You got the Midas touch, man. Every beat you make, no matter the equipment or samples, you make it sound so amazing. This is such a vibey beat, love how organic it sounds
Thank you for saying that. Much appreciated
The MIDIs touch
to keep with the throwback tech theme, I edited this video on my Game Boy Camera!
thanks for watching everyone!
Lol, great job!
the "no headphones? 🤔" meme fuckin got me hahaha
as a phone watcher, i just want to say I appreciate your care and consideration for our inherent lack of bass. bless you sir!
Thank you for your service
it's crazy to think we crawled out of the ocean on 4 legs at some point and now we're making beats on octatracks. makes me wonder where we're going. I appreciate you man, your channel is one of my favorite things on the internet at the moment
I wonder what the four legged beach crawler equivalent to making beats is. Playing with rocks? 😂

Drumming on shells and jamming with bubbles
🧚♂️🎉
@@christophschumacher640 everything’s better down where it’s wetter, take it from me 🦀
I love the concept of using simple, cheap, or minimal synths to punch above their weight. It's the whole basis behind dungeon synth, and midi soundfonts are just perfect for that. Very cool.
MIDI sound fonts are in fact pretty fire
I’m learning
makes me wanna find my old hard drive with all the soundfonts on it. those were the good ol days.
Doooo it
1:54 when the vintage sounds aren't vintaging enough.
This came together so nice 💯
You are a magician.
Ah man thank you. We should start a magicians club
@@jonmakesbeats I would love nothing more!
King's Quest-type beat 🏰 👑 🐉
I feel that
maybe it's because I'm stoned or because this was really beautiful.. either way I love you man, thanks for sharing your creative process with us and inspiring us to see that the potential for a great song sits literally anywhere we care to look.
The “juice hands”🔥🎉🤟🏻🙌🏼👍🏼👏🏻
Never made it look so easy
i grew up with these sounds on my family roland digital upright man, this is such a crazy nostalgia trip for me. knew as soon as i heard the dog sounds lol great work as always
Exactly. I never had one growing up but to this day they’re included in those pianos
@@jonmakesbeats it's crazy lol, i used to mess around with those record scratches jamming with my friends. never realized it was universal until i watched this haha
I love this idea of using general midi cause it makes me feel like I can get back into producing with the little I got
You absolutely can and should
Bro that accordian went hard
In hindsight I might have made a mistake
I used to make stuff with one of those generic early 2000s Yamaha practice keyboard just out of necessity due to lack of gear, and it is indeed quite fun and has a nice sound. The percussion is very beat konducta series-esque. Kind of corny, but it works lol
Gotta do what you can with what you have
that electric guitar totally makes the track. And I think I know where I've heard it before, it sounds like the same sound TIm Follin used on the OST for Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future.
I gotta mess with that sound font now lol
I was listening without video, and I was like whoa wait who is this? Then I rewinded and saw it: ok it's Brad. We ❤ Brad.
Thanks Brad for the midi nostalgia!
Your recent beats have been more melancholy in nature - I dig it.
But how you going to use Roland's midi sound kit without a Roland device on the table? Feeling like the MKII ain't getting enough love.
Why are people so obsessed with me using the 404? No shade I’m just fascinated by it
I don't speak for this guy but for me it's because you're the best at this type of channel and vibe and it's the only equipment I and many others have to do this type sound w/out using a laptop. Would just be exciting to see somone of your caliber use equipment that me and some other are most familiar with❤
But honestly u do u as long as ur feeling good about it I will be 2
5:49 Le Jeanwayne moment 🚬🥖🇫🇷
Bro went absolutely bonkers on the keyboard guitar
Shredding
This was one of my favorite ones because I wasn't feeling it. Stuck with the process, reeled me in and won me over. Very cool to watch.
Love that
that guitar goes hard, another vibey banger!
The guitar 🎸
Gonna need to hear that accordion in a future beat
Back in the 90's I made beats using a Yamaha MU10 tone module, then later a Boss DS330 (which I still have). The big difference was that I didn't have a sampler, per se; I used PowerTracks Pro 3.0's one-shot one note polyphony sampling feature to snatch breaks and play stuff over it via General MIDI.
Today I have a Yamaha MU50 as well as the DS330. The MU50 had a really dope feature where you can go into any drum kit and edit the individual drum sounds, so you could take a snare, pitch it up or down, then add a resonant filter to it (possibly even an ADSR envelope too, I'd have to look) and none of that will affect the rest of the drum sounds.
Now I gotta fire up the MU50 and make something 'cause of this video.
Let’s go
This one really moved me
Mr Krabs at 5:50 😂
The no headphones has me cracking up. I love the way your breaking down the what your doing with a brief sentence about the rationale. Thanks Jon!
Such a fun idea, very enjoyable to watch. I think us producers sometimes get so focused on making a dope beat you forgot to actually just have fun with it.
Also decided to make a Lee Hazlewood cover with the Final Fantasy 7 soundfont. Not sure why but it works
I nearly shed a tear to this beat 🥲🤣
Dawg you don't miss when cooking up some beats.....respect!!
I recently got a few romplers that sound like my childhood and I couldn't be happier. It's just great stuff.
That was special. I felt that.
This is my music class for me
I always think it starts off okay, but then you blow my mind anyway.
