"In terms of the homeless people, there's really a complete variety of backgrounds. There are people who are working who will come and sleep here, others who are completely marginalised, there are some who have just recently landed on the streets - they've been on the streets 15 days and they come here. We've got long-term homeless people. There's a real mix, young to old, everything."

"I came because I needed to count how many people there are so that I can make a couscous (dish made from wheat grains) at home and bring it over here. I will get someone to give me hand. I live in the second arrondissement (district) of Lyon. I am proud to be able to give them something."
    12. SOUNDBITE (French) Voxpop, Lyon resident (man) :
"We've fought for the cause in the unions, as have other groups. But there are times when the response needs to be stronger, harder, it merits a street rally. A rally today would be a welcome thing."
    13. Various of Tony and friends walking to former shelter
    14. SOUNDBITE (French) Tony, Homeless person :
"This is our spot, it's where we slept, where we could sleep. How long we did sleep here ? Two and a half months, two and a half months we slept here. We always kept the place clean. Because now it's dirty it's not us, we haven't been here for about three weeks. Frankly we're an inconvenience. Even outside, we get thrown outside, there's something not right there. Don Quixote needs to get things moving, it makes me happy, otherwise no-one will listen to us."
    15. Tony's friends nodding in approval
    16. Tony and friends walking along river bank
    17. SOUNDBITE (French) Tony, Homeless person :
"Even if I am sleeping somewhere quiet, I am not bothering anyone, I am not stealing, well it still bothers people. Not everyone of course, but there are some who should mind their own business, and not point the finger. They need to take a look at themselves. They don't know what we're going through. They need to come, not a day, an hour, but at least 4 or 5 months, so that they understand what street living is really about, to see different stuff, because there are loads of different things going on in the street. There are some who can look after themselves, they'll sell, others who will beg, do seasonal work, others who will act tough. There are loads of people in the world, and we live parallel to the other world. They can do what they like, they're right to have a work routine, 'subway-work-sleep.' It's fine. Everyone makes their own life, but personally, we only have one life, I want to make the most of it. Party on."
