How Vaping Went Mega-Viral

- Vaping has taken over the world in the last few years. I've always wondered what made people so interested in vaping in the first place. Was it the nicotine? Or was there something else behind it?
Well, looking deeper into why Juul has nearly half a billion dollars in fines to pay for its marketing practices, there's a lot that most people don't really know.

In American schools, everyone vapes to the point where you cannot avoid it. This really needs to be brought to light because our parents/school donât understand/wont address it.
Itâs because they say itâs flavors but itâs actually just lack of proper parenting.

What I think is the biggest risk of vaping is that you can do it quick and on the go.
With the cigarette you have to commit yourself to 1 whole cigarette. With vaping, you can just take a puff and then continue whatever you where doing.
I cant imagine how tempting it must be to think "oh year just one quick hit" you can do that basically all the time
You mean something like crack or meth; because its exactly that.
This is actually a good point i havent thought of regarding my own habits. If iâm gonna smoke a cigarette, i need to be in a situation where I have a good 10 minutes free time and a suitable location (outside, light or zero foot traffic), and then some allotted time to return to wherever i was before smoking. Time to wash my hands or get a drink. I canât sneak a cigarette in at my desk in earth science, or pop into a restroom stall to smoke an entire cigarette, or light a cigarette and take a singular drag and put it out at a table in a place of business before any employees notice, all things you can 100% get away with with vaping. Not arguing âtherefore smoking is better and we should all smoke cigarettes insteadâ but like. Vapes are like iphones, like little portable addictive devices in your pocket everywhere you go, available whenever you need a lil instant dopamine rush. The ready constant availability is kinda crayzay
I agree, when I smoked before vaping I could easily resist smoking for a while so didnât smoke that much. Vaping I was constantly doing whenever I was in a place appropriate to do so and got incredibly addicted. The withdrawals from vaping were 10x worse than when I had quit smoking as I was much less addicted
When I was in active addition, I was waking up in the middle of the night and hitting my vape. Horrible.
@@bellabrown7601 damn that sounds exhausting, hope you are doing better now!
As someone who just recently switched from smoking cigarettes to vaping, I can say that it is also appealing in the fact that with cigarettes, to have one, you have to take about 8 minutes out of whatever your doing to have the smoke. With vaping, it's as easy as taking a puff whenever. And vaping won't stink up the place like cigarettes do
But wouldn't it be suspicious when they smell watermelon in the bathroom and see air coming out of the stall?
@@ezrothkusosroy in womens bathrooms, especially at schools, people use body sprays, perfume, gum, etc. so it's even harder to tell if the smell is from a vape. and the smoke quickly disperses.

The biggest problem was the US government severely limiting reputable brands such as Juul and Vuse. Opened up a pandoraâs box of disposable capes which have far more dangerous ingredients and less regulations. Also the flavoring ban is a complete joke. You donât magically stop having an appeal towards flavors when you turn 21. Stop punishing legal users, go after the people who allow these devices to end up in the hands of minors.
Juul made readily-concealable devices - at an INSANE 50 mg/ml of nicotine - widely accessible to teens ! Leading to the "teen vaping epidemic".
Their Silicon Valley "We'll take over the industry" Hubris led to all this.
As a result: Other Vape manufacturers (much lower nicotine levels)- who opposed selling to underage kids - are now having their flavors (and businesses) legislated/regulated out of existence ! XP
Definetely. There was a huge hypocrisy in regulation when they said flavored vapes would lead to underage vaping but yet no one bats an eye at the cornucopia of yummy flavored alcohol thats been around and marketed forever.
All regulation did was get rid of small businesses across America, people who genuinely cared about the industry and replaced them with companies that had enoug capital to be regulated -- companies that still are primarily bought by teenagers and young adults -- vapes made in a factory in China that actually do make vaping unsafe and more ecologically destructive with all the lithium batteries used for disposable vapes that just get littered everywhere.
Also, can someone tell me how all these middle schoolers in the comments are getting vapes?
Isn't it easier as well to just not allow minors to buy them in the same way that they can't buy cigarettes?