I was freestylin off the the Bombay when you were letting it play for a minute there. So freaking good.😅
once again proving its often not what you got but how you use it
Massive midi flashbacks here. Good button mashing man 🙏❤️🔥🙏
bro showin' general Midi some love lol. dope joint! that electric guitar was a perfect added touch lol
Omg I got so emotional when you added the electric piano.
that was amazing
Fire…that prophet x is a good look also.
Wow.
This was entertaining to watch because when I first started making beats in the late 90's this is all most of us had. My parents couldn't afford to buy me no MPC or elaborate Keyboard and back then there was no Fruity Loops, no Reason, so I had to think outside of the box and work with what I had. I composed the music with Midisoft Session and Midisoft Studio 4 then played it back through a program called Wingroove which was a Windows Midi player that contained samples from a quality Yamaha keyboard. It's Electronic Drum Set had a phat 808 and 909 combo in there which knocked way harder than the standard Windows MIDI. I also used Yamaha's XG MIDI player for a time which had better effects like chorus and reverb. Then a few years later in high school I got lucky and my mom bought a Casio Keyboard from Radio Shack that for a $120 keyboard at the time also had a really good sound and surprisingly MIDI ports in the back. So I bought a MIDI In/Out cable and would play directly out to it bypassing the Soundcard Midi all together. If you're someone that's gotten into music production in the last 10 years you guys have it so good since there's tons of affordable and accessible options now.
tuff !
Thanks, Jon!
That poor bastard getting pelted in the face with a dodgeball while youre plunking out sweet and sad piano chords is the humorous dichotomy I needed today.
Loving your youtube channel, bro.
Fantastic, dude!
There's always time for accordion!! 🪗
Beautiful beat!
Killed it
Fantastic vibe ✊🏻
This video is a joy.
thank you!
So emotional. I love it.
We love you man ❤
Great beat, really enjoyed watching!
Yep this one rules
educational Jon much appreciated
It is possible to make good beats with these old midi sounds. You can see that here with you. I have the feeling that these sounds are being forgotten more and more because we need a new splice kit every month with the recurring hi hats, one shots without end.
damn bro !
another hit mr jon
the wizard at work, congrats on 50 uploads
Thanks it feels good
Brad Beats
Ur amazing...unreal
Oh man, some of these sounds takes me back. Nostalgia for real, in the best possible way.
The camera quality and editing just getting, better and better - keep it up!
Thanks. We’re glad the effort is being noticed
Love this. I love being specific with altering timbres on samples and you are so particular ahout it.
General Midi = S Tier
thx so much, you are one of a kind, in an admirative way
killed the beat and the video, thanks joe jebson ❤️
Lovely beat Jon, that guitar was unexpected but 💯 required 😂
Fire Beat! 🔥🔥🔥This makes me miss my old QY70🙃 Stay hype🤘🏾
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dudes an actual wizard
I got a yahama keyboard and tought i just had a keyboard for kids or something because of the sounds it had, now i feel better lol
As a phone watcher i love the bass part
Hahaah
Bro makes any garbage sound excellent. Iam sure he can make a fire beat with just white noise😂
Yoooo I can’t believe they got Brad to do a video on the channel. That’s crazy.
Pulled alll the stops
God damn, every week bringing us glory. Imma have to tap into that Patreon.
We’d love to have you
I've been mulling an album over in my head and the overwhelming key reference point at the moment for it is the MIDI music from Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Something about those sounds has aged so peculiarly
That accordion was slapping tho
I’ve been wanting a general midi portable device for so long. Wish Roland would make a boutique of the Roland sound canvas. Or bring back the iOS app they had they took off the market. Been just sampling my favorite sounds on my op1 for it. Love it for video game-esque sounds
your such a dope composer man!
Thanks Shawn
yes i miss you here! watching all your video like a psycho 😁 when I grab octatrack good price second hand I'll be on your patreon studying.
You are very inspiring
We’d be happy to have you
Both time and space must be made for the accordion
People are saying this
Cool counter missed one!
BRRRRRRR
Love your vids... Dope producer... I'd love to see more S950 beats though..... Excellent channel👑💯
Hahah this actually kinda takes me to Shlohmos Dark Red vibe
Tight as usual, you make me want to hang it up (can't because being a bedroom producer is now imprinted in me).
I'd like to see what you can do with the very first Fruity, CakeWalk, Vegas or Rebirth/Recycle DAW's or their soundbanks.
Always great watching you. Peace and Blissings.
wait, that accordion sounded hard!
i love gex
Oh no! What happened to the Waldorf?!
Great Video again! Thanks for all these octatrack tips! Are you happy with the Prophet X? Is the library worth it? What do you enjoy most about it and most importantly: does it inspire you?
I dig watching your content its basic and informative and easy to learn from....I'm not a hardware type of producer since probably the mc909 and Dr 5, but watching your shows makes me wanna grab something
Just grab what’s next to you. That’s the best piece of gear.
@@jonmakesbeats I wish I still had my 909 but that was stolen years and years ago so now I mainly use daw....
I imagine Joji on this! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for many tips!
I study to your video.
So...that is Spirit Island?
and..Nemo?
Hahaha.
Nah brother this is stragith up unvelievable. When i heard the guitar-solo synth i lost it.
Cant wait till you get into the game soundfonts, final fantasy 7 soundfont beat finna be crazy
