Flounder Fishing - SLAYING WITH BACON!!!

  • We were Kayak Fishing for Flounder (fluke) in New Jersey Waters picking through some short fish and the occasional borderline keeper when I decided to whip out the magic bait.. I missed a few bites at first as it was a little different timing the hookset with the bacon but once I got that first fish it turned into a fast action bite and I got my limit of fluke in an hour! This was after fishing since the crack of dawn with no keepers to show... and only catching the occasional sub legal size fluke every so often. I am almost reluctant to post this video as I fear the Fluke population will take a hit but regardless, keep this in mind the next time you are going Fluke fishing. I was pretty sure this would work but I didn't know it would work that well... the only fish the 3 of us caught this day over 20" were on the bacon..
    I was using a 3/4oz Pink/white Magictail Bucktail which you can only find at your local shops here in NJ and the northeast.. Custom handmade finest quality / magictail-bucktails-36...
    I bought the bacon at Wawa on Ridge Ave in Philadelphia.

    I've been using bacon for the last 10 years to catch fish. It was bacon that caught the first fish among our group in a local mountain lake when everyone thought there was nothing to catch and failed with everything else. I think it's the oils, they can really travel in the water. It's my secret bait and it brings me joy to know others are finding success with it as well.

    Bacon, I use to catch winter flounder on bacon. The NY daily news did a blurb about it 55 years ago, when I was a teenager, never tried it for summer flounder. Watching this video brought back the memories. Thanks

    • @joosonkim538
      @joosonkim538 Před 7 lety +6

      Well there are many types of flounder so it's actually nice when people are specific to species. Our winter flounder "sole" up here don't hit jigs. So, if people are looking for information to target specific fish it's good to know.

    • @joosonkim538
      @joosonkim538 Před 7 lety +2

      Glenn Krzeminski.... you can call them flounder. I like how he says summer flounder later in the video, but specific flounder usually have specific names. summer flounder are called "fluke". they have teeth and are very aggressive eaters. winter flounder are called "sole", they have no teeth and have small mouth and eat scuds and worms. But overall there are so many types of flounder and there are not common names for all so call them flounder but use the first part of it as well, whether it be winter, summer, yellow tail, windowpane, etc.....

    Just because they bit on bacon today doesn't mean they will every time. It's another arrow in the quiver, so to speak. Three weeks ago I was killing them on Gulp, for two weeks now all they have want is minnows. Go out to wrecks every time and they will bite mackeral and Gulp combo, or fresh strip baits. In the back it's different every day. Last year I had live mullet, minnows, peanut bunker and spot that I cast netted the day before. Three guys on the boat and we all tried something different throughout the day. All 18 flounder we caught were on minnows, they would not touch the other three live baits. Best vid yet Sea Money, thumbs up!

      We've been using bacon rind in the uk for many years, try using just the white fat in long strips just hooked in the end so that it moves in the tide giving it some lifelike movement.And used this way it can gently be used from the shore in cast and retrieve , a bait that is now seldom use but used properly can be deadly

    I just want you to know. I saw this video and a couple days later was surf fishing a tournament on assateague island. Well I told my dad about this. Bacon for flounder. So the second day he brought some bacon well we used it and my uncle caught a little Bluefish on it. Then my girlfriend who wasn't fishing the tournament got bored so I decided to rig something up for her. She put on a double bottom right made for flounder and on the bottom hook I out a piece of bacon. And first cast right in the wash she cause the biggest flounder of her life. 19 1/4 inches LMAO. So thank you for this little. Bit of knowledge it did come in handy. FYI she would have had the largest fish.

    So, down in my parts you have to let the flounder eat it for a second before you set the hook. You would probably get more fish this way. This is the saying we have in alabama, "if you feel a vote from a flounder set down your rod, light a cig, give it a few puffs, put it out, then pick up your rod and set the hook."

    I've pulled a lot of flounder out of Narragansett bay since the '60's. We use "pork rind" which is bacon with the skin still attached.
    Might want to give it a try, it's bacon, only sturdier.

    what you need to use is a thick bacon that is called tosino sold in Spanish markets and is very thick. it won't come off the hook.

    Tip: To keep from losing fish, place a small treble hook on the jig hook before adding the bait. Result: More fish in the boat!!!

    • @BklynPete1
      @BklynPete1 Před 4 lety

      No way a treble!!!!
      Every short he caught, probably 5-1, would end up dead....trying to get a treble out of a fluke = no fun for you or the fish.

    YOU have now inspired me...I'm gonna try Bacon on Redfish in Jacksonville FL. (after watching this, I went into the bait shop, walked over to the bait freezer, and yelled at the owner, "where's the bacon??") Oh we had a laugh....then I told him I'm trying it on bull Redfish. We'll see, if so. add bacon video's all around. I'm letting everyone know, so you ought to get more views!
