I"m towing a 2000 lb Casita trailer with my Maverick hybrid. It's a perfect match with low to mid 20's gas mileage. Been towing trailers for years and it is safe, efficient and easily maintains highway speed.
I'm hoping you will see this after all this time. My Mav Hybrid is due to arrive in two weeks. Did you add a brake controller to your Mav to handle the weight when braking. Also did you have the truck re-wired, or did you just use a 4 pin to 7 pin adapter. I am looking at a little trailer similar to the Casita that weighs 2200 lb. I'm hopeful with careful packing of items in the truck instead of putting anything in the trailer will make it safe to tow. Thanks for any advice you may have. 🙂
@@lindatindell3610I’m in the same boat as you. Just bought a pop up camper right around 2,000lbs and I’m scheduled to get a brake controller installed, as well as a 4 to 7 pin converter on my Maverick Hybrid.
My boat weights 1900lbs dry weight. I guess with trailer and fuel I’m at about 2500lbs. I have pulled it a few times with it and it did great.
Yes in Tow/Haul Mode it simulates shifts, it does the same in Sport Mode. I have an XLT Hybrid Maverick and have towed about 1700lbs with mine, it towed great, plenty of power, and still got about 30mpg, went down from 38mpg. I absolutely Love mine. Thank you for explaining the E-CVT Transmission, first review I have seen that actually got it right. Some of the others compared it to an old combine or belt driven CVT like in the Nissans and such.
Thanks Jeff and thank you for commenting. I hope you continue to enjoy your Maverick!
Amazing really. I want to tow a cargo trailer for simple camping conversion, hoping around 1500lb or less. But idk about that CVT towing thousands of miles
Great review! Love mine!
Thank you! Also congrats on your Maverick as well. We are certainly enjoying ours.
I am considering buying one, this helped me. Would be interested in handling going down the freeway with a cross breeze or tractor trailers going by at 80 mph.
Can you please share a link for the 4 to 7 pin adapter you purchased?
A CVT is typically referred to as continually variable transmission. Been waiting for a hybrid tow video!
you're correct Shawn I've got to brush up on my whole thinking and talking while driving thing lol My videos are not scripted and I am fairly new at it. Thank you for watching and commenting. Please let me know what other content you would like to see and we will try to make it happen. Cheers!
@@DirectAutoOutlet You said in your video that you are considering buying a second Maverick. Will it be a Lariet or will you go with the XL, XLT? I'd love to see a hybrid towing a small flat bottom boat. That's the most I'd tow with mine.
Your angle on the trailer is wrong. The trailer is nose high which is a no-no. Learn to balance the load. You can buy a widget which drops the ball down to a lower level. Towing a trailer can be quite dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. That bounce is literally lifting the back end of the truck up, reducing the contact of the rear tires with the ground. BTW I drive an 18 wheeler. Those trailers allow me to slide the tandems (trailer tires) in order to balance the load and I am required by law to do that in some cases.
Great vid!!! Did you mention what the tongue weight of the trailer was?
Tongue weight was less than 300lbs
Love this. Can you include a link of the model of the horse trailer?
Hi Gabriele, the trailer belongs to a customer of ours and she is planning on selling it soon. I performed the video on my way to dropping it off to her so I no longer have access to it. If you would like to contact us and give us your info I would be happy to pass it along to her so that she can contact you and perhaps you can strike a deal or find out more about it. Thanks

Would you tow a 600 mile trip in it fully loaded a trailer as big as that one single axle motorcycle trailer about 2000 lbs?
I plan to however I do have to wait for the occasion to present itself. Please stay tuned and consider subscribing and hitting the bell icon to be notified of all of our future videos. Thanks!
I recently bought a fwd lariat ecoboost and was wondering if you had any ideas or recommendations for a small travel trailer?
Is your maverick equipped with the max tow package for 4000lbs?
