Hard to believe that the Barber performances were not reviewed well- citing callas as too hammy, and a generic quality of the production truly sad- she should have sung more Rossini- and Donizetti rarities. I have dreams of her singing Roberto d. and lucrezia- imagine that era desso and vivi ingrato- the opera house would explode from the sheer quality of her coloratura
I sincerely doubt the musical value of Roberto Devereux as an opera... too much difficulty for not much of a musical product... not of the level of Bolena and Lucia