Yeah, vaping in general (especially disposables) has a more addicting effect to it than cigarettes. I can't go but roughly 6 hours at the most without nicotine of some form or else my mentality gets really bad.
Vaping is a HUGE problem in here in schools in the UK. At least half of the people in my year group vape at least regularly and many people share vapes which, during the pandemic, was obviously a huge problem. Also, many vape stores in the UK use legal loopholes to freely give away vapes to kids (rather than illegally sell them) and get them hooked
I have not been in secondary school for a few years now, it wasnât as big 4 years ago. Iâm just curious are people constantly doing it at lunch outside? Like youâll look around and see someone doing it? Or do people just casually smoke them in the corridors? Or just in the toilets? Literally no reason Iâm just nosey lol

What legal loopholes
Peer pressure among teens is why it's so popular. In almost every highschool in the US at least 30-50 percent of the kids vape if not 80% like the highschool I graduated from last year. When all of your friends are vaping, it feels like your being left out or your less cool which just leads to more people vaping and that peer pressures even more teens and it's a positive feedback loop.
it really feels like that man
Negative feedback loop in this case.

For once the EU/UK got regulation spot on, no advertising beyond NHS locations in the UK is allowed and its always as a method to quit smoking (so very bland/dull), premixed eliquid is limited to 10ML bottles (you can buy "shorts" which are larger bottles but they contain no nicotine so you have to add your own) and the max strength is 18MG for normal Eliquid and 20MG for salts (or 2%), disposables are an issue in the UK now however as they are a huge e-waste issue. On the whole vs smoking I was spending ÂŁ50-ÂŁ60 a week, now I spend that a month on eliquid and vape using larger mods (lower strength nicotine, big clouds). Vaping has increased the number of young people consuming nicotine by around 5% but, and this is key, smoking is lower than ever. I just wish people would accept its not healthy, but it is less dangerous (at least 95% according to Public Health England).
100%. Thanks so much for sharing. Looking back, I should've covered how major a reduction there has been in smoking with the uptick in vaping. Nonetheless, lots of great data in this comment!
being from the UK i want to just explain, yes the maximum nicotine level legal here is 2% but thats a very loose law, almost all corner shops sell 5% disposable vapes (50mg nicotine) where a cigarette is 12-18mg of nicotine. As well as this, most kids also buy actual vapes like Smok Nord's / Novo's etc and buy 5% nicotine liquid because although its illegal to sell it in the uk, people just order it from Afinix (an american vape brand). I believe the vaping epidemic is even worse in the UK as its standard to see 11-12 year olds vaping
Uk needs to ban disposables outside of hospitals and possibly ceramic coils, otherwise in terms regulation the UK is spot on
Facts
@@benfarryt Sadly itÂŽs getting more and more restricted. By the planned taxed here in Germany Vaping will by 2026 be more expensive than smoking. So its likely going to go back to mainly tabbaco and vaping is going to mostly dissapear again. We can all thank the big tobacco complanys who have their fingers into the disposable market for that, which is because of the very small amount of liquid inside not going to be impacted in the way normal vaping will be. This doesn't address major reasons why students start using drugs. A lot of times it attributes to not having proper parenting and having a toxic environment. My parents taught me well about the risks of drugs and etcetera yet I still ended up doing them, mostly because of depression, undiagnosed mental illness, and abuse from my parents. And once you start talking to people who actually do drugs or vape, it's all similar stories. Nearly everyone I know from school doesn't "vape because it's cool." It's almost always attributed to the toxic environment around them, and drugs are used as a form of escapism, freedom, and rebellion. I casually do drugs as to not get too addicted, but I understand why others use drugs to such extent whenever I go over to their house and see how they live.
This is why I am not against vaping. In many of the cases I know, including mine, it's either vape or die. I've lost too many of my friends to s*icide. That's why I don't snitch on the plug selling in the alley, or why I'd let someone take a hit of my vape if they ask, or direct them towards my plug if they want to start. I would rather they vape than do worse drugs.
The lesser evil is still evil. But you do have a point, in that context.