ROVE LITE 14FD is about the best size/weight you will find for the 2k limit from a hybrid
@@DirectAutoOutlet no the fwd aren’t 4k towing
My xl hybrid maverick will be used to tow jon boats and a 17 carolina skiff 2200 pounds and quads x2 it will donit no problem, manufacturers say 2k pounds but trust me it can pull 4k to 6k pounds easy, but will kill that battery,s life span before warranty is void and ford does not want to replace battery's, so they slap a 2k tow limit on it. Other then that reason it would have a 6k tow capacity higher then the 2.0 turbo if it weren't for ford not wanting to replace battery's,
Based
I was praying the Maverick would beat my MPGs with my TDI bug towing 2k pounds. I get 30 on hills and 34 on flat. 40 if it's farm roads at 45mph. Nothing modern even a Tesla seems to beat the cost per mile.
Can you tell me what the “tachometer” is doing when it goes in the green areas?
That's when it's using the electric motor to generate power back to the battery while coasting or using the brakes. The brake coach is indicating the braking technique efficiency. If it goes all the way past 100 percent, the friction brakes kick in and efficiency is lost.
@@vincentmarino2223 hmm interesting. Thanks
How do you think a boat just over 2000 pounds would fair with the hybrid ?
It is not ideal if you are on a grade with lots of twists and turns but it can work in a pinch. A larger and heavier truck will obviously work a lot better but it is a trade off. On flat ground and only on occasion I think the vehicle may handle it but for safety I wouldn't recommend it.
A Bronco II was the first vehicle I drove as a 16 year old. I took my road test for my license with it. That thing wouldn’t have been able to pull that trailer and it got terrible gas mileage. We’ve come a long way and I can’t wait to get my Maverick!
bronco ii were easy to fglip
@@bikeman1x11 Yes they were. And even going down a bumpy dirt road could put you in a ditch.
Very true! Congrats on your Maverick I will also be ordering another one once the 2023 ordering banks open again.
Same here ours was the 2.9 v6 and it was gutless. It got about 15 to 21 mpg. if driving down hill lol.
My mav hybrid build date is Jun 20th. I ordered Sep 18th. Maverick lariat Lux alto blue
@@jaydee1313 ordered my hybrid maverick November 14 so maybe I will get a build date mid August compared to your wait time of 9 months.
There's nothing about to I towing uphill to see how much the truck struggle.
Can it tow a enclosed food ? trailer
yes, it can as long as the trailer weight is less than 2000 lbs
Ecvt electric continuously variable transmission! Or infinitely variable transmission!
Most people when they tow will they will be using the highway and driving at 65 to 70 mph. That will give a real world towing MPG.
You're absolutely right William unfortunately all of our trailers at work are heavier than the capacity of the truck and this was a customers trailer we were supposed to deliver around town. Last minute I decided to document it with a video. I plan to do a thorough payload video by packing the bed with 1500lbs of potting soil as well as renting a small trailer and loading it up to 2000lbs and performing a more thorough real world video. Please consider subscribing and hitting the bell icon to be notified of those videos. Those two videos will include highway speeds as well as a steep highway incline as well as decline to see how the truck performs in extreme conditions at max payload and max trailer weight. Thanks again for commenting.
So you can tow the trailer but not the horse's. hummmmm????
It's not a CVT
CVT means Continuously Variable Transmission which this most certainly is. There are a couple of types of CVTs, this one is a completely gear driven version vs a belt driven. Watch Weber Auto to see exactly how it works.
How's that chip shortage with 6% financing rates now? I am aggregate demand and have refused to buy the last 2 years. Pleased to see this slow down start. Paying 10K over for a Maverick was asinine
Oh good so with the Lariat Hybrid Maverick I ordered I can tow a 2 horse trailer without any horses? Such utility!
Absolutely and that's that all! There are a wide array of trailers it can tow empty it's really the perfect truck for doing that with.
🤣 that is funny
Pretty handy for people that just want to tow an atv or two or two snowmobiles weighing around 1500 lbs including the trailer
Just showing how it performs towing 2K lbs. appreciate the video!
