My friend Tommy and I used to play this together and we could never beat the last level. We were so close. Years past and we almost forgot about the game. Tommy passed away in 2015. In his honor and to continue his legacy, me and my brother finished the level for him. I swear I felt his presence in the room when we beat the level. To this day I remember my brother and I screaming at the top of our lungs when we beat it. My mom came downstairs thinking something was wrong when we told her we beat it for Tommy we all broke down in tears. Thank you Tommy for all the good years we had together.

The saddest thing about these words is to see that they have really become empty over the years, nowadays they are just games, forgettable, without the commas.. 😢 While these, memorable and unforgettable even after years, you listen the track and remember at the time which game and level was played, showing the level of quality and attention they really had with the games, everything was lost, now they are all more of the same, without emotion, without realism, dull and nothing memorable.
Man, i miss the Ps2 era games, 90's and 2000 games was the bests with much less in investiments.

    • @quimble2177
      @quimble2177 Před 7 lety +31

williamthebrit well yes. But to me a good WWII game makes sure you know you're part of a squad, that in that squad you are a group of brothers. Most games don't give you time to get that feeling. They just kill them off and you end up not caring because you didn't know them long. For a good WWII game the story should go over...hmm 2 or 3 games, make the characters as human as possible, get you (the player or anyone) emotionally attached to them and then, if the Deva want, get rid of them. Basically I'm saying I want a call of duty, brothers in arms hybrid....or just another brothers in arms really.

No other Level in a WWII Shooter has made me feel more immersed in what was going on during this time period than Arnhem Knights. The music hits you & provokes thought, the Level itself puts you in a almost unwinnable situation amidst the eerie & sombre backdrop of war-torn downtown Arnhem.

    • @grant3933
      @grant3933 Před 8 lety +9

Definently. The music is sombre because at this point in Market Garden, the airborne troops weren't fighting to take their bridge objectives anymore, they were fighting to survive and break out of a German encirclement from airborne, SS and armoured divisions with no support or heavy weaponry because the operation had failed and the British XXX corp couldn't cross the bridges to reinforce them.

I was wounded in the Great War
I still wonder what it was all for
I show no scars or broken skin
The wounds are all deeply within

I saw comrades big and small
I saw some stand, I saw some fall
Some by rifle, some by bayonet
Those scenes I never will forget

I saw men as I went passed
Some were dead some knew it was there last
For some there was no future only past
Some never knew they had been gassed

Some hung on a barbed wire line
For they too had run out of time
Others had done the best they could
Lying in a pool of blood

I saw men kneeling as though in prayer
    Asking God for another day
I saw men embrace each other
For they fought as a band of brothers
    amen

The amazing part is, the graphics weren't state of the art, most characters hardly spoke, and there wasn't a three page bio/back-story on those that did, but you felt a connection to many of the characters and small story moments anyway. The game didn't glorify war, or make speeches on its horrors, it just places you in an area with a mission and some nameless soldiers, and allows you fill in the rest.

TotallyToonsTV Am I the only one here who recently replayed this game and found the only thing really memorable about it was this song?
I knew what I felt as a kid, and that was good, but I feel like another game that tightens things up from this would be far superior. the level this song was in was difficult, but I don't feel like it's a very fair difficult, and that it's more of a crap-shoot.
Unless of course that's the entire idea, but, something still feels off about the level's music being somber, but not me feeling somber with it, instead I feel annoyed while trying to get to the end.
I know for a fact the bullet spongy enemies have something to do with it at least.
I'm just iffy and on the fence about the whole thing that maybe it's just that it's getting rather aged, again, going back to the idea of someone cleaning it up would make it significantly better for today.

This is the level I cried upon once. I played it multiple times over the years, since it came out, but recently, when I puffed the dust over the PS2 and tried to play MoH front line, I had different view of life than before, when I was inexperienced in life...
The music just broke me down.. The horrors of war, the loss, destroyed lives, destroyed homes, killed innocents, killed young soldier, for what cause ? That was horrible, the WW2 was horrible. The life is sometimes horrible. But we must push on. We must endure, we must bring justice and common sense even if it means destruction. Such horrible choices makes us unclean. Leaves us scarred for life, but with the hope that our children will not have to endure the same. It just broke me in to tears.

I remember the intro theme for Frontlines to storming Normandy, to riding and elephant in Rising Sun to find my brother. Even an HD remake of these would be remarkable. Unfortuantly, I dought many would agree.

Unfortunately it's the same with 'modern combat' style settings - I remember when BF2 was still being developed; its contemporary setting was actually being considered risky/controversial!
I think a return to WWII would be good, but first I'd like to see more Sci-Fi settings explored; Battlefield 2142 is in dire need of a remake and Titanfall is just boss.

But it hit me during this: Imagine how the people who survived these situations felt: People you would think couldn't possibly die. They were too good, too durable, they had too much going for them. And yet you get to survive because you were a better shot. Maybe it was because you decided to stay behind covor a moment longer than you buddy. Just imagine having that running through your head while making your way out of the rubble...

I'm hazy on how far allied soldiers fell back after the operation fell apart, but if you read Band of Brothers the 506 PIR were one of the few, and quite possibly only, unit that held the Germans on "their side of the Rhine" as of late October. Captain Winters's ambush of the SS units was on 25 October if I remember right, and Easy Company helped evacuate what remained of the Red Devils out of Arnhem a little later.

I see many comments from years ago, I feel to add my 2 cents. I'm the youngest of 3 brothers, all of whom were fascinated by world war 1 and 2. My eldest brother enlisted in the SA Army then later in the airforce. I too became obsessed with war history, the effects of lives taken, the aftermath on those who survived, families saved and not saved. When I played this game as a kid/teenager and more so the mission Arnham Knights, i felt fully immersed with this song playing in the background, it always touched me to my core. As I grew up I my interest just kept growing, from watching every movie, documentary, war footage, reading books that I consider myself a student of historical war. But today I am finally able to understand why i felt so moved by this song/anthem. Thank you to all who has been able to shed light on what the true meaning behind this song is. All brothers in arms, fallen and not, i will always remember. To give your life willingly. We should all really earn, the sacrifice so many made for us, to live in a free world. Thank you🫡🙏🏻

There didn't need to be any action-packed Multiplayer experience, with people flying all over the place in Exo-suits. Just me spending hours playing the campaign over and over, and it never got old. I don't know if someone cares, it has nothing to do with arnhem specifically. But since im in the ww2 mood, i'd like to talk about a story my parents told me about their parents.... My grandparents lived in Friesland. It's a province in the north of Holland. There was a dike constructed between Friesland and North holland to the west in the 1930s. The Germans checked it regularly. My grandparents had jew relatives in Hoorn. Hoorn is northeast of Amsterdam. The dike was constructed but people couldnt move freely across the former 30km of sea anymore. In 1944-1945, the english, american, canadian, and polish forced moved through Holland and did not have time to free the rest. Although the resistance they encountered was harsh, the northern parts didn't see alot of the combat. Instead they had to starve. All the food was taken, the winter was devistating, and nobody had food. People stole, became primitive and did whatever they had to do. My grandmother biked all the way from Friesland to Northern holland (Naarden, and then it was taken to family in Hoorn) to bring food because my grandparents had a farm. They apparently did this many times. Incredible how people lived those days and did whatever they had to do.
