Harry Cripps was a truly formidable figure on the pitch.

The Scotland v England game actually finished in a 3-2 win to England. It was played at Ravenscraig park , Greenock. It was Rose Reilly who scored from the corner.

I went away to Norwich that year and it was in December 1972 not 1972. We lost 0-2 at Stoke the following week and then 0-5 at Palace, which was Frank O;Farrell's last game. I was still at school but still went home and away. Tommy Doc took over just before Christmas and we had Leeds at home which ended 1-1. Just for good measure, David Bowie played the Hardrock in Stretford.

Too much football on TV in 1973? Must have been the highlights football because you could count the live games in those days on the fingers of one hand (outside the World Cup).

The FA Cup/ Scottish Cup/League Cups and the Home Championship were the only domestic live games I remember.

Classic chauvanist comment after the report of the women's international. How times have changed
