The lyrics of this music is so emotional because many countries in south america were under dictatorial regimes in the 70s.
Sosa's performance is even more impressive when you keep in mind she's not singing in Spanish. To the careful listener, Brazilian music of that time is a path to deeper levels of understanding about our country. Thank you for being such a serious listener. Yours is the work of love.

Esta cancion fue escrita por Fernando Brandt, poeta brasileño y musica de Milton Nascimento que aparecio en el album "Lo Borges. Club da esquinha en 1972. Mercedes Sosa lo graba en 1977 en un single como cara B, teniendo como cara A "O cio da terra" de Chico Buarque y Milton Nascimento. Este duo fue en 1982 en el programa Chico e Caetano, donde tambien cantaron "Volver a los 17" con Gal Costa, Chico Buarque y Caetano Veloso.
En ese mismo programa tambien canto "Galopa Murieta", letra del poeta Pablo Neruda y musica de Manuel Picon, chilenos ambos. Si pudieras reaccionar a esa actuacion, querido Andy, estariamos mas de uno agradecido

This is bringing back warm memories. My mom was a big Tropicalia fan. Back in the 80's and early 90's she and I went to pretty much every Tropicalia concert that came to South Florida. Nacimento, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, many more I'm sure. And she would be out there dancing in the aisle with all the Brazilians.

The album by Mercedes Sosa that I like the most is 'Misa Criolla'. Not fit for a reaction video, but a wonderful composition by the argentinean Ariel Ramirez. It's originally composed for tenors, but Sosa sings it with her soul. I think it was one of the first masses not written in Latin. It shows the power of the Latin American culture.
