    I know that area VERY WELL !! I grew up on LBI, being down at the lighthouse, and fishing for fluke up and down the Jersey coast. I'm 53 and have some pretty good knowledge on fluke fishing both on the rocks and out in the ocean. It's a great place to do some jetty fluke fishing. Seems like you had a good day too. I just happen to stumble across your video and watched from beginning to the end. They didn't have Go Pros back in my day either. LOL
    I have to comment though on your fish handling techniques.
    PROS: First, let me commend you on adhering to the NJ fishing regulations. Keeping the shorts is only hurting the fishery and all too often I see guys keeping undersized fish. Well done !!
    CONS: Get some jetty spikes, some hip waders or boots and a net with a really long handle. Get down there and net the fish. Slamming the fish up against the concrete and onto the rocks is pretty bad and pretty bad for the shorts you're throwing back. The person who posted the same below is spot on! You're not doing the fish any good even though I heard several times you and your buddies telling each other, "Let's get it back in the water quick" Kudos on that BTW !! Also, if you know the proper length, then you should know that each year they keep increasing the length and that there is legislation underway to possibly shut down the fishery for fluke, stripers, etc. until the numbers rebound because the numbers and quality of fish are being depleted rapidly. I'm not trying to bust your nuts, but merely trying to educate so that you and I can keep doing what we love to do. That's to catch "keeper" fluke.
    Love the enthusiasm and seeing a group of guys doing something productive, instead of being a bunch of punks. Tight lines, catch em' up !!! :-)

    yonno u guys were fishing right on a shoal in the beginning then on an old wreak then the third spot u were at the end of a sand bar. so nice u guys knew of those spots another tip is on the other side on the inlet go all the way at the end of the jetty and cast at your one o clock if your facing east its an amazing bass and fluke spot

    Went out on a 4 hr fluke party boat trip. No keepers but had alot of bites, more then I could count! Got to set the hook on these fish better and I am sure to get them next time. I used a light tackle bucktail and teaser setup with a low profile abu garcia baitcaster usually used for bass fishing, its really fun fishing for fluke with light tackle. Leo, you did really well on your first outing with gulp with the guys who fish for fluke pretty frequently. Love the vids Leo, hopefully you do more of these collabs in the future

      They guys were saying in another video that it's hard to hook through a flounder's mouth because it's so bony. Most of the time, your hook point is just sitting in the fish's mouth so you gotta reel fast.

    I was shocked I was nailing them while drifting and not jigging. I'm getting the nuclear chicken color to try. I used molting color and new penny. Also used swimming mullet and it worked great. I used a egg sinker then tied a hook with a leader and let it sit while trolling. Constant action. I'm sold on gulp. I love fishing man. Tomorrow I'll report back with how I do and other colors or gulp products. I caught a 6 inch sea bass on the 3 inch shrimp. I I was like, the bait is half your size you greedy sea bass. I love flounder I think they're interesting as heck.

  • @JamesCasatelli
    @JamesCasatelli Před 8 lety +1

    I think your retrieve is a bit fast for this method. Try slowing down and really bouncing it off the bottom. Mix in a few pauses too, as often times you'll pick up a fish when you start to retrieve again. You could try a 3/4 or 1oz bucktail with either a Gulp swimming mullet or some sort of curly tail on it instead of the 2oz sinker. I've caught tons of fluke this way. Good luck!!

  • @josephbergen1575
    @josephbergen1575 Před 7 lety +1

    Very entertaining video guys! May i offer a few tips to maximize your catch when land/surf fishing? LOSE that hi/lo rig and switch to a bucktail with a teaser with pearl GULP mullett.. Also, try 1-2 oz single jighead with GULP. Guys doing the best from land are using buktails with teasers or just single bucktail and jighead rigs. When targeting fluke from land you want to constantly move a few feet after you make 3/4 casts in the area with no hits. Fluke move around VERY little and usually sit and wait until a bait comes across its nose to attack.o That hi/lo rig wont allow you to do this and has little action. My favorite baits are 4 inch pearl swimming mullet and the white/pink 6 inch swimming grub. Im not a pro and still have much to learn but ive fished this area my entire life. Good luck sir!

    Those are some good eatin' fish. I like to do a drop shot except with the dropper setup as a 1/2 ounce gotcha jig with a gulp mullet and then another color on the drop shot hook.

    You lost that fish bc you were pumping your rod. Steady retrieve so you're applying steady pressre. Don't pump.

    Thanks for all the videos! Just make sure to keep the camera lens clean by wiping it with a microfiber cloth once in a while. Put a drop of freshwater on it to get the salt off, then wipe it dry.

      @extremephillyfishing  Před 8 lety

      Definitely good advice, Kevin. Sigh. My lenses always get dirty as I fish. Either a fish bumps on the case, or water splashes. I need to remind myself to check it more often while fishing. I appreciate it! Tight lines and thanks for watching!

    I went fishing today in a boat and when I was watching your video on your unboxing of mtb and you explained about how gulp was cheaper than impulse baits so I bought a bottle of gulp minnows and I see you use them I lot so I tried it out and I caught a 2 1/2 pound bass on a half inch white gulp minnow lmao idk how it didn't get unhooked cause I fought if for like 2 min lol I was using a super light setup, Ty bae
