    Love the channel, loved the content, and I respect a guy's need to run a business. But the selling has gotten a little intense lately. There was once a time when I feel the video would have called out the pros and cons of a bench vs roller for single leg squats and the need for setting up a correct height. The approach here was a little sensationalist and just comes across as trying to push your own equipment. Your authenticity and credibility speak for themselves. The hard sell devalues the brand that you've spent so long building.

    The roller point is overstated. If you have a lower bench/plyo box and good mobility you can quite easily reach the floor with your knee. Especially if you place your foot/ankle closer to the edge. This is a decent selling point for your own equipment but let's not mess around here - it's perfectly possible to do it without the roller.

    • @drip369
      @drip369 Před 6 měsíci +1

      It's not quite the same when you can feel the tension in your toes digging into a bench versus hanging your foot over let's say a padded barbell behind you where your foot does feel like it's generally floating

    • @ryancross3065
      @ryancross3065 Před 6 měsíci

      It's definitely not the same, I used to do it on a bench, then started using a roller and it is 10x better, you have more stability/balance which in turn ypu are able to put more intensity into the lift and really focus on it, I don't feel the bench gives the same feedback in my opinion, plus most people i see dont have the greatest mobility, but hey each to there own, do what ever you prefer to do

    The knock on the RFESS is too pedantic, in my opinion, but the roller sure looks nice. I think I also disagree with your take on the quarter squat. I say "think" because it is more nuanced discussion. It doesn't replace deeper squats but I think it is a good in-season tool for joint-angle specificity, or as you stated, transference.

    I really don't think the Bulgarian split squat was named such as if it came from Bulgaria, similarly I don't think the Nordic hamstring curl came from the Nordic lands, they likely came from Greece but it's just what people call them. Same thing with Deadlift Rows being called English Rows and they did not come from England. Same with the folklore of a Romanian kid not allowed to bang weights outside his mom's kitchen window so he only set the bar down after his sets, gently, and we have the Romanian deadlift (people do call them SLDLs so your SLS and the BSS are the same thing (like the aforementioned English rows being aka deadlift rows))

    What would be the modification to split squats when you do not have the Single Leg Squat Stand? I usually use a lower 'box' and have a pad below the knee, but the foot placement on the box or bench always feels awkward... If I have a rack available and set up a barbell low with a mat over it, would that be better than a low box/bench?

    • @GarageStrength
      @GarageStrength  Před 6 měsíci +5

      Switch to dumbbells... or go much lighter. The problem with a bench is that it puts you in a compromising position with heavy load and can be very unsafe... DBs won't give the risk potential, but it won't be as beneficial in regards to loading as a traditional single leg squat with proper equipment... a lower bench could help, just wouldn't recommend that heavy of load.

      @@GarageStrength thanks for the reply... On a side note, I have been using the Peak Strength app for a few months now and really enjoy it!
      I tend to use weight I can completely control, so going lighter isn't an issue. I actually started using the lower box specifically because the bench felt too high and I always ended up searching for a better position, even mid-set lol.

      I hate to compare them, but you’d do best with trying to replicate military training. Practice sets of Bounding(3-5 Second Rushes), running in gear, carrying a teammate(if that’s applicable), etc. If you go to a university, ask your ROTC Ranger Challenge team how they train. If you know combat vets, ask how they train. Best yet, use something like THOR3 or Tactical Barbell.

    • @paintballtennisman
      @paintballtennisman Před 6 měsíci

      I’ve been through military training before and it definitely helps. Modern tournaments are more fast paced and closer to an extreme sport than like a boot camp. I really need to work on explosiveness, agility, reaction time, cardio, and the ability to crawl quickly and stand in weird positions for long periods. The closest thing I thought was soccer and football training.

    Frank Zane (bodybuilder with one of the smallest waists) was a strong advocate against using weighted sit ups and weighted side bends because they would overdevelop the obliques/ rectus abdominis and this can ruin V taper aesthetic physique So basically abs training will make the waist smaller which is good for aesthetic physique but weighted abs training will only overdevelop the obliques which is bad for aesthetics What about single arm farmer walk? Will this exercise overdevelop the obliques like weighted sit ups and weighted side bands?

  • @arnebrynjar3109
    @arnebrynjar3109 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Bulgarian squats aren't supposed to be performed with a heavy load. They were created specifically to be performed with light weights because the equilibrium factor makes it hard to perform. Overloading the Bulgarian squat is dangerous, even the Chinese and Russian Olympic weightlifting teams performs them with light weights. Read the Soviet Performance training from 1970.

      You gotta do what you can. Try to find lower bench or box and put a pad or folded yoga mat on ground... Use Dumbbells for safety or go lighter with barbell so you don't risk injury. If you can only use high bench then go Dumbbells.

You like the content an another athlete sees the gear, they ask about it and get directed to the same content that helped you. I'm currently visiting the gym with my daughter now, and it would be hard to find a better place to develop. Their trainers are all top performers and even when they're working with multiple clients their paying absolute attention to your form, your fatigue, your exercise selection and if they see deficiencies in your mobility they're going to correct it. My daughter was really upset when coach Legend (discus) said "times up."
