      That's a very good question. As I'm growing it for the first time, I left the flower spikes/bracts. Two are still pink, they haven't turned brown/dried off. The third one started to rebloom. What do you use to wipe the leaves? I just got mine and not sure whether to put it in a pot or leave it in the plastic bag it came in for a while...watering quite a bit too

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  Před 3 lety

      Hi, I would leave it for a day or two in the plastic bag to let it get adapted to your room temperature and also, if there are any bugs you will see them first before they spread to other plants. Unfortunately, sometimes it happens that the plants come with some insects from the stores or garden centers. Then you can gently remote the plastic, cutting it. I clean the leaves just with wet cotton pads. But be careful and hold one leaf from the bottom side with your one hand so that it doesn't bend and break. Hope this helps. Is it blooming or does it have buds? :)

    Hi, I also have a medinilla magnifica and it's currently growing under a grow light in an indoor greenhouse that usually stays around ~65% humidity. They're growing just fine but my some of my leaves develop small beige spots on them. I don't know if it's harmless but I was wondering if you know why this happens to medinillas? Do you also know the best potting mix for medinillas?

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  Před 3 lety

      How warm it is in the greenhouse? The beige spots maybe because of the lamps, maybe they are too close to the leaves and it's too hot, or they are burning the leaves

    Thank you for this video! Very nice to see a more recent video about these flowers.
    I just received a plant and it has damaged leaves. Is there any way to encourage new leaves in the same area to grow, if I trim
    It off? Or am I stuck with a damaged/torn leaf forever?

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  Před 3 lety

      I would suggest leaving the damaged leaves, if it's physical damage (I assume). It's better to cut them, when the plant grows many new leaves (which will not be fast). If it's a new plant for you, it may be getting adjusted to your environment (light, humidity, etc.) and cutting the leaves may be even more stressful for the plant. I know, it may look not so nice, but the leaves are there for photosynthesis to produce growth. :)

      I was given one plant like this teo weeks ago, but three leaves had cuts or were very damadged, two of them have fallen off, I really wonder how to water them because some of the leaves are pretty dry, like wrinkled paper 🥺. There are three flowers that haven’t bloomed yet and are like round wrists

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  Před 3 lety

      @@MarionaSeandwave From what you describe, it seems the plant is very dehydrated. These plants love humidity. Keep the soil moist, but also spray the leaves from time to time. If the plant is in a very bad shape, maybe it will be better to remove the buds, as they may take a lot of energy from the plant for flowering. It's better to help the plant recover first and then it will bloom. 🌸 Hope it recovers soon.

      @@AnnasViolets That's exactly what I did these last days and the flowers seem to be very happy and started opening a little bit, two of the very dried leaves fell down, so it may have helped (appart from puting small stones under the pot and watering the basis of the pot + spraying the other leaves with soft water), hope it will do better and the cold temperatures that are coming don't damadge it

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey. I think once a week is not enough. However, it may depend on your climate. They like high humidity. The soil shall be always moist, but also the air shall be humid. You can also spray the leaves or put your plant closer to other plants so that they have humid environment near them, as the water will evaporate from the soil of the plants and it will be humid around them. I would say, if you think the reason is underwatering, water it more and spray the leaves. It shall grow. The leaves would drop off also if it was cold, or if they were exposed to cold current of air, for example, from the open door
