I love that you bring some Chinese influence into your work. So many videos from the US are heavily Japanese influenced.

Please do talk more about the Chinese view on bonsai art. I would really love to hear more on this and maybe a parallel between Japanese and Chinese trees of the same species. I do think the Chinese are greatly under-appreciated on a lot of things.
Hi Milton, the Chinese influence is very apparent in your trees. Images from the classical paintings come to mind. Old, mystical, mythical, poetic.

Great videos! You don’t have a lot of stuff on new material . My question would be for small trees, cuttings and starts, do you use the same bonsai soil, what pot size, and how much do you worry about training. I thank you for your wisdom.

Great to hear your tips and for the encouragement. As a beginner, I do find it difficult to not give up as all my trees are young and not very beautiful and I've managed to kill others😢. With so many failures it's great to hear how I might avoid them in the future 😊
Don't give up! I've killed many trees during my 50 years of doing bonsai. I got to where I am today through trial and error and never giving up. Keep going and you will have beautiful and healthy bonsai. If you have any questions, feel free to comment or email them to me and I will do my best to help!
Great video as allways! I was wondering if you had a tip for a substitute for sandy loam? Its not really that easy to come by here where I live, perlite and peat moss is easily avaiable though!

Thank you for your encouragement. Glad you asked…I am about to do a nice CA Coastal Life oak tree which is a volunteer seedling grown in a garden. I have one Valley oak…the leaf shape is beautiful but takes a lot of ramification to somewhat reduce the size of the leaves. It is suitable for larger size bonsai. Stay tuned!

Also, your recommendation soil perlite, Pete moss, and Sandy loam is much lighter than mixtures with clay or akadama or pumice or lava rock. Is the light weight mixture ever an issue, such as holding too much water?
You pretty much have to go look online or where bonsai pots are sold. I bought most of mine from Southern CA importers and at bonsai shows. I bought some many years ago when I was touring China and went to Yixing which is a small town near Shanghai known for its dark clay bonsai pots. Avoid pots are are thin and brittle!
Hi, I see you are using drip watering system or similar in the background, can you describe a bit? What you are using, when? It's possible downsides or pluses against manual watering of your trees. Thanks for the answer ❤

Try your landscaping tree. If you can’t find it, just use top soil!
