    Thank you for the install video! I just installed my Diamondback and I am about to start drilling for the front runner rack to be mounted! I will be following along with what you guys did.

      Hey there, we are glad it can help you! One piece of advice we can offer is just take your time with line up and straightening of the rails for drilling the holes! You’ll really thank yourself for taking the extra effort when you go to start bolting the rails to the cover. And one thing we have learned about making the support bars even, is even it up off of separate measurements for each bar location. We went off of the cover at one point and later realized the cover is actually tapered. It’s wider at the cab than at the tail.
      And most all of good luck with your install! We still love the setup!

      @@SunshineStateVikings thanks for the feedback! I’ve started to assemble the the tracks that the bars go on and I have run into something weird. The screws that secure the end caps on the tracks are not long enough to actually thread into the track. Wondering if you guys had this problem at all? If so, what did you guys do or what do you guys thing I should do if the caps won’t be able to be secured how intended?

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  Před 3 lety

      Huh that is weird and no we didn’t have any issues with that. Just went out and took one of our screws out and the threaded section is 1/4” long on ours. If yours are the same maybe it’s possible that the hole that’s drilled into the rail is slightly larger and they just don’t catch as our screw doesn’t thread in very far but for sure catches two to three threads. For a solution I would either try to find hardware that works at a quality hardware store, not a home improvement store (here in Florida we prefer Ace Hardware) or contact front runner to see if they can fix the issue. If all that fails I would resort to using a low quality glue so It could be tapped out if needed.
      Keep us posted on what ends up happening. We are interested to see what happens.

    What a great set up. Love it. I'm actually planning on getting a new 2024 F150, maybe Raptor not sure yet, but I'm considering getting their new Pro Access Tailgate, so in addition to opening the tailgate up and down you can also swing open side to side a center door in the tailgate. The main reason I like that idea is when I put a pop up tent or something on top of the cover and Front Runner rack that won't allow me to open the cover up top, I can access more of what is inside the bed just a bit easier b/c swinging the door open I can get closer to the bed without having to reach over or around the open flat tailgate. But either way, I love this set up. Definitely plan on getting the cover and rack you have there. Just have to decide on which pickup now. Thanks for the video.

    Very Nice! I got the same setup for my 2019 Tacoma long bed: Diamondback HD cover in smooth black with cleats separate (don't like the look of 12 cleats installed), and the Frontrunner HD rail system. I ordered 4 load bars so as to have 2 on each long track for heavy loads and RTT, and not wanting to mount track on the middle section of the Diamondback. So far I really love it; it seems very secure when locked. I've had to take it completely off once already to carry larger items, but I marked the middle section and it went back on very quickly. I've walked on top and carried heavy items with no problems. I spent forever laying out the tracks before drilling, and I managed to get all the fasteners in with washers below and not hitting any of the underpinnings

      I’m kind of the same as you. I think the cover looks better without the cleats, but I’m not sure the difficulty of drilling them in myself since they send them to you in a bag. I don’t really know what I would tie down on the cover more for security but especially if I would ever use a bed rack.

      Thanks! We try to be thorough with these types of videos because we feel it helps others especially when thinking to make the purchase! As for the video we will be doing an update video here with our gear in the next few months and can definitely touch on how it is and how it has been doing. We still love our setup though since the cover keeps the bed dust free. The most difficult things with the cover are due to the space as it is limited with the addition of the cover (any cover, really) but since our tent is on it we don’t take that off to open it up. The bed height and confined space makes us really think about ways to optimize the space we do have in there and it’s fun playing Tetris trying to get everything to fit. 🤪

    Would eyelets be able to be installed to the base rack system? Not the cross bars, but the rails that are bolted to the diamond back.
    If so this would provide a good load securing system for the top of the diamond back cover without needing to install a roof rack atop it.

    Check the alignment before drilling to prevent having to drill large holes. No need for this if you have any mechanical experience.

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  Před 2 lety

      Check double check and triple check! The install will definitely go smoother if you take your time with it. The large holes we drilled where for the jack nuts required if one of the holes ended up in one of the supports that run the width on the underside. It’s most likely avoidable if that’s what your wanting to do with your install, for us the layout up top was more important than avoiding the use of the jack nuts.

  • @ChiefOmp20
    @ChiefOmp20 Před rokem

    I’m assuming this is the HD? The Jack nuts aren’t needed for the SE, are they?

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  Před rokem +1

      Yes, you are right that this is the HD model. We are not 100% sure about the following info, but we believe the Jack nuts should not be needed for the SE version because it has less of the support channels going across it, making it easier to miss the channels and not need the Jack nuts. The front runner rack had pre drilled holes, so that any way you shifted it you were going to hit one or two of those channels with the HD version. Also, diamond back has begun selling the Yakima rack now with the cover and we are not sure of how that one works out with either cover. Last thing to mention her though, is that we have had zero issues with our setup and the use of the Jack nuts.

    I would never put holes in my cover purposely😳

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  Před rokem

      It was definitely concerning but we have had zero issue with water intrusion from the holes we put in for the rack. Holes or not we highly recommend the diamond back cover, it is still one of the best pieces involved with our setup.

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  Před 3 lety

      Of course! The design of front runners load bars are very similar to the design most brands use. They should mount up just fine or worst case they will typically have adapter plates available.

    Great video, brave to modify an expensive new tonneau cover. I noticed there seemed to be a crack on the line-x coating on the driver side close to the cab. I've read that this can be a common issue from Diamondback on the forums. Did you get a discount from the Diamondback Outlet part of their website?

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks, yeah it’s definitely nerve racking modifying it so heavily right off the bat! But it all came out great. Never really noticed any cracks in the coating, but there were a few small imperfections. I think what you saw there was a little bit of running like too heavy of a spray right there. Though it is unfortunate to have small imperfections We feel like to some extent it’s to be expected as most things we’ve ever installed have had small imperfections here and there. Now that everything is fully installed I’ve never seen that spot again.

    • @mikestevens2053
      @mikestevens2053 Před 3 lety

      I am a sample of just one, but I can attest the spray coating is installed very thick and is very tough. My overall impression is of strength and durability; the thing is heavily overbuilt (HD model). In the smooth/black/no cleats configuration it looks sharp, in a rugged kind of way. A perfect match for a Toyota Tacoma.
