How to FORCE UPDATE your outdated Samsung Galaxy device - Smart Switch for PC

- Hey-hey. Is your phone not updating, when a newer one is already available? This may happen when your device won't connect to the update server (such as using a Snapdragon device outside its region). Thus, today I'll show you how to force update your Samsung Galaxy device via Samsung Smart Switch for PC.
Smart Switch for PC is a tool developed by Samsung, which can:
-update your device,
-back up and restore your data,
-recover your device when stuck in boot loop.

🧐 Steps:
1. Download and install Smart Switch for PC/Mac.
2. Launch Smart Switch for PC (it may ask to update or install the Samsung Mobile Driver immediately after launch).
3. Connect your Galaxy phone to your PC.
4. Click on "Download Smart Switch" (you may also install it manually from Google Play Store).
5. "A new software version is available." will show up (if not, you may use the other method: • How to Flash/Unbrick/U... ).
6. Click on "Update".
7. After reading the update changelog, click on "Continue".
8. Click on "All confirmed" twice.
9. The download process will start. Please don't disconnect your PC from th internet.
10. When the download is complete, your phone will reboot to Download Mode and the installation process will start. DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE OR TURN OFF YOUR PC!
11. When the installation is complete, your phone will turn on and finish the update process. Congrats!
12. I highly suggest these extra steps! Turn off your phone.
13. Boot into Recovery Mode by connecting to your PC and holding Volume Up + Power Button (+ Bixby Button). Also explained here: • How to boot into Recov...
14. Navigating with the Volume Buttons and selecting with the Power Button, go to "Wipe cache partition".
15. Select "Yes".
16. Select "Reboot system now".

Thanks it worked from updating my S10 plus to that horrible laggy Ui 3.0 to the Ui 3.1 which is a lot smoother now. I could not bare another month of that crappy 3.0. I wanted the 3.1 asap to see if the lag and bugs were fixed and yes it is. Only thing I hate is I still can't hide my pill shape front camera.

Was it a USA locked s20? Cause I have a USA locked(Verizon) s21 and I'm in Africa so it doesn't receive updates but when I connect to my pc and the smart switch app showed that they was an update so was wondering if it's safe to update and if my phone will work like before and I won't lose my data?

Thank you for making this video, I applied an update could be abit later than it was released... I made mistake of doing it away from my WiFi and maybe not enough battery but I was getting error message after message and no more network only WiFi internet access and SIM card errors, tried slot of the help pages with clearing caches and memory from apps including software apps, didn't help at all, this video is the one that did fix it for me with bonus of backing up my phone, thanks so much ♥️♥️♥️

I was having an error in me middle of the update when I do it on the phone, and with the smart switch desktop was stuck in "setting up the installation". The solution was going to preferences in the computer smart switch click on the tab of updates and activate "Download previously the update". happily, it solved a problem of 5 months of being unable to update my Galaxy S9+. Thank you for the video, the images allow me to see that it wasn't even downloading the update from Samsung. Cheers man!

Hi! I have a same problem. Is your device is a US model or it's chipset is a Snapdragon chip or CARRIER LOCKED?

I'd like to share my One UI 6.0 update experience on the S23 Ultra. It might help others in troubleshooting why their Android 14 update is missing.
Before the update was released, I kept changing CSCs (Country Specific Codes) in order to make my phone detect 6GHz WiFi networks. Suffice to say, it didn't work and I just gave up leaving the phone with the EUX (Europe) code set. The phone originally came with the XME (Malaysia) code set. Months went by but there was no Android 14 update available. As soon as I set the CSC back to the XME code, the update came through.

Hi, I'm stuck at software update for s21 ultra is in progress.... at 0 percent and is not making it to progress, even phone has not gone into settings mode, and cancel icon is faded as well, so what should I do?

This is amazing! Would this work for the Samsung Galaxy View2? The large tablet? Support was discontinued for this product but it's an amazing tablet so I don't have the heart to 'let it go'...
It should work for any Galaxy device.
If it doesn't show any updates, then there are just not any updates available for it. :(

The latest update for Galaxy Note8 is Android 9. Thus, you can't install it officially. Additionally, 5G is a hardware feature and can't be added by software updates (missing antennas inside the phone).
Unfortunately the update option was not avail to me, Ive been stuck on 11 for so long and it displays last update in june 2021 because it was from AT & T

I gave this a try, but no update appeared. I have confirmed with Samsung and T-mobile, that my phone is past due for an update, and that one is available. It seems neither smart switch, nor my phone, can detect it. Might you have any other suggestions?

Don't worry about it! Just make sure you don't disconnect the cable or turn off your PC during the process.
Always back your data up, just in case!

I would suggest you try to do it via Odin (czcams.com/video/mq9qzGOh5oM/video.html).
Flash the model but add a "1" at the end (ex. SM-988U to SM-988U1) and use the CSC_ file and not HOME_CSC_. BACK UP your data because it will be wiped.

You can't flash another device's firmware, so it's not possible.
You can however flash custom unofficial firmware (lose warranty) to get the latest Android version, which in my opinion is not worth it.

I have s10 plus and it does not work for me. I need updates that was released in april, 2023 and Samsung stopped supporting s10 plus on March 2023. Is there any other alternatives?

I followed all the steps but It didn't immediately update I had to go to settings and manually activate the update although it only received update till Android 8.1 is there any way I can update to latest Android or atleast Android 10?

Good guide but one of the first steps I can't do. Which is downloading the smart switch onto my order device. I think it needs the update to be able to connect to internet again

Is your device Carrier Locked or chipped by Snapdragon (it means US model).

mine says software is up to date but its not true, im still on android 9 on my s10e which is supposed to be updated to android 12 now, don´t know what else to try, thought this solution would work.

Windows 11 isn't stable yet though. I am using the "Alpha" version which is very buggy. I suggest you install it on a secondary PC!
I've been updating the phone for 4 hours and it's stuck on "checking for downloaded update files" and it doesn't do anything. Does something happen if I press volume down/off and cancel it?
You should try switching the USB port or the cable, or even restart your PC. That's usually the problem.

It depends on the cable, PC, network etc. But it's normal for it to take very long.
So i tried this on my Note 10 plus SM-N975U that is still running android 10 in 2023. I've read somewhere about using Odin...but that sounds risky as heck for an untech savy person such as myself.

Just get the right rom for your mobile model and with the knowledge about flashing you can flash your phone
