This was the first rally stage I ever attended at 13 years old. I was 500m further down, remember hearing the cars but nothing coming past, before the news followed it’s way down. Will never forget the thousands of rally supporters,walking miles back to their cars in complete silence. RIP
Such a sad day in that era of WRC, my girlfriend who always kinda loked motorsports but started to really love it since we got into an relationship doesn't know all this history, so, often i tell her about this period and referring to this era as one of the best in the WRC, but then automatically i also come to the point where we lost a lot of greatbdrivers of that era and i get this, sort of reality check or so if you will, the crash of Marko with Michael's death, the tragic crash of Colin and the unfair death of Richard Burns, then you realise that the only few greats of that era still alive are Sebastian Loeb, Gilles Panizzi, Gigi Galli, Harry Rovanpera etc. etc. I have to admit, after so many deaths following each other so fast and the loss of the iconic cars I still follow the WRC but not with the same childlike enthusiasm i used to

It happened quickly. The cars were already into the stage. There were changes made to the system after this event including an emergency declaration system where teams/drivers are immediately made aware of a “no go” even if they’re already out in the stage. I believe it is both audible and there is a beacon installed in each car.
