Tower of London's Beefeaters unveil new uniform with King's cypher

- Ahead of the coronation of King Charles, the Tower of London's Yeoman Warders - better known as the 'Beefeaters' - have revealed a change to their iconic uniform.
Since the Yeoman Body was created in 1485 by King Henry VII, their uniforms have continued to evolve through the centuries.
The Yeoman Warders will now wear new uniforms emblazoned with 'CIIIR', the cypher of King Charles III, ahead of his coronation on 6 May.

Someone asked the question what R stands for. E-R is Elizabeth Regina (latin Queen), C-R is Charles Rex (latin King)

I was at the Tower of London in March for my birthday 🎂 and it was great to see the late Queen Elizabeths II cypher as well as the stunning Crown Jewels before King Charles’s coronation and it was such an honor to meet the Chef Yeoman Warder Pete in his final year at the Tower before he retires later this year hope he enjoys his new life after retirement and hope to visit the Tower of London again soon keep up the good work and God Save the King 👑👍❤️

In the U.K. There is a tv series on channel 5, called behind the scenes of the tower of London. Really informative programme, hope they are making some more.
It actually looks good on them, I prefer it to E II R.
Seeing this is one more reminder that Her Late Majesty has left this world.

I see "CR" under a crown on their uniform, and all I can think of is "Crown Royal". I think that'll get me through the coronation!
The Crown has much more sophisticated branding advisers now.
The new cypher is very attractive, and a break from the somewhat stodgy form for E2R.

What does the 'R' stand for? I was told years ago that it stands for Royal, but I have only been told that once in my 38 years. Cheers
Rex - latin for King. QE2 had ER, that R stood for Regina, latin for queen.

Plus we have always had republicans and anti-monarchists; to the point that we once had 3 civil wars claiming over 20,000 lives to get rid of the Monarchy - but it only took 11 years for the people to want the Monarchy back!! There will be a great turnout on Saturday and I for one am looking forward to the Coronation of King Charles.
