where sir Daniel Fortesque failed in life he succeded in death and for remakes this one is definetly one of the better ones
I hate how there was no intensity to the stained glass demon jumping out from the glass. The silence followed by the heartbeat in the original was so eerie and perfect. Even when it shattered in the end, it was so anti climactic.
I prefer the old one

On the plus side though, the final boss is at least much better.

The game looks beautiful, they did great, my complain is in some details that made some of these bosses iconic, sound mostly.
For example, in the Glass Demon fight, the lack of the heart beating took away the tension and the build up to the threat right until the demon jumps out. The growling, feels like it belongs to another more organic beast, what the first got right is this eerie sound, it was from a creature but nothing that resembles any animal.
Nostalgia aside.
Other than that they really did a wonderful job.

13:07 the reason I like this dragon is that it has a neck the older one had only a floating head coming out of the holes and they kept the voice actors consistent and yes I feel bad for the dragon still case you hit its head and I feel it
They used the original voice clips from the original game, no consistent anything, just recycled lines which is good

@@zeljkovlasic1632 Well, to be honest, for me comparing Medievil and Undertale, everyone would sadly recognize Undertale more than Medievil, even thought, Medievil is in many options better. What i actually see good about Undertale isn't the Game itself, it's really that Fanbase themselfs. Yes, there are Retards without respecting other's Work, but the other ones does have really creative Ideas Like some after Stories or all the fucked up Au's(Alternats Universes). Still, i didn't play Medievil until the short-lived Demo. Also in PS All-Stars was Sir Daniel my Main.

The only thing different between the original ps1 version and this is the graphics and the gameplay from what I saw in videos is fixed up a bit.

That bossfight with the skeleton warriors and the healing chalice... that was something I had not seen in a game ,before.
I find it odd that the player has to use their HP to heal their allies though.

Soul6 it is a remake. They built it from the ground up and remade the game. It’s probably not the kind of remake you’re thinking of but it’s still a remake
Watching this brought back so many happy memories of myself and my family when I was a child. I’m sure this is the game that got me into horror and happy endings in general.

They actually fixed them partially. The camera still has some problems sometimes but it's better than the original.

I think I'm actually going to go pick this up today. It's not reviewing well since it's apparently got a lot of PS1 era jank still present, but I like old games, so I'll give it a go. Never played the original.

@@Thebluedud PS1 era jank is not the only problem with this remake IMO, in some aspects the original game was better, for instance I don't like what they did with the sound effects. The sound design was perfect in the original game but in the remake they kind of messed it up, go see a video of the original stained glass demon fight and you'll see what I mean.
I love that most of the original sounding voices were kept in especially with the ghost pirates, "Is that really necessary? Couldn't we just give him a good tongue lashing and drop him off at the next port?"
I'm glad the Dragon doesn't die. I love Dragons.

Well except for the shadow demons, they were kind of creeps with those faces.

In the remake, when the glass demon comes out of the window, it doesn't have any effect or cause any anxiety, while in the original PS1 version, before facing it, you could hear its heartbeat, you saw a black background and after a few seconds you heard a thunderous sound of glass breaking, with the demon coming out smashing the window. The PS1 version had a much more scary atmosphere.
I'm gonna be honest, in the original game, most of the bosses were immensely simple and easy to defeat. Hell, the Pumpkin King goes down in literal seconds if you fight him in melee. Little disappointing, I have to say. However, the little twists they added to increase the difficulty of each boss in this remake really stand out to me as the VERY BEST changes in the entire game. I'll admit, I died to the Queen Ant several times playing this version of the game, and got kinda salty. And I love that. It gave me an entirely different perspective on this game as a whole, and forced me to re-evaluate how carefully I have to play the level before fighting the boss. To the people who developed this game, I want to thank you for not only reviving a childhood classic, but changing it up just enough to make it feel even more fun.
You really cut it close with the Pumpkin King. 1 HP without any life potions left? Ending it with style, I like the way you think!
I'm pretty sure that last 1hp is more than what it shows, I was in the same suitation with wolf fight, I panic won the fight 😂
The only issue about this game is that is pretty short for today's standards, but otherwise they made an excellent job, recapturing the essence of the original, but adapted to the new technologies, plus some great life improvements and an awesome and smooth gameplay, simply love it!

What epic music? Most of the original songs weren't epic. Just either eerie, sad or creepy. The remastered actually has more epic songs. Just take Zarok boss ost.

Ik zaroks voice actor died this year but did they mix his lines so u know at the start when he says fire it sounds different did he voice that ? And then reused his lines at the end
I also noticed that... That line is very different from the original they didn't even bother to try to match to the original voice, Maybe they lost that original line recording from the original voice or in the begining they wanted a different voice actor but stick with the original but didn't changed the first line maybe?

Wow, I whimsically decided to CZcams search for Medievil and didnt even know there was a PS4 remake (last I touched this series, I played the PSP remake). I'm glad this game is not forgotten but I have to say I do miss the more gothic art style of the original PSX release.
Nonetheless I also have to acknowledge based on this video that I like that they made this remake more faithful to the original than the PSP version was.
You should play the remaster, it is really fun and I don't agree when people say that is not scary, the games were never that horryfing
