie life, but you can extend it a bit by disabling Wifi (Airplane mode), as annyway I never use the wifi feature !

    Great review, thanks. This from someone who bought an R8 as a lightweight travel camera but would have tried the X100V if they were available.
    I have an R8 and R5 but work in a camera shop where I am asked about the X100V almost every day ! My ex wife works for Fujifilm and as such I am aware of and love their products. I bought the R8 and an RF 35 f1.8 as a lightweight travel / street camera to compliment the heavy L lens clad R5. I have played with the X100’s and seriously thought about getting one for the form factor and simple style, but the lack of availability meant an R8 it was.
    I wouldn’t rule out an X100V but only by waiting my turn in the long queue for them as secondhand prices as stupid.

      @@JamesReader Not seen an X100V in the shop, but they are definitely still there for us to order and Fuji are trying to make as many as they can I am told. I've tried the 'V' as my ex has a demo one - or at least did. I think we have over 100 on back order, maybe many more in each colour. Fuji are fulfilling orders just slowly so there is apparently a 4-6 month wait. We have a secondhand X100 every now and then, currently an almost mint 'F' which is tempting and has unusually been in the cabinet for 2 weeks. It looks hardly used ... not too much difference between it and the 'V' in the real world.
      I haven't tried the RF 28 but will keep an eye out for one to have a go. I have been really impressed with the 35 f1.8 to be fair as someone who has been lazy and used zooms for many years. I'm going totally away from the idea of heavy kit !

    I had an x100s and a 6D. The x100s images are still much sharper and the lens distortion gave a much more desirable result. I had tons of fun using Fuji and learned a lot more with it. But when it comes to working professionally, in a demanding environment a full-frame interchangeable lens camera is always better IMO.