The flavors are a plus but their removal will NOT make them quit. Also the anti smoking ads SUCK. They need to just make smoking look cringey and ppl will quit.
Not to mention that black market dealers will fill the void.
Not to mention they lack proper parenting!
â@@Razor-gx2dq This. Underage vapers are a problem sure, and sure we should tell those minors who vape that it's bad for them. But if they are addicted, they shouldn't lose access to it entirely. Yes, I might get hate for this comment. But what's worse: a kid vaping and not affecting other's lives negatively, just puffing clouds outside and minding his business, or the same kid having to result in black market vapes that could be filled with god knows what, and get popcorn lung or worse? A nicotine addiction isn't funny nor cool, so why limit the kids who are severely addicted to get their fix by buying black market vapes, since the government has a lack of sense? Flavors aren't the appeal (to most kids), it's to look cool and fit in. Every high school in america has at least 20% people vaping. Kids want to fit in, and I personally don't want a child having to get a heart replacement because they inhaled something highly poisonous inside a fake vape. If the kids want to ruin there life, sure, but let us have the last laugh when in 20-30 years they are dropping dead. Fakes aren't and won't be checked by any drug administration, as long as the kids are acknowledging that their vapes are real, and is not actively annoying others (blowing clouds into peoples faces, etc) then I don't see a problem. I've walked past different type of kids who vape: the ones who are polite and just do it because they wanted to fit in and now acknowledge that it's a problem to them, blowing the opposite direction or just not doing it around me or others, and the ones who just don't care, blow it in my face, pout and be disrespectful. I don't have a say on the children and what they do, but at least (some) kids have decency to not do it in front of me or other adults. And those, are the kids who I don't mind them vaping. They could be smoking cigarettes which are 98% worse.

How do you get vapes?
@@hoponadoptme some places dont ask for id and just sell to youngers thats how i get mine or people use fake ids but it is sad the amount of places sell to really young kids from the lowest of 11 its not a habit you want to get in too ,and trust me its a hard habit to get out of and im in the process if trying to quit these are just my experiences in england
While I can agree with itÂŽs problems, you should also go more into the positives that do definitely exist. I started smoking with around 19, due to stress and peer pressure at work, and it was bad as hell. Really got on my health, always out of breath. Then about three years ago I found vaping, and it really changed a lot. It still is definitely not good for one, but infinitely better than smoking. I did not completly stop, I enjoy my small stress relive in a stressful life to much, but I have reduced the nicotine to a very low degree. And all the health problems related to me smoking have went away. I donÂŽt have a weight on my lung, cougth or feel exhausted anymore. It really made my life better and I am very happy for it. I hope that no one just starts, but if you smoke it is such a good alternative that can help get slowly away.
Yes what you'd said is very valid and thanks for telling yours, but I'd argue he mentioned the positives fairly well and the main point being how most people didn't smoke before using it so they're not using it to control their bad habit they're just starting a new one
You will realise if you stop completely, your heath will improve further. Props for quitting smoking though
@@alpheendomination Still working on that. Nicotine is a nasty bastard. But I am whittling it down evermore.
@@theexchipmunk Good on you! Yeah nicotine is something you don't realise how addictive it is until you try to quit genuinely
11:39 I'm in the UK and I swear I've seen juul/vape ads before on billboards or on bus stops
Iâm 15 and my grandfather is by far the biggest influence in my life and he taught me that how he lived to 98 and smoked cigars since he was 16 is planning on smoking one so cut out a time to smoke and the be as productive as you can as nicotine can help you work but limit youself to one a day at most so just by planning when you are going to have one it helps a lot I rarely smoke cigarettes but a cigar every now and then before I study for a test is great
Why would you ever smoke cigarettes?
@weird flex i love the taste not quite as much as cigars, but I still love it, and I know what's in it.
â@@weirdflex8158there's actually evidence that it can improve ur grades

