    At the age of twelve my father recommended a
    Roald Dahl book and I wasn’t particularly interested. I can’t remember what I said but it was something to the affect of “this book is silly and I know this couldn’t possibly happen”. So he handed me The Catcher in the Rye and I was hooked!
    I thought here is this kid surrounded by Phonies and I could relate. It wasn’t until I got to the end that I had my first truely introspective look at myself and realised that my dad knew better than me and he had handed me the best possible book that he could at that time.
    I had become self aware! Hypocrisy wasn’t even an idea, but I had realised on an intimate level I was a
    Hypocrite without knowing the word. Self realisation and respect for wisdom became the norm. My thirst is for opposing views and thoughts has never left me to this day.

    There are some important lessons implicit in this interview. His dad didn’t have money during the Great Depression but he was smart and worked hard. This guy was intellectually curious and worked hard-white privilege did not make them successful, their hard work and merit did.

    • @mary-janeowen8238
      @mary-janeowen8238 Před 3 lety +3

      Well careful. He had a helluva lot of money to play with in getting going in life. He's intellectually gifted, ambitious and created his own substantive success. He also was a key player in his own downfall. Unquestionably daddy's millions helped make the man. However part of his legacy will be the gift he gave those kids in prison, and his positive attitude that has helped him rebuild his post prison life in a positive way. Another lesser human would be bitter about the downfall and not able to move on in life. He lost many years of life to courts and then prison. That's not nothing as Jordan might say.

    Great conversation and introduction to Conrad Black for myself. I agree Thomas Sowell would be amazing with Jordan. The thing missing from these discussion with incredibly intelligent, talented and successful people are ideas to counter the threats we face on free speech and totalitarian political policies. My life is in order and I'm very appreciative of having been fortunate to have lived during this time of amazing improvements in human comfort, happiness and longevity. However, I feel helpless as an observer without a platform to influence those ignorant of the danger and potential destruction of the very improvements made possible by the system of individual liberty and opportunity they revile. Heartbreaking to think we can't provide actionable ideas to prevent our ultimate slide into tyranny. We need solutions not just perspective on how we arrived at this dangerous time of almost total cultural hypnosis. The level of deceit is only exceeded by the credulity and ignorance of those either afraid to push back of foolish enough to accept the demand to ignore alternate paths. Stadium size events highlighting what it means to be an American laying out our common goals and opportunities. We are the most diverse and least racist country on earth and if we don't start screaming it from the roof tops we may end up without America.
