I definitely would not attend an acotar ball unless perhaps it was free and I felt like having a fucking giggle. A generically fantasy themed ball, though, that sounds more like it, though I’m not good at socialising and might just get bored and/or overwhelmed and leave. I think having “main characters” is weird but I think it would be fun if perhaps the staff in attendance had at least some baseline agreed-upon lore, even if that’s just idk the name of the queen of the realm supposedly throwing this party or something. Very little effort, mentioned in passing, wouldn’t detract from anyone’s experience or make them feel secondary but would I think make things a little more immersive if there was at least some through-line of consistency.

My Instagram started bombarding me with ads for fantasy balls, and ngl I got a bit tempted to attend one. I think they have the same appeal as a convention or a LARP event where you can dress up in cosplay and a lot of them have like sidequests, activations, photoshoots, a host directing the event, etc (But they are so darn expensive??? Paying 200-300 euros is a bit too much for me lmao). But the ACOTAR-themed ones are a bit too cringe (maybe because I despise those books), especially because the contracted cosplayers won't ever resemble how the characters are described in the books (who are as earth-shattering, mumbo jumbo kitkat otherworldly beautiful fae) and the production looks shoddy...
Now that I think about it, I think an Under The Mountain Masquerade could work, have Amaranth be the host, and have a performance at the end of the night where she curses everyone. That way you get rid of the character cast and the hired dancers can do their jobs as party hosts lol.

I wouldn't go to these themed balls, especially for such a badly written series. And especially since it's just a conduit for uncreative, albeit sometimes somewhat titillating, softcore porn scenes.
I think you should review Twilight! Imo I know the thing to say back in the day was 'at least it's a better love story than Twilight', but these days with sooo many of these booktok favs no ... they're not a better love story than Twilight 😢, they are trash and even bella would cringe from this toxicity and shit writing 😅. Some of these authors WISH they could be as good as Stephanie Meyer....and that's such a low bar!
After that, maybe fifty shades series because it's a classic at this point. Read it like a comedy and it's funny 😂

I've actually seen these events on social media. It does seem cringe.
It's a fantasy reader's joy to think of ballgowns & elegant parties. However, as someone who hasn't read those books with no desire to, I don't think that those events are specific but general fantasy themed. People who make their own costumes are terrific. Think that the prices are outrageous.
You would hope the quality would match.