ive been vaping for abt 3 months im already addicted and when ever i hit it i dont feel the micotien no more so i hit it more to try get that buzz bc i aint had one in ages and now in 3 months i went from 1 elfbar a week to 1 elf bar a day
This was so interesting! Such a great video
underrated channel
incredible video!!
thanks sara!
This was a great video and you went in dept but honest like your other videos about creators better
No worries - tons more Creator videos coming! Always fun to experiment tho. Appreciate all your support!
it is really sad because im a 8th grader and their are people vaping in the bathrooms. this needs to be addressed
damn
You are video so clean easy to understandâ€
Thank you!! Glad to hear that :)
I like these types of videos alot
I used to smoke cigarettes I started vaping and have never touched a cigarette again. It's good if you wanna quit smoking but it's not adviced if you're not a smoker , it's addictive as well
Here's the thing. Adults like candy, fruity, and pastry type flavors too. Flavors in and of themselves are not marketing to children, there have been some shady things done by certain vape companies, but the majority of the vaping community would tell a non smoker never to start, its just not necessary. I've been vaping for around 6 years, i make my juice, i make my coils, there's no crazy chemicals and the 2 only other ingredients are recognized as safe to inhale, propylene glycol, which is in tons of things, is also used in some inhalers and breathing treatments. The other, vegetable glycerin is what makes stage fog. the flavorings and nicotine themselves are really not harmful at all, in moderation.
I think, the rise in teen vaping is just because its far too easy to access, to hide, and to get a pretty ridiculous buzz since those easily accessible devices usually have anywhere from 40-60mg of nicotine. Salt nic isn't just smoother, but also faster, and more easily absorbed by the body. i use around 8 mg tops of regular nic in some of my devices, but usually closer to 3. if i use over 18mg salt nic i get headaches and sometimes a heavy chest/tight lungs.
Vaping isn't the problem. it's easy access and astronomically high nicotine levels in these disposable, janky quality devices
Agree. Started vaping only for a flavor, and to have a reason to go for a walk while working (desk job in engineering). Before only smoked shisha (or water-pipe), also only due flavor, never smoked regular cigarettes - hate taste. Never surpassed 6mg nicotine in my own DIY mixes. Would agree that easy fix to this could be less accesable single use vapes. So therefore - vaping is only for niche who likes to be bothered by changeing coils, cotton and mixing their own e-liquids. But - as we know due "save the kids" soon all nice flavors will be banned - and most people will go back to burning regular cigarettes.
I smoked cigarettes and weed for 8 years. Tried vaping and could never get into it. Then I tried disposables and they were the only things that got me to stop smoking. I exclusively used them for quite a few months and just made the switch to a proper refillable vape. I'm now way more addicted to nicotine than I ever was smoking but I couldn't have stopped without disposables
@Princess Skies that's another big point. They're so easy to use, and so high of nic, it's almost guaranteed many will take that and drop the tobacco, and end up in your position, where no vape weaker than salt nic will work.
You gotta trial and error, find the setup that actually works for you, good flavor, nic strength and throat hit that suit your use, and that you can step down over time. Most other devices take more work than a disposable I admit it, but never more than 10-20 mins to get things cleaned up and wicks or coils changed out and set up fresh. And it's generally easy once you get to know the device, and a person would be immensely more satisfied for having spent the time.
Most shops these days are pushing trash quality, or outdated tanks and other atomizers, so it's no wonder so many people have a bad time with the learning curve. Even a pod system with replaceable coils and refillable pods would be far better that dispos, so you can actually fine tune the nic strength you need, and taper down when you feel able, to eventually quitting entirely if that's what you'd like
They are a massive thing here in Australia too, I see kids like 12 years old starting. I have vaped before but I personally dont get addicted to it
tbh it shows how history does repeat its self even if its a little thing in many lives.
This needs to go viral
Appreciate that so much!
In polish high schools and even some elementary schools there are places called by students smoke place (polish - palarnia). In my city some highschool students made a tik tok trend "day X waiting for kizo(famous polish rapper) on TM smoke place"
people seem to forget that there are nicotine free vape juice available there
Very true!
Then what's the point you are just destroying your lungs đđđ
I want to start vaping because i smoke a lot of cigarettes (a pack a day). But i cant get on it, i just need the taste and smell of the cigs, i dont feel statisfied after vaping. Anyway i will try to get on it. It isnt healthy too but 95% healthier than smoking
I personally have a lot of friends that are vape, smoke, and dip but i personally never tried it a SINGLE TIME and never plan on doing so, im 100% percent substance free and never felt like trying it
You should for sure do one on the difference of effects on your health between a dab pen and a joint
Started vaping my senior year of highschool when juul came out. Since the the age to buy them was 18 at the time, a lot of people in my grade had them. I stayed away from them for a little bit but Iâll never forget when my cousin asked if I wanted a hit. Shouldâve said no right then and there bc I fell in love with the buzz I got. For the next 6 months I became a social vaper and only did it when I was with my friends. I eventually bought my own and was the 2nd worse decision I ever made. Tried to quit a few times but only went a few hours each time. I beg you guys if you have never tried it donât, it is not worth it.
In New Zealand I was never marketed e-cigs, instead it was marketed by the cool kids of my school, I tasted the vape he had, went home and ordered it online
the fire alarm in my school goes off at least every 2 weeks due to people vaping now. it hardly ever went off 3 or 4 years ago
i started vaping september 2021 after a friend recommended it to me. i quit yesterday and am trying to hold out
im in 9th grade (14 - 15) and its over 35% of my grade who vapes. it is so annoying because i just want to live and ive got guys blowing smoke in my face.

