Agreed. I wish the movie had given us just a few minutes more of environment scenes because the ones we got REALLY convey a sense of an apocalypse where *every single square foot* of ground has been fought over at some point during the fall of civilization.
What I like about this fight is it's more realistic than others I've seen. Not the actual fighting itself because not many people have that level of skill portrayed by Eli, but because 1.) they all attacked him at once instead of one at a time like in every other movie ever done and 2.) not everyone knew martial arts. Which is alot like life. If you get jumped by a bunch of people on the street they're probably all gonna attack at the same time, and they probably don't know martial arts.
The cool thing i appreciated about reacher was how it debunked the whole “attacking one at a time” cliche in movies. Yes, there should be a mix of different tactics to show realism but it shows that if they are not coordinated then they end up attacking each other.
good theory. the real reason y Eli backed into the tunnel was to get an advantage. if u saw the movie you know he was blind. he backs into the tunnel, their sounds and movements become amplified. makin it easier for Eli to work.....i like your reason as well
He was blind indeed, if you put attention to little detail through the entire movie you will notice that (I only remember the part where Solara entered to his room on the town). The fact that he could act with that normality was never explicited. However, the movie kinda induce the idea of having divine help, which is also shown in other parts of the movie, like his pistol with unlimited ammo, his good accuracy, the fact that Redrigde didn't shot him when he had him on sight, and the voice who told him to bring the book far to the west. But again, it is never explicit; it's like if the movie show it but never affirmed it nor denied it, which makes the movie more tasty in my opinion.
0:14 the sign above them reads 14:6 which is from revelation 14:6. 6 And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people.
*I saw it as Revelations* 14:16 I looked and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

14:6 written above the tunnel, the bible verse reading "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.". When Eli is threatened, he backs up into the tunnel, I would think it represents a sanctuary for him when combating his enemies.

It's really not hard to make biofuel for a small 2 stroke engine ex. alcohol. Will it run as good as if it had regular gas? maybe, It could run a lot bettet or a lot worse all depends in what you have to work with.
@Axion3812 .... If we were looking at it from a logical perspective, that might be the case. The idea behind his character is that he was GUIDED west by God, that he was suppposed to have been blind, and everything that he was able to do was because a "higher power" guided him.
@blair91234 Probably does. It also makes for a better scene in the fight, not to mention combat wise, it's a smart strategy. It'll be harder for them to see him... but also what you said.
I like to think that when he said alright you want to do it the hard way he knew his hand was gonna get chopped off and he too preferred doing things the hard way
Has anyone realised yet Eli's PRACTICAL reason for backing up into the tunnel? He's blind. Darkness would not be a disadvantage to him. It WOULD take away, or at least deter the sight of his opponents, though.
I always wondered how he did all he did when he was blind, i think either he could partially see.... or, he could feel the heat difference in the tunnel, knowing there was shade there, and the echo it made too. Both would help him in the fight if he was blind
