Ukraine “Recovers” Lost Ground, Russia Gains In Donetsk | NATO Wants To Down Putin’s Missiles

  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for upgraded defense systems to counter Russian guided bomb attacks, which he described as Russia's primary tool in its offensive. Zelensky highlighted progress in electronic warfare, drones, and missile programs but stressed the necessity for improved systems and tactics to protect Ukrainian positions, cities, and communities from these attacks.
The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that its Yug Battlegroup had liberated Andreyevka in Donetsk and inflicted significant damage on Ukraine’s 57th Mechanised Brigade. Additionally, Russia's Battlegroup Sever advanced in the Kharkiv region, repelling two Ukrainian counterattacks. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces in the northern Kharkiv sector regained lost ground and captured Russian prisoners of war, despite ongoing fierce battles in Vovchansk.
Russian airstrikes on Kharkiv killed seven people on May 23, adding to the toll in a city under constant bombardment since the war began in February 2022. Close combat and firefights along the Vovcha River resulted in fluctuating territorial control.
Ukraine initiated a parole scheme for convicts willing to join the military, with over 3,000 prisoners expressing interest, aiming to bolster its ranks amid ongoing hostilities.
The US is providing Ukraine with equipment and training to handle potential nuclear emergencies, as reported by NNSA Administrator Jill Hruby. This includes ensuring the safe operation of nuclear power plants and enhancing Ukraine's emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
British Defence Minister Grant Shapps accused China of providing or preparing to provide lethal aid to Russia, citing a significant increase in China-Russia trade. China denied these claims, calling them baseless. A US official expressed concerns about potential Chinese lethal assistance but noted no evidence so far.
In response to former UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s comments supporting Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory using British weapons, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned of possible retaliatory strikes on British military targets.
Poland is evaluating the legal and technical feasibility of using its air defense systems to intercept Russian missiles over Ukraine, though there are no plans to deploy these systems outside Poland. Germany’s efforts to enhance Ukraine’s air defenses face challenges, despite commitments and calls for international support.

China and Russia are partners so wake up and stop telling China what to do. If the west doesn't like what China is doing then the simplest and most expedient way of dealing it is to stop importing Chinese goods. But if you are dependent on Chinese goods, then you are in deep shit or in another words, they have you by the balls. Accusations are just bull shits. Actions are louder then words. If you cannot stop the imports because you are not price competitive, then introduce high tariffs on Chinese imports to equalize their price to European goods. QED.

Why was the USA so successful during the Cold War?
It implemented the Marshall Plan to economically strengthen its partners in Europe.
The USA was the largest economy and opened its market to the products of its allies.
The USA offered its allies a security umbrella with nuclear deterrence through NATO.
As a result, America managed to push back the influence of the Soviet Union on Europe and ultimately win the Cold War.
The alliance between Western Europe and the USA is proving difficult today.
For example, Germany follows a mercantilist economic model and is therefore dependent on cheap energy and large growth markets.
Russia and China can provide both of these for Western Europe like no other country.
The USA, on the other hand, is becoming increasingly less important as an economic partner.
And since the collapse of the Soviet Union, there is no serious military threat from Russia to Western Europe.
Nevertheless, tens of thousands of American soldiers are still stationed in hundreds of US military bases and US nuclear weapons are stationed on German soil.
If you look at the situation objectively from the US perspective, America is protecting Europe from the countries with which it has close trade relations.
Europe's core interest, however, is to further expand its economic relations with the USA's biggest competitors.
Don't be blinded by the politicians' rhetoric.
Feelings, shared history, values, culture and traditions play no role at all in whether alliances really work.
What matters is whether the interests coincide.
And it turns out that the interests of Europe and the USA can no longer be reconciled today and this partnership will soon end.

Nobody is “forcing” any country to become part of NATO, quite the opposite. Many countries apply. But they need to comply with extensive democratic rules and regulations requiring stopping corruption and the naughty habits formed in Soviet occupation. They have to be voted in. Rule of Law is important to NATO, whereas lawlessness is common in ex-Soviet satellite countries, and habits of bribery. Russia wants to force its bad habits on the rest of the world by annexing countries by force. This is known as IMPERIALISM or hegemony.
BRICS countries have been sold a message of propaganda so that russia can take BRICS men to use as meat for their endless wars to conquer more territory for the imperialistic dreams of ruzzia. Military slavery unto death.

Baerbock is self-promoting again. That is her sole aim in life.
The Russian spokeswoman gave a good analysis of Cameron's reasons for "permitting" UK weapons to be used across the Russian border contrary to original NATO-agreed 'red lines'. It was grossly irresponsible of him and a man of honor would have resigned or recanted. He has done neither -- but knows that his political career will end on July 4th. He is not an MP and the legality of Sunak making him a life peer and Foreign Secretary in a single session is in doubt. Because of this Cameron should step aside and Sunak should take over the vital post because he has no actual authority as PM having asked the king to dissolve Parliament ready for the election.
Further, a PM without a people's mandate was probably in error of law in the Cameron matter.
Shapps accuses China and Russia of trading lethal weapons after having declared a different position in the past. This would be similar to Cameron's change of UK arms use by Kiev.
Shapps, however, noted general trade figures between PRC and Russia and did NOT give proof to the people. This is a major ground for an MP and Min of Defence acting against the interests of the British people if he does not trust them to judge the "proofs" he omitted.
As the UK is not in a state of war with either country he should have given the alleged proofs openly, not hide behind secrecy laws.
He has betrayed his constituents and the people and must resign or be sacked by the Tory Party's top executives. Sunak is past the point of having the authority to sack Shapps.
We are seeing, in my country, party coming before the people and therefor the collapse of democracy. The King is limited in what he may do but COULD object to Cameron being in the House of Lords under the circumstances of his elevation by a PM without a mandate. There is precedent for a monarch to undo a 'promotion' and King Charles could eject Cameron, Shapps and Sunak from the Privy Council.

Perhaps Ukraine can modified their Neptune missiles to do air defense against glide bombs and other aerial targets .

Those who are criticizing west, just be mindful of what would happen if us f 22 raptors, f 35s, aircraft carriers, destroyers, long range missiles, drones, b2 bombers, choppers, tanks and all are given to Ukraine. Russia will be left devastated. Even with Ukraine they are using nuke threats and without it Russia is nothing

Russia is not afraid any longer. We've slow walked so much kit into ukraine that they know how to handle it and theres no one left to use it anyways.
Heck even if we did just open the floodgates you know long it would take to train them to use that stuff and how long to coordinate with other units? Years. Decades to do it right.
Ukraine is a lost cause in every sense of the word. Heck even if us troops tried to take action the outcome would be far from certain and the odds likely against us just from a distance and geography standpoint alone.
