- This French CanCan comes from a compilation film of Music Hall acts made in the UK in 1943. It has never been sold on DVD or VHS as far as I know and has only been shown on TV once in the last 20 years.
From all the can can videos I've seen through the several hour long search this is the best I could find so far. Great "kicking", atmosphere, just everything.

It’s crazy to think this is was of the few real shows and entertainment around and that was it. No tv no movies barely any real pictures or recorded music. This was it and you’d be lucky to see it maybe like once or twice in your life and that was your idea and memory of entertainment on a grand scale.
This video is absolutely magnificent and a brilliant history footage.
This little film clip is fantastic. I've watched it two dozen times. This is a high-spirited, high-kicking, athletic performance. The guy in the top hat is a crack-up! These girls are dancing and kicking like crazy, and he simply walks out on stage and offers a little challenge. I love the period costumes. Compare this to any other Can Can video. This is the best!

I bought this film on CD a few years back. The quality of the print is a little better, but not by much. Nonetheless, I still feel that this is the best Can Can on the internet, and probably ever put to film.
I agree this performance is splendid! But did you see the cancan scene from 1952 movie moulin rouge by john huston? They dance a bit more sloppy, but they use many more signature moves and wear the correct underpants and just capture the essence of the dance very well. Hustons Version is my favorite :)

Fantastic!The dancers make it look so easy, but it actually requires a tremendous amount of strength and flexibility to do what they do-try it yourself. Kick your leg as high as you can in the air, then hold it there.;)

What most people do not know is that this dance was first performed on stage at the "Moulin Rouge" in Paris. What made it an immediate hit was the music, the girls, and the fact that the girls wore no underware. Now, when you see this dance being performed today, just imagine what it would be liike if the dancers wore no panties.
I think those are quite well known facts.
The girls wore underwear. Only, the underwear at the time was not closed at the crotch.
Ahh I used to love watching this when I was a toddler haha! My grandad used to put it on repeat for me lol and I fell off my lil chair 😂

After years of having to wear dresses at school as a kid, I always just wanted to lift up my dress on the playground once in a while. Why? Just because I could I guess. One gets tired of dragging around those big skirts. Can Can makes it a whole lot of fun and more.

This version is very good, be even better in colour but the it was filmed 66 years ago, pretty daring even for that time. I like it very much.

I like this video because it is origonal Black and white and was done in the year I was born.
@WebsiteGuySparky Actually the song is called Infernal Galop (From Orpheus in the Underworld). But it is known as the song for the can can dance :)
The 'song' as you call it, is the cancan from Offenbach's operetta 'Orphee en Enfer', a CD of which you can buy from any record shop.

Jacques Offenbach's Galop Infernal in his operetta Orphée aux Enfers (Orpheus in the Underworld) (1858) IS the most famous Can-Can dance music. at 1:12 I do believe that is the great composer there on the stage! He takes a bow for his music I assume.

It is difficult to see on what count the leg is fully extended. Watching this, I often have difficulty synching the music with the dancers. It looks though t like the kick is a full 1,2,3,4 process, the actual kick on the 2 - am I right?
