It's even mentioned in the books that even though Jurgen is probably one of the most reckless drivers that the Imperial Guard has to offer, he's absolutely amazing at it. He could drift slide a salamander and do a perfect parallel parking between a space just an inch bigger than the salamander itself. In honestly, that's probably how he'd do it as well if Cain told him to. And Cain would have it no other way.

They decided it would be cheaper to pay him. FOREVER. Than it would be to keep changing his status from KIA to alive.
4:45 Also....this is exactly what the books are. His memoirs. Admitting his fraudulence. The reaction of the Inquisitors who read this: blacklist this instantly. Never admit anything. I mean, he still did the things we attribute to him, so keep his admitted cowardice a secret.

About Marneus Calgar being a piece of shit, remember how the Ultramarines are that OP in the series (as well as in canon)? Well, unless I'm wrong, this is because of Matt Ward, who was a writer at GW as well as a huge Ultramarines fanboy. In TTS, it seems that after (or during) the Tyranids attack on Macragge, Marneus made a deal with him to save the Ultramarines (or make sure they would never lose or something) which Marneus now regrets (it's hinted a few times in TTS that this is what happened).
If I'm correct, he was also responsible for the "Baby Carrier" and that event where the Grey Knights smeared their armor with Sisters of Battle blood before it was retconned.

I saw both your best and worst, and at no point did you do anything that would make me feel ashamed of you, you were human, after all."

Ok so the thing with Cain, is that even though he definitely based most of his decisions on his own survival, and dumb luck. He did genuinely also go out of his way to protect the soldiers under his command and his ability to relate with his soldiers and treat them nice gave his men a huge morale boost. He also was a pretty good fighter and tactician. A female Inquisitor (he was definitely banging) even went on to say that despite Cain thinking of himself as a fraud, he was a genuinely good soldier and leader. He just didn't really recognize that of himself. Also, with Marneus, this is because back when Matt Ward was with Game Workshop he made Marneus and the UltraMarines way too OP and never lose. It is nice to see what being a guardsmen looks like or how their days usually are such as being dinner for tyranids but it’s nice to see the guard being well guard, where they are laughed at for their incompetence or just human wave style of warfare which is kinda true. However the guard of put into modern terms would easily out do any modern military where a single vox com beed is capable of communicating to someone from over a thousand miles away vs radios, and not only that but the ability to jump or attach a com beed into a wider net just speaks volumes of just how capable they actually are and these don’t even use satellites these are no larger than an airpod and yet is able to link with a planetary wide coms system in which can be further boosted with either a vox relay or even with a vox back pack or even a tank and the guard flack armor is more capable than the best modern body armor we have today, and it’s only because things like say a necrom gauss flayer or high explosive anti tank rounds fired from a bolter exists would be like saying that a lv5 modern ballistic plate should be capable of stopping a tank round, and again the guard are capable of more complex tactics, and mostly suffer due to poor or out classed equipment whilst being made to mass produce armies of soldiers, whilst ensuring that everyone has enough of everything to survive and be able to perform their functions and when you factor in planetary revolutions or delays in logistics such as a agricultural world turning to chaos, then those forces meant to stop a tau invasion are then sent to deal with the problem all the while several worlds which were wholeheartedly reliant on said agri worlds foods, in turn causes mass starvation and mass rebellions causing a massive chain reaction and so you have to deal with said problems without causing or effecting a different problem all together.

Iirc M42 Calgar also thought himself a piece of shit after harboring thoughts of being left out by Papa G who started adventuring with Cato Sicarius since Calgar had to house sit while Indomnitus was going on.
The whole Horus/Luthor situation happened except Calgar mentally flagellated himself while also redoubling his efforts.

@@KhaosAdmiral I mean, in what sense is he lucky? He seems to wish for an uneventful career and staying out of danger, and that's specifically what he's denied, over and over and over, no matter how hard he tries. And whenever he has the obvious misfortune to be thrown into dangerous situations, he gets himself out of it not by luck, but by being competent. The one time I can point to when he was legitimately just lucky, was when Jurgen was assigned as his aide.

To explain why they're "Mood Kindred" Basically Ultra Marines are gifted with Horse shit luck because of the Orks always believing "Blue is da luckiest ones so wear blue for good luck!" And due to Ork logic (Think of it like Sword logic from Destiny) if enough Orks believe it, it'll be real. Whereas Cain is in the boat of having Horseshit luck because the Chaos Gods think it'd be fuckin funny to shove 40 Horseshoes up his ass at birth basically since, while he's a great warrior actually (dude took out Chaos Marines in a 2v1 and won) but dude had a habit of pulling the safe card when he could even when ordered to do the dangerous job, and it worked out in the end because of his caution. Hell Jurgen helps on that BS at times too since the dude is a BEAST of a sencond to Cain, being a badass behind the wheel, a badass in combat, and a badass guard to Cain if he doesn't want people to bug him.
