I always find that turning up the Gain actually makes it a lot easier to hear any imperfections in my playing. I never got the whole "Crank the gain to hide mistakes" thing...

i use dunlop max grips....maybe when i learn how to play ill move to jazz 3's
I use black tortex jazz lll's or the "flex" kind and I gouge them with sandpaper so I don't drop them
They work for me, but I am a Jazz player