one thing iâve always hated is when non vapers and non smoker try and âeducateâ me on vaping and smoking, but in this u actually did research and managed to educate me because i didnât know much about the marketing side of it (also never vape thc carts, they contain oil instead of water based liquid like vape juice, and inhaling oil causes pneumonia so please donât do it)
As a long time vaper and current vape shop employee, I was pleasantly surprised at how informative & non-biased this video was.
Vaping has definitely been a very big issue in terms of underage use, but outright banning flavors and the like is not the answer. Vaping has personally helped me get away from pack-a-day smoking, and not smoking all together, but the new issue I have found is that I'm not addicted to the nicotine - I use the lowest nicotine available around me, 3mg - but the action. The action of having my mod in my hands, blowing clouds and such, I am much more addicted to.
I'm sure this is also attributed of needing something to do with my hands at all times (ADD?), and once I move on top another job that I am not surrounded by vaping, I'm sure I will kick my habit.
youre probably are addicted to the nicotine and you just think it's the action - like how sugar is actually a highly addictive compound but everybody thinks they just like the taste. also pls stop vaping
absurdly underrated
Really appreciate that :)
im on 0% nic rn and im proud to say i thought about going to buy a new vape 3 times and those 3 times I ended up not going to the smoke shop LMAO
Iâm at 3% nic
As someone who lives in the uk it is so common that a student vapes.I myself in yr9 almost 90% of my year that I know of vape.Even yr7s that come to school vape.If u donât vape now you probably will from the peer pressure.I myself have never smoke but the amount of peer pressure Iâve been given to do it is so immense. The only reason I donât vape is because of my strong will to stick to my morals but most people arenât like me and give in
i have also had this exact experience as im also in the uk and its very hard not to fall for the peer pressure which i did and now am a constant vaper which is sad as i remember telling myself that i would never smoke vape and as you said most people do give in which is what i did and i completely regret
Very common here in Australia too. Iâm in Year 9 this year and almost everyone in my grade vapes, so much that some students get others in trouble by thinking itâs funny to blow the vape air onto other students clothes.
Iâm okay for now since I have no friends but thatâs a worry for later when I dođ
bro luckily I basically skipped it (well I didn't because I left a year ago) but in 5 years imagine whats going to happen
this video needs to be spread becouse A LOT of people dont even know the bad side on vapes
This is a good video.
Iâm 14 and never vaped or plan to vape but I canât believe how many people my age and younger are doing it, I have a friend that goes through 2-5 vapes a week
2-5 bro đđđ

2-5 in a week???? thats terrible for the environment omg...do they vape while sleeping aswell bcus ive been using the same vape for a month now and its still working

vaping supposedly targeted toward smoker like me
i was almost 7 years smoking and after tried multiple method, vaping was the best
not only saving alot of money because in my country mod or pod is cheap but i can run more than 10km
You should do a video on joints or blunts
After being addicted for four years I quit last year before starting nursing school everyone can stop itâs about distracting yourself and knowing your bettering your future health for the better. Good luck everyone!
Thankfully I at least quit buying nicotine products almost 2 years ago now and plan on keeping it that way. Now I only smoke weed and hemp products like thc-o pretty lit stuff
That's awesome! Good for you
Down here in Texas in the rgv you can get thc carts for 20 bucks even in school
In Portugal the most recent problem is heated tobacco
i grew up being told to never smoke ciggarettes because the majority of my family did. in my early adult years i started drinking to cope, then moved to weed, and when i couldnt afford weed i started smoking. ended up quitting smoking and started vaping after i met my bf
(i should definitely quit and i have tried)
vaping actually recently got banned in here in australia (last week) and you need a prescription from a doctor now to get one
Crazy! Had no idea
Sadly itâs not true in most states
Man I live in the US and thankfully really no one vapes at my school. i go to a private school so thatâs probably got something to do with it but jesus Iâm glad i donât have to deal with that
Some parts in australia its elligal to sell or buy vales that have nicotine in them. But there is still a big ediction , apparently its the flavor and taste that people get edited to, much like candy.
I started smoking cigs when I was 16, switched to vaping at 18-19. Iâm 22 now and actively working to quit all together but unfortunately, youâre right about the high nicotine count making it difficult. Iâve relapsed quite a few times. Something about it just keeps drawing me back in. It really is a vicious cycle.
the scientific consensus is that vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking.
So congrats on quitting smoking, that is no small feat.
As for vaping, try separating your daily activities in non-vaping and vaping. For example : the car, a non vaping space or walking the dog and non vaping moment. Little by little add more to the non vaping list, until every moment is on there.
Be patient with yourself, there may be some cheat days, but don't let that discourage you.
In the UK, vaping is a real problem. In my school where there is around 200 people in my year, I would say around a 100-130 people vape it's awful. There was a real increase after elfbars, eluxes and Lost Marys became popular
How many mods do you see?
Great vid
You did an EXCELLENT job with this video! đ
Thank you!!
I can clearly remember seeing E cigs on the news when they first came out like 2006 and they were doing tests in the Toronto Eaton Center letting cigarette smokers take samples. They were crap back then and it took years for them to get better.. I can remember the first good vape i got costed me about $200 for the entire kit and it was a massive pain in the ass to use. The second one was about $150 and the same story.. I just kept smoking cigarettes about a pack a day untill i got a vuse and i used that with cigarettes'. The salt nic was much better and the engineering had come very far. Once the big tobacco companies started investing heavily in e cigs the quality started to get better and the competitors started releasing more compact and efficient devices that were more convenient and user friendly. I now do not smoke cigs but i still mix rolling batch with weed to help it burn better and hit smoother. I never thought i would quit smoking so E Cigs are good in my book for getting me off the cigarettes'. All the studies saying vaping is bad for you really pales in comparison to cigarettes' and from someone who has done both it's definitely much better for the people around you and less addictive because the smell doesn't seem to stick to everything like cigarettes' smoke does. The E Cig set out to kill the Cig and i think it's done a pretty good job thus far. When i was in highschool kids just smoked ciggarettes
Vaping saved my life. Smoked cigarettes by the dozen in high school, and could barely walk up the steps 12 years later (29 now) I vape daily and compete in competitive bodybuilding.
Vaping is for adults to get off cigarettes not for kids to play with. Parents need to do a better job watching their kids these days.
Glad to hear they helped you get off smoking, thank you for sharing!
When did you start vaping ?
Though, if I'm gonna be honest, the flavors are fucking weird, I saw one that was Blue Raspberry Lemonade! And mint ribena, for some reason. The flavors and colourful design get the kid's attention
Also you should try Chantix to quit nicotine for good
